TD, Fields, Shawne Williams.

Inconsistent, immature and not coach able. Need veteran leadership at Guard.

Just wondering, who are you calling non coachable in that group?

Having veterans and having veteran leadership are not the same thing. Only STAT has solid leadership skills in that front court trio. TD makes bad decisiOns, Fields not a great shooter from outside extra-E will definitely help but it still looks weak. Shrimp is rook, Fields a 1 year player and we would be relying too heavily on them.

But this definitely makes us better.

Good use for amnesty until we really need it.

Are you being sarcastic or do you support using the Amnesty like this

I think I like this deal. Too bad Paul gone but while we use amnesty now, it will hold value in the form of Chandler or Amare as long as healthy.

TD. May be non coach able was too harsh, but low IQ and prone to making bad plays.

I think you and I are the only ones who'd like to see TD elsewhere.

And did Shawne even except the deal? It was said that he had better offers elsewhere.

On Knicks-Chandler front, sources say it looks like Billups will be amnestied and Turiaf will be sent out in separate deal. No sign/trade.

A shame, but I do think Dallas are cutting their nose off to spite their face- if they're losing chandler, why not trade him for Billups and Turiaf- it gives them a great pg to take the burden off Kidd (who is old!) and some depth at PF/C to replace chandler, and both contracts end this year so it doesn't disrupt their plans for next offseason. But hey, they'd rather get nothing- okay...

I think you can't do sign and trades in the new CBA

Maybe Nixluva can clarify the issue. I think he posted info on S & Ts earlier.

You can do S&T's with teams over the cap for for the first 2 years of this CBA.

And then the S & T option goes away?

With teams over the cap it goes away. You basically can only S&T if you have the cap space to absorb the player.

Cube is no fool and he is thinking about his cap space.

He also realizes a repeat is unlikley anyway.

He has Haywood on the roster.

Why does he need to pay billups 14 mil even if for one year? To back up Kidd? TO replace Barea?

To do us a favor?

Cube knows he needs to reload and get someone to put next to Dirk and eventually replace.

There are some good restricted players next year. He might have to go deep to get one.

Chandler confirms he's coming to the Knicks: http://espn.go.com/dallas/

Still can't remember the last time a team and a player were so public about agreeing to terms before the team had the space to accommodate the signing.

Can't see us cutting Billups

Would be a waste of Amnesty for us!

Denver for Andre Miller would make most sense!

I feel this is vital

What are people not getting about this deal? To create cap room for Tyson Chandler, cutting Billups IS THE ONLY WAY.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/10/sports/basketball/knicks-to-part-with-billups-and-add-chandler.html?_r=1&ref=sports

Tyson Chandler is on his way to New York in a complicated deal that will give the Knicks a major defensive boost while leaving them with a gaping hole at point guard.

Chandler is expected to sign with the Knicks on Friday afternoon when the N.B.A. officially reopens for business, according to a person involved in the talks. To make room for Chandler under the salary cap, the Knicks will waive point guard Chauncey Billups and trade center Ronny Turiaf.

“It will be finished today,” the person involved in the talks said.

Chandler is flying to New York and could be in the gymnasium when the Knicks open training camp at 3 p.m. in Greenburgh, N.Y.

The precise terms of Chandler’s deal will depend on how much cap room the Knicks can clear, but it is expected to be in the range of $58 million over four years, with a starting salary in excess of $13 million.

Chandler, 29, averaged 10.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks last season for Dallas, helping the Mavericks win their first N.B.A. championship in June. At 7 feet 1 inch, 235 pounds, Chandler provides interior defense that the Knicks have been missing since Patrick Ewing’s departure a decade ago. He will join Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire in perhaps the most formidable frontcourt in the league.

Billups will be waived under the N.B.A.’s new amnesty provision, which means he will be paid his full $14.2 million but his salary will be removed from the cap. By unloading Billups, trading Turiaf (probably for a draft pick) and a few minor moves, the Knicks will create the cap room needed for Chandler.

As an amnesty cut, Billups will be subject to a new waiver system in which any team with cap room can place a bid, up to his $14.2 million salary. The team with the highest bid would get Billups and pay the bid amount, with the rest of the salary paid by the Knicks. If no team with cap room places a bid, then Billups would become an unrestricted free agent. The Knicks cannot re-sign him.

That chain of decisions leaves the Knicks without a proven hand at point guard. Toney Douglas, who is more of a combination guard, can play the position in spurts, but the Knicks will be shopping for a new starter.

They can't do that because then there isn't enough room to sign Tyson. The whole point in amnesty'ing Billups is to create cap space.
