Dantoni lasted 4 years and resigned. SAS had a vet quote where he said they stopped doing what the coach said and played the way they felt had to to win. Dantoni lasted almost 2 more seasons and left only because he resigned with pay. Woodson isn't going anywhere. The guy has accomplished stuff that hasn't happened in ny in over a decade.

You can say all you want about MDA, but he's actually coached his team to the WCF's TWICE!!! He did it even when he didn't have a single player over 6'9" going up against bigger teams. Woody has talented team and his opportunity to step up as a coach. It's not over yet. Woody can still get his team to the ECF's which was the potential for this team. So far he hasn't done a good job and hasn't even approached the level that MDA has already achieved in the NBA, so before you continue to disrespect MDA as a coach think about that in comparison to how Woody has done in the playoffs.

I haven't totally closed the book on Woody. I don't like what he's been doing but he still has a chance to step up. Woody has to re-inspire this team and get them mentally right for tomorrow. It's not impossible that he finds a way to get thru to his players, but he's done some damage IMO. He's gonna have to fix some upset players and some mentally broken players. He's got one more shot to get the job done.

D'Antoni was a mess in NY and did not win. However despite this his job wasn't in jeopardy. He resigned with pay after four years of not winning. My response was to the suggestion that Woodson's job is in jeopardy because he is down 3-1 in the coference semis after winning the Atlantic and getting to 54 wins in his first full season. I don't think his job is in jeopardy and I don't think Grunwald/Dolan has a quick hook. The Knicks haven't won at a rate like this year and gotten to where they are in over a decade. Coaches (at least the last guy) can lose at an incredible rate and keep their job in NY. Why would Woodson be in jeopardy of losing his position/

Woody wasn't gonna win much with a franchise committed to tearing it down as MDA had at the start. You can keep writing with this revisionist history that somehow this team was trying to build a winner all 4 years with MDA but you know that's a damn lie. This is where you lose credibility. You know damn well that MDA has over 60 players in a 3 year period which has NEVER been done before and no coach could win under those kinds of circumstances.

Woody has been a really good regular season coach. He's also been totally lost in the playoffs. For this franchise the Playoffs really matter. You can't just minimize how important that is. With a good roster just about any coach can win games as long as he's not being sabotaged. What separates the great coaches is how they do in the playoffs against top competition.

one coach has coached a team to two conference finals and another coach has been annihilated in the second round the two times he has actually made it there, with half the games being blowouts.

one has a proven track record of genuine success that is head and shoulders better than the other.

one has no ties to the organization and the other is the beneficiary of bald-faced cronyism.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Woody DOES have to show that he can help a team push beyond the 2nd rd. If you think that isn't important then you deserve a coach that hasn't shown he's more than a regular season coach. If the Knicks don't win this series I have no desire to see Woody come back again. He's shown next to nothing as a playoff coach. He's still got a chance to change that and I'm hoping and praying he does.

In yr 1 and 2 of MDA's stint there was no effort by management to put together a winning team. The whole thing was about getting cap space.

In yr 3 MDA finally was given something to work with and even before the trade and with all the drama that clearly had an effect on the players, the team did not have a losing record. After the trade the struggles to pull it together and still the team did not have a losing record. If Billups was healthy the entire time the record might have been even better. If the Melo trade had not happened who knows how the team would've played, no longer fearing being traded. In any event it wasn't a losing season.

In yr 4 we all know that both STAT and Melo did not have regular off season training due to surgery. Then there was the shortened Training camp and preseason. Then the fact that we didn't have a capable PG to run the team. Melo struggled to adapt to a new role, wasn't in great shape and then all the other stuff went down with Linsanity and the team getting back to .500. The real issue was the passive aggressive fight between Melo and MDA. It turns out that MDA was RIGHT. Melo did need to play within a team concept where there was ball and player movement rather than tons of ISO's for Melo. Woody benefited from the typical bump in effort after a coaching change and Melo's usual HOT APRILS. Problem is that ISO MELO only works in the regular season.

Woody still hasn't proven that he's a TOP NBA coach who can guide his team to post season success. I'm hoping that changes starting tomorrow.

Totally Lost?

nixluva - Woody has been a really good regular season coach. He's also been totally lost in the playoffs.

Did you say totally lost?

nix - Despite your feigned innocence, your Defend D'Antoni agenda has been transparent for months.

I like Mike woods, and it might be a little premature to think they will fire him, but he sure is not helping himself.

Were one of the only teams in the playoffs with a predominately healthy roster, and the last time we had that (jan/feb) woodson was looking lost as well.

Our strong start to the season, and strong ending coincided with the injuries to some key players.

knicks1248 - you really think Tyson Chandler is playing at full capacity?

You really think I Man Shumpert is 100 per cent after suffering that awkward James Brown split in game 3?

Carmelo is banged up but cannot afford a single negative word. he knows what time it is.

The only thing we need to get healthy is our shot making and rebounding.

We win tonight and the pressure is on Indiana to close out at home.

I would say every GM he had failed him. Give him a legit No. 2 and decent point guard. He will win at least one championship.

No way.
Iverson was not even a legit #2? What about Billups?
Go get Melo a legit #1, change his role on offense, and get him to focus on non-scoring areas of the game, then we'd be in a great position.

Double teaming Hibbert at all times is a good move. Woody did this last game but it backfired. Why? Because they did it at the wrong time. You can't double him as soon as he gets the ball. He is a very good passer right now and is hitting the open man....but he is doing this when he has a chance to survey the field. I would suggest double him when he puts the ball on the floor. This would put him in a tougher situation where he needs to locate and pass to the open man while moving.

Hopefully he follows this same formula for game 6. More Prigs, less Kidd. More Cope, less Stat.

He totally redeemed his brain farting of game 4 tonight. Perhaps a little heavy on Ray's minutes, but gotta win now. I imagine next game he gets Stoudemire and Pablo a couple more minutes here and there

One is still coaching in the second round of the playoffs. And one got completely embarrassed after making the playoffs by virtue of a complete collapse by another team despite having what 3 all star caliber players and one of the best PGs in NBA history. I'm sorry but 5 years of recent and consistent miserable failure kinda defines who one of these coaches is.

Excuses are as common as flies, but is what has been accomplished in his time? Even in bad circumstances there are usually some bright spots.
