I was one of his biggest defenders, but I'm willing to admit when I was wrong about someone changing their stripes. You keep using the word "hate", that's fanboy talk. You called it "hate" when I said JR should get no more than a three year deal, if he got any deal at all. Guess Grunwald is a hater too.
As far as what he told a bunch of kids, this is the 21st century, news spreads like wildfire. Someone who is on twitter as much as JR should know that by now. You make it sound like it was the only answer he could have given them.
This isn't about the morality of smoking weed, hell no. Its about knowing that you let your team down in a big way and taking the appropriate precautions to avoid letting the team down again. Its about being available to play. They may win those 5 games without JR, they might not, it could make a difference in the seeding, or it won't. JR shouldn't have put the team in this position to begin with.
I read somewhere that most NBA ballers smoke in the offseason, I don't have any problem with that. Almost all of them of them take precautions to avoid testing positive. Whatever he did or didn't do to avoid a positive result, JR came up short, again.
I believe you're a knowledgeable poster and fan, but you have this soft spot for JR that I just can't fathom. Calling me a "hater" is way over the top. Not after I spent most of last season defending JR. I'm Po'd at him, but I don't hate him. The only player I ever felt anything close to hating was Quentin Richardson and even after he came back last season I posted that I would be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm not the most knowledgeable poster on this board, but I do believe when it comes to being fair, I'm near the top of the list. If you believe that getting busted for a banned substance in addition to all the other crap he's pulled is no big deal, then yes you are defending him. I told you why I thought it was a big deal. I said its no big deal to me, not the NBA obviously. Just because I didn't feel the need to pile on doesn't mean I find it acceptable for an NBA player. Look back at how many times I said that this wasn't about weed, it was about stupidly getting busted for it. I've done my share of partying myself, believe me. I don't care what JR got busted for, that's not the point. It was about getting busted for anything at all and for the third time. How many players in this league actually get caught, let alone three times?
JR got 5 games. 5 games without JR could mean nothing or it could be just enough to lose us a spot in the seeding, JR shouldn't have put the team in this position to begin with. I don't expect you to speak for the NBA. When you respond that personally you don't believe getting busted is a big deal, you're trying to minimize what I clearly saw as being a big deal, considering everything else that has happened. That's the definition of coming to someone's defense. Just like you're defending JR going to a public event and guaranteeing a title as a representative of the Knicks.
Why promise kids something you have a small chance of delivering? I don't care if JR was speaking to a group of garden gnomes, he should have known that word was going to get out. All this is going to do is give other teams bulletin board material. The East is competitive as it is. Games have been won and lost over talk like this. JR should have learned from the last time he guaranteed something, which is another reason why I didn't like it.
I don't care if you only meant the charity event initially. You glossed over JR getting busted (for the third time) and went back to how I'm a "hater", again. Excuse me for not appreciating that. Now you're trying to make that the central issue and not what JR did. I spent all of the regular season cheering him on and telling posters that JR has changed (I was wrong), but I guess that doesn't count in your book. There are posters who have "hated" on JR from start to finish, even when he was winning games. Call them "haters" if you want. If all you want to talk to me about is how I'm a hater and question my intelligence, don't blame me for responding in kind.
