"I was just sitting back, watching the way that some of these guys that you call great post players not playing the post," he said. "So it's the passion to come back to show ya'll how post players really need to play in the post. Old-school basketball. Ya'll used to all this new young stuff, high flying and dunking. Nah, that's not basketball. There's terrible footwork by a lot of young guys out here. Let's go back to old-school basics."

Bring it.

Ha...I just saw the interview on a local news broadcast...Classic...Was looking for it to post it...Awesome...50% of the effect of that statement was the look on his face as he said those lines...It's on!!!!

if he's legitimately in shape and rededicates himself I like the signing. But if isn't in shape and plays like he did in Boston this will be an awful signing. I'm in a wait-and-see mode and will not rush to judgement

Lead With Sheed

Class of 1995 Top Five Picks - Joe Smith, Antonio McDyess, Jerry Stackhouse , Rasheed Wallace, and Kevin Garnett.

holfresh - no doubt. Sheed gets typecast as a lounge act only by people who don't know basketball. Make no mistake, you do not play for Dean Smith and not acquire a solid foundation of fundamentals. GodSaveTheKnicks called it... Larry Brown (UNC) also had a tremendous amount of respect for Wallace.

"I don't have to say too much to the veterans. I don't have to say too much to Jason and Felt and Melo. I mean, they already know what to do. I'm just in the young guys' ears, just trying to be some motivation for them. I let them know that if you do mess up out there, it's not the end of the world; you're going to get subbed, but you've just to make up for that mistake, that's all."

What younger guys? Brewer and JR are only 1 year younger than Melo so I doubt he's talking about them. That leaves Shumpert and a whole bunch of camp invites who won't make the team.

right... if that's the reason he's on the team, he should be an assistant coach and the roster spot should be used for a prospect

VCoug - it's not simply about age. Rasheed has a ring. If you are thinking age is just a number, you are sadly mistaken.

Q. How many Knicks want to get where Sheed has been?

A. All of them.

Really? Because he said, "I don't have to say too much to the veterans. I don't have to say too much to Jason and Felt and Melo." Who is he talking about then?

He didn't say he had NOTHING to say, just less to say to the vets. He's still got a wealth of experience and being on the bench he'll see things that can help. I just want to see him get in shape and see if he can still post up and hit those sweet shots in the post. Having more players with rings can't hurt. Guys that have an understanding of what it takes to get there is a good thing to have rather than a kid that may have some talent but lack the poise and know how to get it done.

He'll talk to himself. Sheed does look a bit nutty at times.

Some of y'all just enamored with him now he is knick. They guy was a di.ck until he got to Detroit and Larry straightened him out.

Now you eat his quotes. What a proclamation of integrity the typical NBA player has when they open their mouth. He won't hurt us but lets not make him some modern day Yoda that will bestow upon the franchise the meaning of life! They selfish prick left a trail of crap in his day.

Nalod - thank you for the negative over-reaction. Modern day Yoda? Not really. Just a man with a passion to do something he has always done.

“Passion, just sitting watching the way some of the guys you call great post players not playing in the post. It’s the passion to come back and show y’all how post players really need to play — old-school basketball.

The meaning of life?

C'mon dude. If you are wound so tight with resentment, perhaps commenting on athletes is not something that is good for your health. Basketball players are not perfect. They are just like us. Sometimes spectacularly flawed and fragile. Whatever Sheed has done to earn your insults is in the past. As a fan of the Knicks, anyone who wears the orange and blue is forgiven, and gets an opportunity to show what he can do to help us win. Anyone. Latrell Sprewell. Anthony Mason. Kurt Thomas. Vin Baker. Anyone.

Trail Of Crap

“Mike (Woodson) definitely has an old-school demeanor — he played in this league himself and he knows what it takes to win. We were together in Detroit, and I liked his whole demeanor and coaching style then with Coach [Larry] Brown. Now here he is captain of his own ship, and I’m just trying to be one of his shipmates."

Nalod - Rasheed Wallace took Mike Woodson's phone call, not because he needed the money, but for his passion for the game. The trail of crap you refer to also includes a pivotal (pun intended) contribution with the Detroit Pistons that led to a championship ring for everyone. Rasheed Wallace does not need the money. What exactly qualifies Rasheed Wallace as a selfish prick more than Jeremy Lin?

I like the Nalod,.....not sure about his fandom but, he is an entertaining poster so, lets give him a break :) Knick fans have been bee stung so often that I don't blame guys for being disillusioned but, the very fact that he is still here posting gives me hope that he'll be back to uber-fan status once the games start.

Back to the topic: I, like others don't think he's here for a paycheck because, he could have gotten that from Doc (who didn't want him to retire) and others. If he was in it for the money, why not take the easy path and sign with a Miami, Boston or some other "established" contender. Instead he signed with us, being full aware of the media scrutiny he will face. That leads me to think he truly believes he can help and if so, I'm not going to doubt him.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Durzo, I do believe he wants to win but posting comments as validations from NBA players is an empty source.

Nobody ever doubted Rashweeds ability but his head was not always on right. All Tech leader and was a bad seed on a stacked portland team that came up short. Now he is who he is but to take him on as some modern day sage as some are is a bit over the top.

Woodson wants Rashweed and I do believe he can contribute. After two seasons he has the desire and lets hope his body can bring what he mouth wants. Then he can talk. I get it, media needs stories and these guys are quote machines. Fine, but to take it and run with it as somthing special is typical Knick over doing it.

Soon the play will determine it all. Rashweed I doubt is in the rotation much to start given his condition. The usual pulls and strains will come so I expect not much until a few weeks into the season. Thats keeping it real. Expecting a halo around him and some fantasy that he has team pizza parties to tell stories and teach foot work at team slumber parties with immediate results are a bit over doing it.

At least give me some credit for not expecting too much and then shytting all over when he is on the disabled list. RashWeed did not come to sit on the bench and be the "Cagy old vet" guy with a beard and smoke a pipe and tell stories. He came to play. If his body does not cooperate I could see him leave unless he might have a desire to coach. If so, he is likely going to be a different kind of guy than his playing days exhibited.

We'll see. I see little downside to this.

I'd just like to report for the record that I am not commenting on the last few posts of this thread.

And no, this post does not constitute commenting.

Here's the interview:

I like that he doesn't take c**p from the media when they try stirring up trouble.

Besides the Technical antics with refs and any off the court stuff, his lack of filter with media types is kind of refreshing from the typical PR coached canned response you hear from most athletes.

Here's a short video of him working out:

http://hoopshype.com/videos/thelighterside/rasheed-wallace-working-out

I don't get how he's lost so much weight so quickly, yet he stayed so chubby throughout the whole season with the Celtics. Anyways, it looks like it'll be a while before he starts impressing any young players with those post moves in the video...

Didn't look exactly like he was trying to school the trainer. Looked more like a conditioning drill.

Yeah, I'm not seriously going to judge him on that video performance wise, but I will say he is doing a great job losing the weight.

Sure did. Looked like Sheed got bored by the end of his career and it took a couple of seasons of being away from the pro game to get the fire back. Guess we will find out soon enough.

Im impressed with the way sheed is being involved. For example he was very focused on showing low post moves to our guys and also telling them what other players do. I know Sheed can be a hothead but he is passionate about the game
