I guess MDA gonna give him a look. Shawne did great with him. Hope he can stick.

Good call, might be the only team who can keep Beasley in check at this point in his career. Talk about failing upward.

Wow....go to sleep, high and depressed. Wake up on a championship team. Go back to Miami and enjoy more drugs and women. The life of an NBA player!

If Grunny really wants to put an awesome couple of finishing touches on this roster -- (1) see if we can grab Beasley -- if his head's really up Miami's ass, don't bother though; (2) cut Tyler (just can't justify taking a project big man who suffered an injury like this on the 15 man this close to gametime---plus, I don't see the Karl Malone-type upside everyone else seems to see) and Leslie -- That would leave us with 3 open spots:

(1) Hassan Whiteside -- Gets a slight nod over Earl Barron for me, who I still like for us btw (and would've got it over a healthy Jeremy Tyler). I see Theo Ratliff worst case/Serge Ibaka best case. Even if he's a slightly taller Ratliff in his prime, the rim protection alone makes him a worthwhile addition as a backup C. I see more here with this guy though -- he may need a little work but eventually he could supply shot-blocking, rebounding, mid range jump-shooting and some post play--all at a high level. All these elements are there -- he just needs refinement and development...Take the chance on this amount of upside -- see if he's another Ibaka....Even if we got him and assigned him to Erie for 10-15 games or so at 35 mins a night just to get him ready. And even if we got him and threw him right in the mix with the big club, trial by fire---with 15 mins a night backing up Chandler and Bargnani 5/4, I think he'd have an impact. I don't see our guards getting beat off the dribble too much; Melo and Bargnani--that's a different story. Let's face it: neither guy is known for their defense (Melo may have an adjustment period in the beginning if he transitions back to SF too). It'd be nice to have a deluxe shot-blocker back there as a 2nd line of defense. I think Whiteside is definitely NBA ready in that respect. Hey man, 6 fouls some shot-blocking & rebounding -- if that's all we got in a limited capacity this year, it'll help. Remember Steven Hunter on MDA's Phoenix teams several years back? That guy produced and had a positive impact when D'Antoni used him. I think Whiteside's more skilled than Hunter..

(2) Toure Murry - dude's 6'5", can play both guard spots and he can play both ends of the floor. I love the loyalty he showed us over Miami. Part of me really wants to reward that. Bottom line though -- he's skilled and looks good enough for the NBA.

(3) Beasley - only if we can get him. I'm not begging this dude. I'd be OK adding Whiteside (or Barron--immediate 2nd choice) and Murry and then calling it a day...Sell him on getting mins. at both forward spots, on NYC and on being part of a team that's good enough to challenge and possibly unseat the King and his Heat (a team that discarded him at one point for nothing -- remind him of that). If we can't get him, I'd take a chance on 6'8" DeQuan Jones. This late bloomer showed a lot of progress and potential last year for the Magic. I think his upside is higher and current game/skill level is higher than CJ Leslie's. And he's just as good if not a better athlete than CJ, so it's not even like Leslie, for all his athleticism, has an edge there. Jones is an AMAZING athlete...Excellent upside and he proved last year that he can handle some NBA rotation mins right now. Much like Murry, Jones is relatively unknown yet very capable, showing damn good potential on both ends of the floor...A couple of years down the road, a Toure Murry/DeQuan Jones backcourt gets me thinking, man. Has me drooling a little actually.

Whiteside (or Barron), Murry and Beasley (or DeQuan Jones). A solid big, more quality backcourt insurance and a little more quality depth at SF. Plus, some more youthful building blocks for the not-too-distant future when we eventually have to turn this roster over.. That would be amazing.

Totally agree with the cuts, use of roster spots, and filling the positions Fine has but I have some slightly different targets
Cut CJ Leslie, cut Jeremy Tyler, and 1 extra roster spot, so we have 3 total roster spots to use

1- I have no problem with Whiteside, but my personal opinions would be

Haddadi - legit 7 footer with great instincts on DEFENSE to stop penetration and putting a body on C's as well

Darko Milicic - very under rated player with legit size and all round skills, has good post presence to go with his passing ability, and is a solid shot blocker/rebounder when given minutes

Earl Barron
Marcus Cousins/Whiteside

Jared Jeffries (non guaranteed contract) I think he was great and was a big difference when healthy as a mobile PF/C that is very smart and under rated as a help defender

I know Jeffries isn't a legit Center compared to the other players above, but he has chemistry with some of the players we have already, and if healthy he could be a great FIT and familiar with our coaches, system, and players
Like Felton, I don't think Jeffries wanted to leave NY, and he plays his best as a Knick, appreciating all the hustle, dirty work, intangibles, and DEF that he brings
He also has a decent handle, good picks *BOTH ON AND OFF THE BALL*, and makes good cuts

I think we all know we cannot rely on Tyson Chandler and could use an upgrade at PF/C
While Jeffries does not have the ability to defend the BIG CENTER's like Hibbert, Lopez, Bynum, etc, he does improve our overall TEAM DEFENSE with his mobility, length, and IQ
We miss his ability to sacrifice his body for charges and helping our team DEFENSE while usually recovering in time for his own man, and putting a body on them
Jeffries was big part of our DEFENSE in Tyson's first year, while he has the ability to play PF limited minutes with Chandler and play backup to him as well

Tyler has good upside but we need bodies that can contribute and cannot wait for him to develop, with this spot, we cannot give a guaranteed contract so we can change our minds for other available talents if it doesn't work well

I have mixed feelings about who to target here but I like Haddiddi, Darko, Earl Barron, since they have the legit size that we likely would need to compete but JJ's would also improve our TEAM DEFENSE, especially with the weak links of AB, STAT, Melo at PF

2- I agree with Murry, I think he could help our DEF out and has good potential, his PG play is decent, much better than Iman's ability, while he has the ability to defend 2 positions at PG/SG, and would be great with Iman Shumpert, especially with JR possibly out for awhile with injuries/suspensions
Felton/Udrih/Pablo simply are not very good defenders and they can mentor Murry to being a better PG
NixLuver made great points about how Murry has to learn to defend quicker guards but utilizing his length and not cheating as much

I still like ex Laker, Darrius Morris to play the same role, and ex Maverick, Roddy Beaubbois *he has shown he can shoot the 3pter and has great length for DEFENSE*

3- I really like James Johnson, think he has great size/length/decent athleticism to be a SF/PF as a strong rotation player
He still is very young and his only weakness is his suspect shooting in which Hopla could really help improve
If he can hit the baseline 3pt, he would be a huge upgrade to Ronnie Brewer's role
He actually has the size and ability to defend the Lebron's, Durant, Paul George, Rudy Gay, etc

at 6-9, 260pds, with GREAT length and decent athleticism, he would be an ideal rotation player, Artest simply is too slow to defend these young guns, while our other players like Iman, JR, are SG's that are too small to defend the SF's with the size/strength SF/PF's with G skills and speed/quickness

CJ Leslie is a project that would need at least another year or 2 to fill our his body while Johnson still has upside and has legit NBA experience
Beasley is a very talented scorer like Melo and JR Smith, but lacks IQ, heart, DEF, and are scorers that don't know how to play off the ball with consistency
But there is only 1 basketball and we already have Melo and JR Smith that have the green light to take bad shots which we should try to limit and more TEAM emphasis that Johnson can bring

I think these moves would greatly improve our overall TEAM DEFENSE, practice squad to push each other, and are great FIT's to Woodson's defensive schemes

my take...

- folks were looking to fill the 13th, 14th and 15th roster spots on an already deep team. Im NOT gonna go crazy thinking about who to pick up because these roster spots typically wont and SHOULDNT play. lol. i understand the need to think about them due to our injury problems but in my opinion those spots are left for scrubs

- but ill entertain the idea because im bored:...here goes...

1. whiteside = he has had this "potential" label for yrs. dude seems lazy and uninterested. most decent players can put up big numbers in china...that doesnt impress me. he has all the tools, im more worried about his effort

2. its sad about tyler cuz i wouldve given him the SAME description as whiteside. but in the SL he proved to play with FIRE and effort. id keep him only cuz ive always liked his potential and i think hell finally put it together

3. i have no problems resigning earl (again with the assumption that hell ONLY play in garbage time)..hes a solid offensive big man and not as bad on def like ppl say...infact i DONT know why he has never stuck onto one team

4. im just not a fan of haddaddi..looks like a big stiff

5. Murry was solid vs scrubs in a summer league. sure he plays exciting def...but i dont know how to categorize him offenisvely...he cant shoot but hes a natural shooting guard...id stick him in the minors to learn

6. im a BIG fan of darius morris...a defender and PG...with NBA experience

7. im also a fan of JJ (jefffries)...he LOVES nyk and is willing to do the dirty work

8. im not sure why drew gooden hasnt gotten a call...6-10 250 vet who could play some back up mins

9. was james johnson the guy who hit that shot vs us in sacramento? #52? the versatile ex bull, ex raptor..sure if rake him

10. i like gary forbes from BK...ex melo teammate in denver who can play D...either him or dante jones

11. has CJ been cut yet?!?!?

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

It'll be interesting to see peoples coverage of this- when we got Bargs, all the media insisted on basing their opinion of him on last season, his worst season by far, his lack of defense, rebounding. Well Beasley had a far worse year, and is just as bad, in those areas too. However, I expect the coverage to be universally positive!

The roles are different.

Bargnani became the Knicks third highest paid player and will be expected to be a key contributor on a team that has title hopes.

Beasley is a non guarantee bench player for a team that has history of making good teammates out of trouble playets like Eddy Curry and Birdman and is the reigning back to back champ.

Totally different situations as they should be.

plus beasley is a better player, younger and not injury prone.

if he plays well, hell be there for another 4 yrs...they can get rid of bosh (redundant players) and use that money for another free agent

If Beasley can't get his stuff together now, probably won't ever happen. Might have smoked his way to a ring. Talk about lucky.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

The rich just got richer. I betcha Lebron, D-Wade and those guys keep this guy in line and he plays well for them...I know you guys think Beasley's a nutjob--and he is to a degree. Maybe not a nutjob -- just a lazy, can't take a thing in his life seriously kind of dude... Bottom line though is that he's young and very talented...Would've be a nice get for us on a minimum deal...Oh well, time to turn the page.

Stay the course -- load up on a few decent bigs for training camp. Earl Barron, Hassan Whiteside, see if Marcus Cousin's available (love this dude's game), maybe Haddadi...I also really like quite of few PFs that are still out there: DJ White, Tyrus Thomas (for the money, talking a vet min. deal here possibly), Kevin Jones (not the biggest dude in the world--6'8" 255?--but he's a good rebounder who can shoot)..

With JR down indefinitely (they're saying 'no timetable' which has me a little concerned and he's suspended the first 5 games once he is ready), I say look at another high octane bench scorer like Chris Douglas-Roberts...Signing up Toure Murry for training camp is a nice move -- if he continues to plays well, I'd think real hard about keeping him. I'd also like us to really consider the upside 6'8" swingman DeQuan Jones has. Dude passes the eye test with flying colors and I think he's only gonna get better and better..

Not only does he have leaders like battier, riley, wade & lebron but he has lebron! A point guard masquerading as a mutant power forward among mere mortals. Bron will set him up with easy passes

I expect no less than 13ppg/6rebs off the bench. More importantly it makes bosh completely expendable...since he too is a 6-10 lefty who shoots jumpers. If he plays well bosh will leave (to dallas i predict) and the heat will hv more money to spend on other players

Again this is why this signing concerns me. Hes a good player just immature. If this works out he will be good for the next 6 yrs.

in regards to other free agents, id like to pick up a big but NO MORE projects. this is a win NOW team. therefore, i like barron, tyrus thomas for defense or even someone like drew gooden...big boys in the pain

ive always been a fan of jones since his WVU days. plus i think hes from long island. (not a fan of CDR..no athletic ability). dequan jones is underated. wasnt he a SG/SF wing on dallas/orlando?

Interesting point on Bosh, Ned. Maybe they can finally get to this kid and build him up to the point where he does make Bosh expendable. He certainly has the talent to go far, just have to get his mind right and get him to a point where he finally takes his craft & career seriously.

I like Kevin Jones too and remember him well from West Virginia. He kind of reminds me of Anthony Mason a little bit -- he's slightly undersized at 6'7"-6'8" yet has a great nose for the ball and is generally effective despite giving up some height. Mason's kinda unique I guess, maybe not the best comparison...Ryan Gomes/Antawn Jamison might be a better comparison -- that 6'8" 250-ish PF that can crash the glass and also stretch the defense with a very capable outside J. There's definitely a spot for this guy somewhere in the NBA..

I think there's enough of a veteran presence on this ball club where we can take on another youngster or 2 (or 3). If we ever finalized the back end of the roster with, say, Hassan Whiteside, Toure Murry and DeQuan Jones, I wouldn't be upset at all. Don't remember Jones on Dallas (you're thinking of Dominique Jones, another decent young prospect--a 6'5" SG/PG kinda in the Toure Murry mold) but he did play for Orlando last year and played well for them at times. Sky's the limit with this kid..A strong/sturdy 6'8" 220+ with athleticism thru the roof!! And surprisingly for a relatively unknown player, he shows potent budding skills in all areas -- defense, shooting mechanics, handle, etc...I'd love for us to take a chance with him. I think it would bear fruit eventually in a big way...

Disagree on CDR btw -- yeah he may not be the most athletic wing around (I wouldn't exactly call him unathletic though), yet he's crafty as hell and just knows how to score the ball. We could use his scoring possibly, down JR for the first 10 games or so. Might be a good training camp target that has a chance to stick given the JR Smith injury..

no no...kevin jones is more athletic than mase...more of a slasher with muscles...can hit the occasional outside shot

not a CDR fan..i hear what youre saying but i thought he was overated form jump

ive always liked gary forbes and dahntay jones...athletic wings who can play def...u can never have enough of those

Yeah, I left it in for discussion but realized right away the Mason/Kevin Jones comparison wasn't that close. Each guy's size is similar--6'7"/6'8"-ish, 250+ lbs--but that's about it. Mase was unique -- the brute strength, the tight handle, the passing ability, the point-forward ability the facilitate, get the ball up quick, etc. Jones is more of a stretch 4 on offense -- something closer to Ryan Gomes -- slightly undersized PF with a passable jumper with range, something that could become a true weapon eventually for him with some more court time, repetition & polish. Jones might be better than Gomes eventually -- Gomes may not have this guy's nose for the ball. After a fairly promising start to his career, Gomes has really fizzled out recently in a big way...Jones is just starting out, trying to latch on somewhere...He just needs a chance....I think there's room for Kevin Jones in the NBA. The Cavs obviously see something in him -- I believe he's had a couple of stints with them before falling victim to the numbers game.

I like Forbes and Jones and see what you're saying (along with Carlos Delfino and Ron Artest, I betcha Melo would admit that Jones plays him about as tough as any defender in the league so he deserves some credit there), but to me, neither of those guys are the natural scorer CDR is and that's a HUGE part of this game, man -- putting the ball in the hole. Raw scoring ability far and away favors CDR over these 2 while the difference in athletic ability is fairly negligible (to me, CDR is very crafty and swift with the ball going to the basket and far from some unathletic plodder. Very difficult to guard one on one). CDR is still relatively young too -- about 2 yrs younger than Forbes and a good 7 years younger than Jones...Remember, with JR out, even with scoring imports like Bargs, Beno, Artest to a degree, we're still down a major scoring piece from our backcourt--the 2nd leading scorer on the team last yr not to mention 6th MOtY. Out of the 3 SGs being discussed here, CDR comes the closest to replacing JR Smith's offensive game/scoring prowess. Not too many CDR fans around these parts so as usual, I wouldn't expect anyone to agree. Just my humble opinion...Down JR Smith for an unknown period of time (injury plus the 5 game drug suspension), we'd be lucky to have a guy like CDR around to fill in at that position. Ultimately there may not be room for the guy but if he's willing I'd bring Roberts in for training camp for a closer look. Maybe he makes more sense than Murry and turns out to be a keeper, who knows. Bottom line is we do our diligence and cover JR's spot with a quality player that can score the ball. That's what I like about the possibility of bringing CDR in at this time..

youre right, CDR can definitely score...very herky jerky player who can put it in the whole. with that ability how come he cant find a job in the NBA? ill pass

gomes is a bust. started out ok but has fizzled. I think jones needs a shot to shine.

im not a fan of murry like everyone else is. sure he can PLAY defense but he and the rest of those knicks got lit up by guards. also i feel like hes a SG learning to play PG. learn that in the DLeague...since this is a WIN NOW team, id rather have NBA proven talent

wish list (for 3 last spots)
- a big man = drew gooden, whiteside, sean williams, e. barron
