Not excusing Melo for losing his cool and the game, but apparently Kevin Garnett said Lala tastes like Honeynut Cheerios

1. There is nothing that KG can say that justifies losing your professional conduct. Its a game. Its not like KG personally knows how La La tastes. If he did, then its personal.

2. Even if KG is talking about Derek Fischers kid who is a very sick child, you don't lose it. You deal with it off the court via the proper channel. If KG does it off the court, then its a different story. KG says it because of the game. To get in your head. Its because of the game. Melo been in the league 8 years and knows KG is will do it. The thing he said to Charlie V. was eventually made public and KG looked bad because of it. Maybe he don't care. Who cares what a dumbass says anyway.

3. Im kind of glad players still do this instead of this fraternal nice thing all the time. Im old school and players should not like each other. I have heard MJ say some real nasty stuff to team mates and opponents. I think MJ who was friends with Mugsy bogues about ruined him VERBALLY. Its the game. Im glad players want to win.

4. Nalod been married 26 years and my wife is attractive and gets hit on from time to time over the years. Maybe if my wife cheated on me or my marriage made me feel insecure I'd feel different.

5. "Honey nut cheereos"? Well thats better than "Capt' crunch" especially with them "Crunch berries" but im not sure what to make of it. Is "honey nut cheereos' really that good or that bad? How can the Commish really address this without laughing? Its pretty damn funny if you ask me. Childish. Even more so the way Melo reacted. Please tell me there is more to it?

6. You in the mecca, you being cheered "MVP--MVP--MVP", your praised by Bernard King, Your tutored with manhood guidence by woodson, and the big bad Celtics are in town and you freaking lose it by "honey nut chereos"?

"Its a honey of an oat, its honey nut cheereos".

CLASSIC post nalod.... good stuff..

Again, kg can cross the line, but we know it is all about the game, I doubt on the street kg would say such things nor would he care how la la taste...

poise is crucial..

losing it tends to give the opponent an advantage..

+1000 it's so easy to say what Melo could've or should've done until you look at it this way. I personally think Charlie Villanueva should've beat the crap out of KG aafter the Cancer patient comment. Enough is enough!!!

ok, if you feel that way fine.. then what melo should have done is wait for kg to get the ball, let him go to the hoop and take his head off and play it off as if you were going for the ball... Message sent!!

Dolan (or whatever the hell your name is),

I am so sick of this apologist crap for other teams on the UK fan site. I swear to the almighty if the situation had been reversed you & a few others wouldve been screaming about how Bush league Melo was & how he needs to be a better man to be the leader of a championship team. Why is then that all of KG's dirty tactics seem to gt overlooked because of the fact that he much like lebron conspired to join forces with two other fading superstars & won, one measly chip. the dude is a A-Hole plain & simple & no amout of Celtic lore can change that!!! Try Jock Riding for your own team once in your miserable history on this board or go elsewhere ((Hey no offense dude it's just gamesmanship...I'm just trying to win this debate))

haha jeez man you are serious.. LOL

If you are going to call someone a cancer patient or make a reference to having an affair with someones wife to get in someones head during the game, then you are taking a very unimportant thing way too serious. I agree that Melo went too far after the game, but I cannot blame him either. Family comes first. I hope Lala is proud.

Yeah, KG's got problems. Still Melo shouldn't have fallen for the trap. If a colleague said that to me, I'd just chuckle and move on.

Are you married Bonn? If a colleague said something about your wife, you can honestly say you would move on? Would your wife even approve of that?

Not married but I have a gf whom I trust. I'm pretty sure she'd be prouder of me if I just quietly laughed at the guy and then did my work productively than if I lost my cool and tried to confront him before his bus ride. Honestly waiting outside to confront someone because you just can't get over how mean their comment makes me think of 6th or 7th graders. Both Melo and KG come off looking like they have the maturity of 7th graders.

Do you feel what KG allegedly said as "professional conduct?"

We don't know exactly what was said and what wasn't. We don't know how far he went or even if the cheerios comment was a part of it. Also, we don't know that Melo went to see him to fight. Maybe he was there to tell him off or get something off his chest. Whatever the case may be, I agree that Melo should have handled the situation better. But you're letting KG off the hook here. There really are no rules to hold KG accountable in this situation but it doesn't mean that he should be given a pass to make abusive personal comments about people's families. People call it gamesmanship, but what about sportsmanship?

Question: is there a rule that says a player can not meet a player from an opposing team at the bus? Honest question here.

the distinction between sportsmanship and gamesmanship is a good one, i'll grant you that. in fact in basketball there's room for both... but there is no mandate for both.

i was reminded last night that garnett was trained by mchale. most posters don't remember the wars of the 80s. no love lost between rivals. red auerbach did not coach his players to be good sportsmen, and neither did red holzman. chuck daly did not coach his players to practice sportsmanship. they had a policy to mercilessly butcher jordan and they did. and you can bet doc rivers, who played during that era, has little interest in his players making nice with the opponent.

melo wants to be comfortable-- he wears body armor to stay comfy-- so the policy is to make him uncomfortable.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

It's pretty disgusting to me that all day I've heard sports pundits 'praising' KG's verbally abusive, vile behavior. "It worked!" "He took Melo out of the game!"

So I guess he should continue making nasty, horrible comments about other players - calling them cancer patients, insulting their dead parents, insulting their wives. And everybody in the league should just shut up and take it. Because THEY will be the ones criticized and KG will be slapped on his punk-ass back.

As for me, I will cheer on the day someone knocks that guy on his ass. Maybe then he'll finally STFU.

It's amazing, I know youre a Melo hater but c'mon dude some sh!t deserves a beatdown for real (just like Kam tried to do to that old man at the pick up game) Also, I like how you have set up a "zero sum" scenario in regards to Melo, where theres no way for him to "win". If he had passively accepted KG's taunts and taken the high road he wouldve been branded a wimp & thus not worthy of being the go to guy on a contending team. He's in exactly the same position that Pierce (team cancer) & LeBron (cant win the big one) was before they won. Becoming a champion and apparently washes away all warts

Bonn, when someone says something to me that I think is maybe a little funny or mean, I pummel him on the spot, I do not go to his bus stop and wait for the bus to come,

In all honesty, Melo comes out of this looking like a punk while Garnett, KG is what you know he is, a punk, and Melo let himself get punked by KG...if Melo had such a problem, should've layed him out on the court, not wait to go to talk to him later, there is no takling, there is only punching

Pretty much. Trash talk me all day on the court. Talk about my game, how much I suck, and its all good. But if you cross the line and imply that your sleeping with my wife, in the heat of the moment while playing in an adrenaline filled game, all bets are off.

I might hold a press-conference the next day, apologizing for my antics, but there are certain lines you do not cross.

I'm sorry, but that's hilarious. I hate KG as a person, what he did to Duncan is ****ing vile, but I'll be giggling about this for a while.

Yes, it's always amusing when grown men make vile comments about other men's wives. That's always a knee-snapper.

But, pardon me. I'm still relatively new here. I thought the people who posted here actually liked the team's best player who has been playing brilliantly all season. My bad. A complete douchebag on a division rival mocking his wife is reason for chuckling. Yeah.
