He can have a similar effect on Defense but, looking at his physical mannerisms, I don't see any Gary Payton there.

Physical mannerisms?? HUH?

what, you've never heard the term before? What about body language? They way someone walks, stands, they way they carry themselves i.e.: Physical mannerisms.

Thats a good way to compare Shump and the Glove(green font rolling my eyes)

you seem to have misread what I wrote because I said he seems more like Spree. You obviously have no familiarity with the term which isn't rare and is a real term but, I guess it depends on the circles one travels.

So Shump hasta, walk, stand and carry himself like payton to play the game like payton?? BIZARRO WORLD LOL YOUR KIDDING RIGHT?

DAMN MAN, chill out. All I said was I thought his body language was more like Spree. What is your problem, its called an opinion.

OK WHATEVER LOL

now your just trolling me. Get a life

He did the same to me. I put him on ignore. Never had used the feature before. Came in handy although I can still see his posts when he is quoted but better than nothing

So now Im a troll? Thats rich.Im the one that brought up comparing Shump to Payton.

Don't have a problem with him disagreeing. Problem is with his troll post with CAPS on individuals like Durzo and me. That is why I have him on ignore. Kinda stuff that will get you banned if caught. Unnecessary and adds nothing to the discuss but trouble

Shump reminds me of Larry Hughes on offense. I remember Hughes was plugged in as a point guard early in his career and he faltered. He moved to shooting guard, but still had to learn when to shoot, drive etc. By the time he got to the Wizards, Hughes became a quality two-guard. I think Shump works harder and will have a shorter learning curve, but I see the similarities. Defensivley, Shump reminds of a young Gary Payton/Derek Harper. I love the fact that opposing guards dread facing him. I also like the fact that he's able to get steals without gambling.

I would bet that Shump looks at a lot of film of players and I bet he looks how the great defenders,ie clyde, payton etc took the ball away from guards just by tipping it and going after it hard.

Hughes is another good one but he was a volume scorer. A volume shooter who shot too much, a chucker. Shump plays within the offensive confines of Melo and Amare and his jumpshot will only get better. Shump also has a higher ceiling as a stronger defender

True and I hope that playing Kidd and Prigs only accelerates his basketball IQ.

The reaction time of an offensive guard having the ball tipped away from him is too slow compared to the reaction time of a defensive guard tipping the ball away and going after that loose ball. Not to mention the feeling the offensive guard gets once that ball is taken away from him.Its all in the head.IMHO there are very few guards,ex westbrook, kobe, rose that wont let a steal by the defensive guard play into their minds.

I think Shumpert is a new breed of defender, he hasn't grown up with the arm bar and hand checking. He is physical with being physical.
