I think they are a lot less of a threat without Ray Allen. I don't think Jason Terry fills that void with the same efficiency from 3PT, nor will he spread the floor. I expect them to be competitors. Maybe even finish higher than the Knicks in the Atlantic Division, but they are a spectre of the championship squads they were. AND their defense has suffered without Tom Thibodeau.

it is a new team that was put together the same way that led to 12 years of losing... why should anyone not be a bit skeptical..

Yeah Melo was no better ranked a player than Marbury when we acquired him. Nixluva has been on on the usual must spin positivity because if I don't don't do it then who will schtik. He's also waiting for his payday of it finally paying off and being right after misjudging this team being wrong year after year after year after year after year after year. This is the other "FAN BORROWING TIME" formula.

While we put together a mix of offense and defense, we still didn't put together a correct mix of offense and defense. We still STARGFUDGED, we still are on a "LOVERS & FRIENDS"...."EARN STRIPES" kick, we still throw away assets like they don't matter, we still bloat payroll, and a lot of the same corny stuff is going on too....

For example....

Remember the off-season Curry hired a personal trainer out of Detroit to lose weight? I believe he was consulting with WWW on what it would take to turn his career around. Fans were hopping on this big time. They said Curry would be "MOTIVATED". He needed to play well to get "ANOTHER PAYDAY". He's going to get down to his CHICAGO PLAYING WEIGHT and be the NEXT BEST BIG TO D-12. Sound familiar folks? Nixluva was big upping this crap to no end. Guess what, it's the same with Amar'e spending 2weeks with Hakeem trying to re-invent himself. Listen if all it took was 2 weeks to work with Hakeem to be special ummmmmmm this would be a Big Man's game and not a Little Man's game. No Amar'e is not a Curry level of player(Curry's best year with us was 19.5ppg and 7.5reb lest we forget) but the point, players don't get motivated after a decade in the league and morph into something they've never been. This isn't like some near career ending injury a great player had to face and adjust forcing a change in his game. No these are players who have been either stubborn/lazy/too prideful in their approach and style of play only to have failed results.....now are searching for feeble options, hoping they work.

I'm not saying Amar'e completely wasted his time working out with Hakeem but Amar'e should have been working out with someone like Charles Oakley instead for several weeks not Hakeem. There was nothing Hakeem was showing him that was revolutionary, not one thing. OTOH seeing a player like Javele McGee work with Hakeem who is 24yrs old 5th year in the league this makes sense, because of the raw skills he possesses. He needs more of a solid base of skills to work with.

Here's another example....

Remember Marbury wouldn't welcome Duhon to the team the same way Melo wasn't feeling a return of Lin? We have the same kind of wild/selfish/jerkish/needy/must be coddled athletes. Looking below at all these players we have now and the others when at their best as Knicks

The high personality ego mistaken, misunderstood, bad guys, or their own brand not necessarily more talented

For example

Melo=Marbury(flat out jerks... Starbury shoes and Melo 5s.....family and friends getting gigs and whatnot)
Smith=Nate(immature wannabes)
Amar'e=Curry(good dudes but distracted when they aren't the focal point)
Sheed=No Sharrington(volatile, too passionate)

Yes we do have good guys on this team just like we had a few yrs back and not necessarily more talented

For example

Chandler=Lee(play hard, play within themselves, good teammates)
Felton=Duhon(play hard, full of flaws, limited)
Shumpert=Jamal(very talented, good dudes likeable, coachable, helter skelter)
Pablo=Sergio(Nuff Said)
Ronnie Brewer=Effries(very good defense and a hella liability offensively)
Camby=Frye(solid bigs who balances the team in many different ways)
Novak=Sean Williams(dead eye shooters if open one just sips less lean)
Kurt Thomas=Malik Rose( )
James White=Jonathan Bender(one had better knees)
Chris Copeland=Bill Walker(DREADFUL)
Chris Smith=Anthony Roberson(why were they ever Knicks)
Jason Kidd=Lin(uuuuuhhhhh Nope Melo likes Kidd) Jason Kid=Toney Douglas(Nope because Toney Douglas had a stretch where he was being compared to Chauncy Billups) Jason Kidd=Chauncy Billups(yes if Toney Douglas was inaccurately assessed as Chauncy Billups) Jason Kidd=Steve Francis(Washed & Liquored Up.... we may have a winner here)

Notice what we don't have on this team? No Gallo/Chandler/Mozgov not 1 player adequately suits their persona or what they brought to this team. NOT ONE

Rondo is gonna be flat out nasty this year. It's the only missing part to his game shooting the rock at an All-Star level.

I've always enjoyed watching the way he plays the game.

Anyway he must have spent 2 weeks with Reggie, then another 2 weeks Dale Ellis, then another 2 weeks with Glen Rice, then another 2 weeks with Mark Price, then another 2 weeks with Peja because how could he get his form down on such a shot to improve it?

Boston was beating squads that were not built to win. This team is built to win and compete with anyone.

Hell even with a decimated team we competed with bean town. This team should make have their number and, make it a point to step on the mfing throats during every meeting.

can't you tell I hate Boston :)

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

GOOD GOOBLY GOO!!!!!! ROFL

CAN'T SAY I dissagree with anything here.. As I said, a lot of similarities of how things have always been done here... Every time it is a different player, but somewhat similar circumstances as the prior.

Notice what we don't have on this team? No Gallo/Chandler/Mozgov not 1 player adequately suits their persona or what they brought to this team. NOT ONE

You got that right.. but someone told me that novak and shumpert have replaced both guys.. I mean go figure... the thing with gallo and chandler is that they both brought different personalties to the team, but they both fit what we were doing. Gallo played with passion and flair and chandler had this quiet confidence about his game.. both were effective..

but hey, what can you do bro? what's done is done and it sucks, but it is done.. that is for sure...

Not buying Rondo, Terry and/or Lee as an upgrade for Allen. Allen played 46 out of 66 games. Allen shot 45.3% from 3. I do not think anyone on the Celts can spread the floor the way Allen did.

Allen missed 20gms according to the numbers you posted...Terry played 63 for the record. Considering how much we weigh injuries on this side of town uhmmmmmm Ray's games missed were huge wouldn't you say? If they acquired what could prove to be a more durable player I think it's reasonable to say Terry makes up a lot of what was missing in Ray, health being one of them.

Jason Terry shot 38% from 3pt range last year. This is a very good percentage. He shot slightly worse the year prior to, you know the year they won the Chip but he had a helluva series after Game 2 in the Finals. He doesn't have to shoot 40% or 46% to replace Ray. Here's what Terry can do better than Ray, get his own shot inside the arc, better off the dribble pull up midrange game, and better penetration game.

I'll agree with you on Rondo still have to see it to believe it, but he's shown a steady improvement in his play throughout his young career.

Not sure I agree with any aspect of your analysis. Its like you took every single current Knick player at their worst, every rumor as fact and poor logic to create terrible comparisons (try this one... Marbury drives a truck, Melo drives a truck --- Marbury is Melo?).

Amare is Curry cause they are "good guys" but distracted without the ball? I think the criticism on Amare is that he tries to do too much and the criticism on Eddy was that he tries to eat too much. C'mon. Amare working on his low block post moves isn't nearly as important as becoming a spot shooter from 15 feet, but Amare will be primary in the offense once Melo is off the floor. I see a guy that was working in the offseason to get better?

Camby = Frye? A seasoned vet who is rated the most efficient rebounder (given his limited minutes) is the same as an outside in player?

Copeland is Walker? I would have guessed that White is more like Walker...

Kidd = every other historical PG for the Knicks, even though he is a legit Hall of Famer that has taken a leadership role?

Kurt Thomas is Malik Rose? Cause they are both black? Malik never has a jump shot. Thomas does. Thomas is like 10 years older then any time that Malik played for us. Malik was an undersized bulldog who brought defensive prowess not not necessarily toughness.

Pablo = Sergio cause they both have Spanish names?

Felton = Duhon cause they both play PG?

Chandler = Lee cause they are both big? You do realize that Chandler won the Defensive Player of the Year, right? Avi Lee could not do that. Chandler also had the highest fg% in the league (limited shots though)

Shump = Crawford? Again, what? If there is any "Crawford" on this team, its more likely to be Smith, given both player's proclivity to take bad shots. AND since Smith got here, what trouble has he really gotten into?

James White = Jon Bender -- again, a SG who developed overseas is the same as a 6'10 player who tried to make a comeback with the Knicks?

Brewer = Jeffries cause they both play defense? Brewer is a perimeter defender that is playing here for minimum dollars. Jeffries signed for the full MLE.

How about these -- Novak = Gallo cause they both 6'10 and shoot 3s? Is that a fair comparison? I don't think so, but it follows the stupid logic. In any event, I assume you meant Shawne (Extra E) Williams in your comparison. Actually, here, I miss Shawne, notwithstanding his history, in NY he was stellar and played hard D. You could see his talent trying to shake through.

Ty Chandler = what Mozgov would hope to be in his wildest dreams.

Seriously. I'll agree the starting lineup doesn't complement each other very well. But these comparisons are forced at best and contrived at worst. This team looks pretty decent on paper and is the best set of talent to start the season that we have had in over a decade. I think this team could seriously be the top rated defensive team in the league. No joke. That's what I am hoping for. If Melo and Stat play D, like everyone else on the roster, this team is legit. It has to happen on the court, but why not look forward to that?

By that logic, replacing Lin with Felton (who can stay on the court) is a huge upgrade. :P

The things that Terry does better, the Celts don't really need. They need to spread the floor for Rondo to be effective. Terry is a very good player. He just isn't Ray Allen.

Boston is a tough team. They'll be at the top of the East along with the Heat and Knicks. It's not like this team was ever as complete as the Celtics in particular at the PG spot. In addition the Knicks lacked quality at SG and depth overall. The Knicks also had issues with the health of STAT and Melo and neither was really in top form after a summer with no training. THIS YEAR is different. To all the naysayers I think you need to acknowledge the differences between this Knicks team and last years Knicks team. I'm not throwing bouquets without substance. My points are salient and make sense based on the TRUTH of this current Knicks team and the situation being much more stable this year than last year. Also you can kiss my A** if you don't like my stance on the team. Come with some real substantive arguments against my points rather than the usual lame "Nix is just being positive" statements.

Tell me if the team is weaker now than last year! HOW SO? In what way is this Knicks team not head and shoulders better than last years Knicks team? If i'm just being Pollyanna about this team and drinking the Koolaid, show us how this team is weaker than the team that finished 18-6 and #5 in defense.

Nice joke , but i'm still waiting for substantive answers to my questions above. In what area did this team not improve over last years team? This team it deeper, bigger and more experienced. Sure we've got some old vets on the bench, but the core rotation is stronger than last year. The main rotation looks SOLID:

1. Melo
2. Amar'e
3. Tyson
4. Felton
5. Kidd
6. JR
7. Brewer
8. Shump
9. Novak
10. Camby

Rajon Rondo told me he was more confident in his 3-point shot and had been working hard on it. Form on 3 he just hit looked best it ever had

Ray Allen barely played last year and we he did he played hurt. A healthy Terry and Lee is an upgrade on that reason alone

Terry
Lee
Green
Darko
Sullinger

That's near incredible additions in an off-season considering their costs

By that logic, replacing Lin with Felton (who can stay on the court) is a huge upgrade. :P

The things that Terry does better, the Celts don't really need. They need to spread the floor for Rondo to be effective. Terry is a very good player. He just isn't Ray Allen.

ray allen lost his starting job to Bradley, bradley can hit the three and defend like crazy.. bradley will be back..

terry scores and defense, can play both guard positions and he can play the mid range game... terry is a great addition...

the ray allen that left boston isn't the ray allen of a couple of years ago...

What IF we get eliminated in the first again?
