I can't hate on JR..It's very easy now but without him we were a 4 or 5 seed...He was absolutely huge for us last year...We were getting production on par of a 10 mil player for the price of a 2.9 mil guy...Melo and only Melo all the time will be a complete disaster ...JR stepped up big time for us...People wanted him to be the man..Tyson and Amare is paid to be the man...Hope the dude settles for 5 mil per...

you don't get it... he is a regular-season fool's gold player who is not a winner in the playoffs. hence, achieving the second seed was also a mirage. if some other team doesn't want to win in the playoffs that's on them.

it's about winning in the playoffs dude.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Another guy we should be keeping an eye on late in this draft (or after if he goes undrafted): Tyler Brown from Illinois State.

He's somewhere in the 6'2" to 6'4" range, which is a little small for an NBA 2G (esp. if he really is only 6'2" with shoes) but if you're skilled enough/athletic enough, you can get away with it where it's a non-issue pretty much. There are (have been) plenty of good NBA 2Gs that are south of 6'5". How big was John Starks really? He was listed at 6'5" but he wasn't no 6'5". MJ, Reggie -- these guys towered over him it seemed. Yet he was one of the better SGs we've had going back 40 years or so...This dude Brown's a dead-eye shooter that can get his shot off against anyone with a wide variety of very effective jump back/jab step/dribble back moves (think the way JR Smith frees himself with that one dribble-back move between his legs before shooting -- only this kid looks to have an infinitely more reliable J), good elevation and flawless-looking shot mechanics. Shows a great handle too -- he can get anywhere he needs to get to on the court at will and he looks very athletic. Plus, this guy's also an above-the-rim player who's looking to throw dunks down off blow-bys, alley oops, etc. Another guy that was great at Portsmouth -- he hit 13 3s in his 3 games there, averaging 19.7 ppg. I wouldn't mind seeing this kid in for Summer League. I can't believe he's not more highly thought of. Looks very talented. A guy to consider if JR Smith isn't retained. His game actually resembles JR's a good deal -- maybe an inch or 2 smaller but looks to be a much more reliable shooter...Man would I love to have this guy on the roster as an extra piece next year over Chris Smith.

jr is the guy you hate to have on your team, but you have to have him now because you can't replace him, the knicks can't replace him, how can they replace him? they need his scoring way too much, it's a drug

Respectfully, I just don't see it like that at all. The Knicks are approaching this like this guy's some perennial all-star that's a must keep at all costs...He's not. We don't need JR to be some ball hog low % freelancing #2 option again next year. Let this guy walk and come up with a roster where the offensive is spread out more among many capable players -- let Melo get his 20-25 ppg and then I'd like to see everyone else pick up the slack -- hopefully Amar'e won't break down and regains some of his scoring prowess (not holding my breathe here though, to be honest), Shump steps up and assumes more of the scoring load and then we add some nice young pieces -- hopefully a PG that can contribute some scoring AND a PF that can score a little too (among other things) in this draft...Then continue adding more young pieces that can score -- a natural 5 man that can score some; maybe another PF that can contribute in the scoring column (at least a guy that can rebound and body up); a guy like Craig Brackins that has a chance to be a real force in this league scoring the ball -- then there are more 3s, 2s and points out there that can score. I mean if I can come up with these alternatives, I can only hope Knick mgmt. can too. Instead they're talking about Quincy Douby and bringing back extra-E Williams (who will thumb his nose up at us if someone else out there offers him 50 cents more). I mean Quincy Douby??? Huh? Sorry but there are much, much better alternatives out there if you ask me. Has me shaking my head a little. I don't get it. They really need to look around more and keep digging.

yes he had a great regular season no doubt about it. However when we really neded him in the playoffs he didnt deliver mostly because of his stupid suspension and the fact that he went our partying and never recovered. Im sorry but knick fans have a right to be upset with JR. Dont get me wrong Tyson didnt play well either but he was coming off a seriosu injury and he wasnt out getting drunk during a playoff run

he improved his ability to penetrate, which could break down the opponents defense but the coach did not give him the players/scorers to spread out the floor and PULL HIBBERT out of the paint
I cannot fault him for that, he tried to get in the paint but with Hibbert there and the strong DEF of 1v1 players of Pacer's he reverted back to his step back jumper and 1v1 moves
I felt he should have started or Copeland, while either or could have played the 6th man role in scoring
Blame Woody for lack of preparation, misuse of lineups and rotations

his focus, facilitating, ability to rebound, DEF, came up short in the play offs but for the money we can pay him and the inability to turn him in to an asset makes a no brainer because of our talent that we need to compete

JR opts out...
