He started the season with the flu. I just don't think its realistic for the Knicks to sweep up all the individual awards. It just doesn't happen

melo has said himself that he doesnt wnat to score 40 all the time anymore. This year he has had no choice with amare out but once amare is back we will ahve more balance plus we could rest melo some minutes

Exactly he is carrying the offensive load like he did last year when Amare went down with the bad back but he knows(he said admitted it before the season started on media day) that in order for the Knicks to win it all he has to do a better job of getting Amare good shots

I agree. I think some are focusing on individual awards and not the biggest prize which is a title. I dont think Melo cares about MVP he wants to win a title.

I believe everyone cares more about a title, but even having players considered for the top individual awards are great as well. Trust me, I rather make it to the finals or even ECF over Melo winning the Reg Season MVP 1000/1000 times

No it doesn't, but each player is worthy of being in the conversation or even Top 5. I was saying Tyson being DPOY is more realistic than Jr and Melo just off of reputation alone.

Like I've stated time and time again Carmelo Anthony is nothing short of a scoring phenom. A pure scoring machine is what Melo has always been. The greatest scorer I've ever seen as a Knick and I loved Ewing for all his worth, but not even Ewing could score at Melo's clip/rate. Melo can score from anywhere on the court. He takes over games. Dominates opposing defenses for 4 quarters strong and may go down as the greatest scorer in Knicks franchise history.

The man is on pace to rank top 5 all time in NBA scoring. Some negative critics who've never had an understanding of overall NBA history may consider Melo a "chucker" but when in reality, he's one of the greatest scorers of all-time. Now that he's improved his defense since arriving to New York ala where his heart's at; he's without question one of the greatest players in the world. Top 5 without question.

Kobe Bryant after his 10th NBA seasons put up a total of 16,886 points. Carmelo Anthony has put up 16,453 points (and hasn't even completed his 10th NBA season yet). Currently in his 10th season as of right now.

If Melo continues his average of 27.7 points per game during our final 61 regular season games, that'll be another 1,689 points on top of his already 16,453 points scored.

Carmelo Anthony could be at 18,142 points after his 10th season of play when compared to Kobe's 16,886 after 10 NBA seasons. Melo also has a higher career field goal percentage (.457%) when compared to Kobe Bryant's (.454%).

I loved Ewing for all his worth but Melo is quickly becoming my all-time favorite Knick. Led a New York school in Syracuse to their only National Championship. Has always dreamed (dating back to his childhood days) of playing inside of Madison Square Garden for our Knicks. New York bloodline. Forced his way out of Denver in order to play for the Mecca of New York. Passed up on his home borough of Brooklyn in order to lead our Knicks into potential/future greatness. But yet, we have a couple of Knick fans who aren't full blown Melo supporters? The man's heart and soul is here with our Knicks franchise. If Melo ever leads us to an NBA World Championship? He'll own New York City once and for all. Forever too.

clearly it doesnt.
Like I said in prior posts, Ewing was my favorite Knick and MElo's NBA accomplishments dont sniff Ewing's jock. Back when the FAN was just getting popular and it was the only sports talk on the radio I remember tons of callers used to argue Ewing's MVP status. For me it was just win. Clearly some here would prefer to cling to other things. Shockingly the forum was once a good discussion place for hoops before it became ultimateMelo.com

Knicks off the best start like ever, so of course their best player is going to be in the MVP discussion. Right now its probably KD, Lebron, CP3 then Duncan and Melo about a tie for 4th. Is it close? Always is, but after 80 games Melo will be an afterthought.

Billups first year in Denver Melo mad adjustments, had his best year, played "the right way" and Nuggets when to WCF. He had better stats that year and still finished like 6th.

He's a scorer. Enjoy his scoring ;)

Ewing is irrelevant to this discussion. I don't see how Ewing's play in the 90's is some bar or qualifier to Melo's winning an MVP in 2013. I have not heard anyone that actually votes for the award say "well Ewing never won the award therefore MELO is banned from winning the award so long as he wears a Knick jersey!!!!!"

he is relevent because he was the last Knick to be in the MVP conversation. His accomplishments both personal (awards/honors) and team (Ws/Ls, playoffs) far exceed what Melo has ever done. So there's the bar and yes its relevent.

For Melo to be in the discussion he need to go out and guard and lock down the opposition's best scoring wing. If he's doing that while scoring 25ppg he will be an MVP candidate.

Knicks and Melo have had a great start. Seasons, games and titles arent won in the first qtr., and Melo has NEVER been a legit or serious MVP candidate in the past (Ewing was) so its not like this is the year he gets over the hump. Lets win some playoff games first!

Ewing's career achievements have no bearing on whether Melo will win an MVP in 2013. You people continue to come up with creative reasons as to why Melo can't possibly win. Please show me where one person that actually has a vote has stated Melo can't possibly win MVP because Ewing has never won MVP.

Ewing also never WON NBA DPOY but somehow Tyson managed to win one.

Melo winning NBA MVP has no bearing on whether he is a better or worse player than EWING. MELO is not required to surpass EWING's career in order to win MVP. These imaginary hurdles you people continue to come up with are outlandish.

MVP goes to the best player on one of the top 2 or 4 teams.

The Knicks presently have the best record in the East and 3rd best record in the league. Melo is playing outlandishly well. Melo, according to Stephen A. Smith and Skip (people with votes) is the NBA MVP as of today!

I really thought Mike D'Antoni was a good coach and Melo was the problem. What has happened so far this season is the exact opposite. Melo has gone from being a public enemy for Knick fans to one of the best players of the season. I have no problem with people calling him MVP.

It would be awesome if a Knick won mvp. I'm sure everyone would love to see it. I'm personally not going to get involved in the chants 21 games in but if he is still in contention for MVP in March I will certainly pull for him.

People were screaming MVP for Amare that 1st 3 1/2 months, that chant went away as soon as melo got here...What you think is going to happen when amare get back..He only wins that award if his assist #s go up, and we win the east, cause his scoring his bound to go down.

No your wrong about that. The chants went away BEFORE the Melo trade. We went on a bit of a losing streak and that was the end of the chants. Guys just seem to want to blame Melo for everything. Melo is the reason for the current fiscal crisis :)

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Not to get off topic because this is one hell of a thread. An all-time great in Kobe Bryant making it known that Carmelo Anthony's his toughest NBA cover in the game today. But now you're straight up trolling. Nothing new either TKF. On RealGM no one asked you to support Gallo each and every chance you got while crapping all over Carmelo Anthony, but yet, you did it anyway. Now you've came over here to UltimateKnicks and have contined to do the same exact thing(s) here as you did over on RealGM as a mod; which is A.) Support Gallo to the fullest while B.) Crapping all over Carmelo Anthony each and every chance you get. You're becoming a flat out troll TKF. Your post above just goes to show your trollish behavior and/or ways (as a poster). You accuse others of bailting left and right but yet, you're the one who's taken your full blown hatred for Carmelo from RealGM over here to UltimateKnics. Look in the mirror before accusing others of "baiting".

tkf wrote:pretty much is.. think about it.. despite the knicks nice start, players of the month for november were.. lebron and Durant.. what a surprise.. huh? but hey, I heard carmelo was in the "conversation"

That is down right trolling and baiting at the same time. I don't wanna get banned due to arguing and/or going back and forth with a poster such as yourself. My love for talking about our Knicks is too strong for that. I should've learned my lession from past experience at the other place. But you're extreme with it. What makes it (even more) pathetic is how you put the word conversation is quotes as if Melo's not in the conversation for league MVP. NBA.Com has Melo on the rise for MVP contension at number two overall behind only Kevin Durant. Melo's on the rise (green arrow going up) at number two overall while LeBron James is on the decline (red arrow going down) at number three overall. Zach Randolph and Kobe Bryant round out the top 5.

Also, it's no longer "Novemeber". We're now in December. December 13th to be exact. And Carmelo Anthony is ranked 2nd behind only Kevin Durant in regards to the MVP race. But yet, you've stated as a way of trolling and baiting (I bit the bait too) that Melo's not even in the "conversation".

God forbid I mention Gallo sucking during the NBA gameday thread (3/13 shooting with only 9 points against an awful Pistons team) your panties go into bunches while you called me out as "baiting". The difference? I was man enough to respect Andrew and leave it at that. Stated 'carry on' and haven't returned to that thread ever since. Now, my question for you is... What are you doing in this thread? Why are you here? What's your point? Is it to tell us how "wrong we really are" in regards to Melo as you did for years on end over on RealGM? Some things never change...

the screaming of troll is a bit tired, if you want trolling then you should be addressing the trolling comment I made my response to... get off it bro.. kobe has an opinion, as do I and every single person on this board... You have already been told to stop baiting by andrew, this complaining of yours is just anothter attempt to bait..

and honestly realgm and gallo has nothing to do with this.. again, you seem to have a hard time staying on topic..

I agree. I just don't see how he wins the MVP with averages of 23/6/4. I don't expect him to average more than 4 assists at most. Felton is the PG and is averaging only 6.8

Melo's career high is 3.8assists. He is averaging 2.1 this year. Even if he gets his FG% up to 48% I still don't see how he wins MVP once Amare returns.

Maybe if Amare re-injures himself but we don't want that heading into the playoffs just so Melo gets his MVP award

Amar'e will take shots from JR, Rasheed, Kurt and Felton. Melo's scoring may drop a point or two at most but his efficiency may go up.

I agree. I just don't see how he wins the MVP with averages of 23/6/4. I don't expect him to average more than 4 assists at most. Felton is the PG and is averaging only 6.8

We will see how things play out. As of today, it can be argued that Melo is the front-runner. A month or two or three from now that may not be the case.
