It just never ceases to amaze me. I go thru this with Jets fans too. They just stick to the same old "woah is me" "Jets Suck!" stuff and don't pay attention to the moves the team made to improve the team. The media all said the Jets were 32nd in the league. At some point you have to actually evaluate talent and make a call based on what that talent should be able to do. that doesn't mean you'll be right, but don't base it on long held assumptions and act like some genius if the team fails. Any team can just fail to come together, but if you aren't basing your appraisal on the actual talent and how it should come together and just going with the cliche about a team, then it's not valid.

Last year MOST of the media were wrong about the Knicks and IMO they failed to really evaluate the talent and just marked the Knicks down based on long held assumptions. Phil Jackson says the team is a mess and so it must be true. Media thinks the Nets were gonna be better last year and so it must be true. Until the Knicks get the #2 seed. We could all be wrong and the team could simply misfire, but that wouldn't be based on the talent and makeup of the roster. That would just be an epic fluke that sometimes happens to teams. There's no logical reason to expect failure based on the facts.

I like the Bargnani move, but championship... I don't see it. One can hope, though. :)

I personally love the moves the Knicks made, I'M JUST NOT SO SURE ABOUT THE GUY CONTROLLING MINUTES AND THE ROTATIONS WHEN WE PLAY WHEN THE GAMES REALLY COUNTS. Last yr his stubbornness against Indiana proved that to me.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

I don't want to be a downer but I think we can't win with Melo.

You can't expect other fans to feel the same way you do. If you expect the Knicks to win a ring and you are ok with being let down again then more power to you. Not me. Not this time

Exactly. Nixluva always overrates the Knicks and thinks they'll win 5 to 10 more games than they do. That's fine - that's your right, Nix. But the puzzling part is that you get so astonished when others here don't do the same.

top 8 defense instead of a fool's gold 16th rank.
top 10 assist rank instead of a fool's gold 29th rank.
top 10 rebounding rate instead of a fool's gold 17th rank.

these rankings would give me a sense of optimism. even 2 out of 3 would.

but sadly the knick priorities may well lie elsewhere.

Cool. Are you watching games this year or citing box scores when you post?

what makes you think i didn't watch the games? i always admit when i haven't watched so when i use stats and ranking they are used to illuminate what i have witnessed with my own eyes: mediocre defense, absolutely lousy ball sharing, substandard rebounding.

i will watch the first 25 games and see if the knicks are playing better ball. i am pessimistic but as i always say i would love to be proven wrong. if they confirm my pessimism i won't be watching as much as before but will probably focus more on the foolish drama/farce off the court.

i think that is reasonable, don't you?

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

knicks are in the wnba now?

in the postseason, solid to great defensive teams (i.e. chi, indy, mia and probably nj) will be able to exploit bargnani's defense in a 7 game series. so whatever effect he will have offensively, will probably be nullified and then some on the defensive end. you will have the defense scrambling all over the place to cover for him. it is why novak got 0 pt last year. you just can't have defensive liabilities on the court for the playoffs.

woodson will probably use chandler + melo + artest alot more in the postseason with bargs mins getting lower as the series continues.

chi + mia have players the knicks just can not contain at all. and once you remove bargs and amare, then the frontcourt attack is nullified as well. nj just has crazy depth and savvy - don't see how the knicks get past them in a 7 game series either. they might be able to get past indy b/c they don't have a true takeover the game offensive player on the squad.

In the end, it is better to be realistic and reasonable when assessing your own team, I know that is hard to do for some fans, especially knick fans.. but if you honestly look around at the rest of the east, I am not sure how we can talk any kind of championship.... I really don't like setting myself up for let downs...

Everyone thinks the evidence supports their views. Otherwise, they wouldn't post those views. Maybe you just need to learn to accept diversity of opinions.

Well, in the 2 years we've had him, you're the first to express such a view, therefore you must me wrong.

I think the Knicks path to a finals victory involves more luck than anything. There are two teams that, if healthy, I don't think we can beat. They are both in the east. They are the Heat and the Bulls. I don't think our odds are good against either. I think we can beat Indy, though it would be difficult. But Indy isn't in that upper class, IMHO. So, in my mind, our path to the finals, and ultimately a championship, is both the Heat and Bulls getting eliminated by other teams before the ECF. Not a likely scenario, but I think that's our one chance.

YOU Act as if the knicks have had great teams over the past 13 years... saying we probably have the best team since then isn't saying much.. I don't buy fools gold... I look at this short term regular season success if you call it that as a brief pitstop on our way to mediocrity over the next few years... I am looking down the road because honestly I don't think this team is close to a championship at all...we are not built to beat miami, we are at a mismatch vs teams like the bulls and the pacers... we did nothing to address that and please don't bring up that soft euro trash bargnani... he is not a solution here.. sorry I don't share this same blind enthusiasm...

try putting yourself in the shoes of another fan from another team, and ask yourself.. Would I look at the knicks as a contender. I guarantee you would say no....

top 8 defense instead of a fool's gold 16th rank.
top 10 assist rank instead of a fool's gold 29th rank.
top 10 rebounding rate instead of a fool's gold 17th rank.

these rankings would give me a sense of optimism. even 2 out of 3 would.

but sadly the knick priorities may well lie elsewhere.

Yea dk, we are lacking in key areas.. I guess some fans are ok with just blindly rooting for a team.. that is fine.. Root for your team however you see fit, but don't judge others who tend to look at things objectively..

I asked this question and never got an answer.. had any other team, the nets, pacers, bulls, ect made the moves we made to get bargnani and beno, would knicks fans feel that those teams were not only better, but championship contenders? I know the honest answer to that one.
