I love Shumpert, but this is a move you make without hesitation.

And if it's at all possible that Nash might salvage Amare then it's worth whatever you give up for him.

You need to decide what's more important: playing for a championship or getting paid. If all you're looking for is to get paid then go spend the rest of your career toiling away in Toronto. If you want to try and win a championship here's what we can offer you. We will not offer you more if it means including Shumpert in a sign and trade; he's one of the few players in the league who can lock down an opposing team's pg, sg, and many sf. This is our offer, take it or leave it."

If someone has that talk with him, he'll realize that neither Toronto or NYK makes sense for him.

Okay question, you guys correct me if I'm wrong...why can't we do the sign and trade with JR instead of shumpert? Is it a contract issue?

To the people in favor of this deal: how are we ever going to stop an opposing team's backcourt? We have no one who can even stay in front of another guard, never mind shutting them down. Without Shump we can't stop Rose and Chicago, Wade and the Bulls, Rondo and the Celtics, Westbrook and the Thunder, Parker and the Spurs, Kobe and the Lakers, Paul and the Clippers, etc. Without Shumpert we don't have a single guard who plays even mediocre defense. And, Nash is 38 years old; who knows how much he has left in the tank.

Phoenix needs to want JR and JR would need to agree.

I forgot did shump suddently get healthy? I mean the 2012-2013 season shump is a non factor anyway. Its actually a risk for the suns because who knows if he will be the same anyway

Clearly having an outstanding offense is more important than being undersized by 2 inches at one position on defense, no?

I have a lot more confidence in finding a perimeter defender than a two-time MVP. I also have confidence in that dude we have patrolling the paint.

Well all we do know is that he played last year in a lockout-shortened season and led the league in assists on a crap team. That's worth a little bit, right?

The fact is, Rose is out for potentially the entire year next year, the Celtics are only marginally better and Wade kind of looks like he's breaking down. Need to strike while the iron's hot.

I agree with you 10,000%. That is the main reason we drafted Shumpert. We need him.

Last coach thought we needed to outscore the opponent, we weren't a .500 team..Defense wins..You can't put value on a lock down perimeter defender...Shump changed games last year with his defense...Stops matters in the playoffs...

The iron was red hot years ago.
Am I the only one who remembers him on the sideline getting stretched out during every game by the trainers in Phoenix down the stretch?

Our roster will have 4 stars, no depth and no perimeter defense. And our average age will be 29 or 30? Now Nash is an awesome player, good teammmate and a stand up guy. A lot will depend on whether he can make Amare look like amare again and whether Melo is willing to share the spotlight. I would say there is a 60% chance of the first and a 30% chance of the second, combined that's about 18% chance of success. I think shumpert is easily the second best defender on the team and has at least a 50% chance of recovery and would be great for us for years to come. I don't see this as a good trade.

Oh, and I d idn't even factor in how bad our perimeter defense will be.

I agree. I think the Knicks regret this deal for a long time if they include shump.

I think Knicks learned a few things leading up to The Melo sweepstakes, USE THE MEDIA to their advantage

I find it funny how this rumor comes out b4 Houston officially offers Lin a commitment.

1) just driving up the price for Nash to Toronto, for nulling their chances of trading for him

2) daring Houston NOT to offer too big of a poison pill that they cannot afford to swallow themselves
