i watched that lin highlight reel like 5 times last night, no lie. most excited i've been about the team's on the court play all season.

can't wait for his summer league rematch with john wall on wednesday.

i hope he can keep it going.

but i would caution that we shouldn't get too carried away - he's going to hit some bumps in the road, but it damn sure looks like the kid can play.

the thing i really can't wait for is to see amar'e back in the pick and roll with an actual creator. (i hope amar'e goes through his hard time with his family and comes back soon.)

i really hope we're finally catching one of those breaks we've long been waiting for. seems like every successful team has one of those "scrap heap" guys.

love the way Lin plays. i admit i was skeptical at first and why not -- he was cut twice and hardly considered a real pro prospect. let's hope he proves that the experts don't know as much as they think they do.

I don't think he's any kind of star player yet but a very good pg who can run this and take this team to the next level.

Dude, last night had nothing to do with "Mike's system" whatever the hell that is at this point.
The kid was straight up ballin', and finding the likes of NBA cast offs like Novak, Walker, and Jeffries in the right spots. If Jeffries wasn't so pathetic, the kid would have easily had 4 more assists last night.
Amazing what he did with so little to work with. Novak, though, should see some more floor time.

crzymdups - Jeremy Lin makes the game fun for his teammates. Get that dude an oxygen mask. He gutted through the second half on fumes. 45 minutes is too much to expect every night.

The injury to Carmelo could have a silver lining. Players like Steve Novak might be challenged to be all they can be. As Lin learns to involve his running buddies without Amar'e (out this week) and Carmelo (out for 2 weeks) it is a great opportunity to gradually bond with Tyson Chandler and Landry Fields.

It's Jeremy Lin's World and we are just living in it.

evil - Lin was cut for salary savings. a LOT of guys would get cut trying to make a roster behind Stephen Curry, Monta Ellis, and Acie Law. Golden State also drafted Charles Jenkins and simply had no room for Lin.

"Why cut him then? Because the Warriors were trying to get as far under the cap as possible to make the biggest offer sheet they could to restricted free agent DeAndre Jordan. Even Lin’s extra couple hundred thousand (he had a partial-guarantee of about $50,000 this season, but the non-guaranteed part was still counting against the GSW cap) was eating into what they wanted to offer.

The Warriors couldn’t stash him in the D-League because any existing NBA contract counts fully for salary-cap purposes. If they wanted more space, the Warriors had to cut Lin and eat the guaranteed money, too.

The Warriors decided Jenkins was going to make the team; there was no need for a training camp roster battle with Lin, and they needed the Lin cap-space, however little it was."

Dantoni better monitor his minutes and not run him into the ground otherwise we could have Chris DUDU Duhon part 2

Dantoni's system actually is about spacing and pg penetration. Lin so much as said that in interviews last night. I think I know what you mean though. It isn't like coach draws up plays like most coaches. He does that, but most of the time he trusts the pg it seems.

Lin is a special cat. When you combine his athleticism, IQ and BBIQ, court awareness, decent handle, excellent penetration, decent midrange game, great finisher, you have a very special player. Looking forward to him develop - he is 23 and just starting!

I think you nailed it on both your points.

I can't wait to see Lin after next Summer when he has time to work on that jumper and going left. And then a full camp with Amare, Melo, Chandler. WOW.

excellent points earthman. For example, if the outside shot is something Lin needs to improve, you can bet your LAST money honey, he will be in the gym this Summer putting in overtime to perfect his technique.

Think of it this way, by the second half Utah was triple-teaming him from the time he crossed mid court. They tried to bump him at every opportunity. Their bigs knocked him to the floor at least four times. He ran 45 hard minutes.

Dude never stopped.

I agree strongly with this. I think it's a great opportunity.

Though it'd be nice to have Amar'e back for that Lakers game on Friday...

It's really exciting to think about what this team could look like next year.

Only bummer is the coaching uncertainty. I kind of wish they'd extend D'Antoni, but you know Dolan will chase Phil instead.

Phil Jackson's offense would render Lin's skills useless.

yes Evil - You are pretty much right on. I mean Lin would still be better than fisher, but Lin with the team we have and Mike as coach is a better plan. I can't believe I'm saying that but every time I got on Mike I never said he was bad. I said he was inflexible and needed a great pg for his system to work. Well, now we have the makings of that. (edit - And I want Mike to stay, at least after seeing how we do the rest of the year. It would be crazy to break thing up before then.)

I can't believe I just did it, but I ordered NBA League pass online just so I could watch this kid play more this year. I want full screen. I think I won't be the only one. Lin is going to sell a lot of shirts and stuff.

If you wait till after the all star game prices will go down 25%.

Bottom Line

If Clyde is cool with Lin, then Lin is Cool With The Answer Man

His 10 Finest Moments: Volume 2

http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/16478/jeremy-lin-still-awesome

(Presented in chronological order.)

1. "The neophyte. This is what he likes to do, penetrate. No one denies his foray down the baseline, good swoop and hoop." (Replay of a Lin baseline drive. Also, Walt just said "neophyte." 10-5, Knicks.)

2. "He's going to be taking Lin out to dinner soon." (In reference to Tyson Chandler's respect of Jeremy Lin's pick-and-roll skills.)

3. "I know he has a dinner coming now." (The very next play, a Lin assist to Chandler. 28-20, Knicks.)

4 "They let the kid go to his right, he's going to continue to create havoc." (Replay of the Lin layup, and the foul. 32-20, Knicks.)

5. "Lin, making it look very elementary, Watson." (Replay of previous play. Frazier is just unreal.)

6. "True. Clever. Slick." (Replay of Lin's drive to the basket. 66-59, Knicks.)

7. "Watch this mesmerizing penetration and the scoop off the glass. That got the crowd involved. So nice, we show it twice." (Lin's penetration through the entire sorry Jazz defense, ending with a circus lefty layup. 86-82, Knicks.)

8. "Lin, Lin does it again. Ha-ha. Watch him almost get decapitated here with the foul." (Fast-break layup, and the foul. 77-73, Knicks.)

9. "Watch how he does this. Looks like he's going to shoot it left-handed, then swoops to the other side off the glass. This kid is a lot stronger than he looks." (Another Lin layup and the foul. It's worth noting, at this point, that the entire New York Giants football team is courtside and completely freaking out. 89-80, Knicks.)

10. "Some things are meant to be." (After Lin hits a desperation 3-pointer as the shot clock expires. 95-86, Knicks.)

i wonder if we'll be experiencing linsanity running the knicks in four years from now. that would be amazing, if he's actually all he seems to be. this could be the start of something amazing if so.
i don't know the last time a shot this long panned out for a ny team. chrebet?

Realistically what is the thought on Lin's upside? Maybe he can be at Luke Ridnour's level this season, but i'm hoping to eventually become much better. I know his stats will fall off, but i'm hoping he can start the remainder of the year and average maybe 10 pts and 5 asts in 28 mins per. Hopefully he can eventually become a 15 pts, 7-8 ast per game player.

Lin is going to be in hovering around Nash like numbers.
