i'm not a big fan of JR, but i think there are two reasons this might work out for us:

1. the vet leaders on this team (esp. Chandler) will not let him **** things up

2. he's playing for a contract so i expect his best behavior

3. if he's disruptive, he gets cut

Is this a serious question? JR can dribble-drive and create shots for himself and others. He's a spectacular athlete getting out on the break and finishing. He's come up big in huge playoff games in the past. Though he can do it, he doesn't need much help getting off a a shot for himself...

"dribble-drive and create shots for himself and others"
J.R. Smith has a career 1.0 assist per game playoff average.

"He's come up big in huge playoff games in the past."
J.R. Smith has a career 9.8 points per game playoff average on 35.6% shooting.

Now those are the facts uptown.

What does this tell me? He's a selfish guy who wants to pad his stats by playing more minutes and would rather shoot the lights out than play team ball and help his team actually win a playoff series.

Now go look up Fields's playoff stats.

But you know what, for what J.R. Smith brings to the table, it is not worth bringing in all his baggage. I would rather have a team oriented smart well rounded player than a knucklehead like J.R. Smith, especially with his numbers I have reported here.

or we could have both, play them situationally according to team needs, and in the process, deepen the roster to avoid injuries

Prediction: Smith flips out and tears team apart. D'Antoni suspends him to restore order. Fans call for D'Antoni's head

My guess is this will be handled like every other situation MDA has handled. The players who deserve playing time will get minutes and the players who don't wont get minutes, and this goes for Smith.

At least this is just a 3 month deal so if Smith acts like a jackass, his ars will be cut.

Example - See Larry Hughes
