Jeremy Lin has verbally agreed to sign a four-year offer sheet with the Houston Rockets on July 11, according to a source close to the talks.

Lin
The four-year deal would be worth an estimated $30-plus million.

A report in The New York Post on Wednesday, citing a league source, said the Rockets were planning to offer Lin a backloaded deal worth roughly $30 million. According to the same source, the deal would pay Lin $5 million in the first season, $5.2 million in the second, and then would increase to as much as $10 million per year in the third and fourth seasons.

"Jeremy Lin's an excellent player," Rockets general manager Daryl Morey told The Post. "We got to know him firsthand when he was with the Rockets early this season. We think he'd make a fantastic addition to our team."

The Knicks can offer Lin a four-year deal worth $24.5 million. In 35 games with the Knicks last season, Lin averaged 14.6 points and 6.2 assists per game.

Information from ESPN.com's Marc Stein and ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard was used in this report.

Why would Houston even make an offer like this that they know Knicks will match? If they really wanted him they should have offered 40 mil, and even then Knicks would still likely match. Now Knicks can sit back until july 14th before reacting and Houston is frozen. How dumb can they be?

they let dragic go for nothing and then traded lowry for about 50 cents on the dollar. so, pretty stupid.

seriously, even offering lin this contract just seems like face-saving by darryl morey. i think he's one of the most overrated gms in the league.

Some are saying this is some kind of favor to Lin and his pal, Yao Ming, as well as a make up for not giving him a chance when he was with them. I don't buy it because its too sentimental for this bussiness NBA, but I do like the fact that this is actually a great deal to match, so it should be no problem for us to do so even with the big jump in year three.

This is a complete favor. 4th year is a team option? Third year is ONLY like 4 million more than we would have given him?

Considering the Knicks would have matched anything up to a billion dollars, I think they should be very happy.

We owe Morey- he's negotiated a great deal for us, he really went the extra mile getting us a team option for the 4th year.

Honestly we couldn't have hoped for a better contract. First 2 years he's paid what he deserves at this point, then by the 3rd year he's either proven himself worthy, or he's a $9mil expiring contract that can be traded.

Daryl Morey took all the guesswork out of the Lin resigning for the Knicks and Grunwald. He really is a dreamy sabremetrician lol. He made the poison pill not poisonous for us! Now he's probably scouring the scrub wire for Aaron Brooks. If he doesn't pull something out of his ass soon, can you say unemployment line for NBA Billy Beane.

Rockets set to offer Lin $30 million over 4!
