I really don't like the idea of not acquiring better players. We got Melo and Stat for a reason, we have to replace our depth, and a center.

consider using the full MLE on

Dalembert
Humphries

and

Spencer Hawes(restricted FA) He had a good year in King's where he was a decent shot blocker and capable of hitting the 3. He isn't a Channing Frye 2.0 either, he mixes it up going inside out.

and add

1)Sean Williams, we have to give this kid a chance, he is one the most athletic bigs available at the cheap.

Fesenko
Foster
Josh Boone
Aaron Gray

and one of these bodies in addition to Sean Williams/Spencer Hayes or Dalembert or Humphries.

Send the message out that we are going to try to win this year and players will consider coming if they think we mean it.
Wasting Amare's 2 years and Melo 1 and half is unacceptable. I do not see us getting Dwight Howard for FA. Cp3 looks like he wants the money and isn't coming at the cheap.

And by this year's trade deadline, we can discuss possible trades while adding talent to this roster.

Just read a GREAT piece on Jared Jeffries. I like the guy despite his flaws and this article explains why he's back:

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/knicks/post/_/id/7096/jeffries-new-york-is-where-i-wanted-to-be

NEW YORK -- Many Knicks fans don't go to Jared, but not as in diamond shopping; as in they don't like what Jared Jeffries offers. But Mike D'Antoni and his staff saw enough in the 6-11 interchangeable forward-center from last season to want to bring him back at the veteran's minimum of $1.4 million.

While Jeffries can't officially re-sign until Friday, when the free-agency period is slated to start, he was at the Knicks' training center on Wednesday, along with Carmelo Anthony, Toney Douglas, Landry Fields, Andy Rautins, Iman Shumpert and Josh Harrellson. In addition to shooting around and lifting weights, Jeffries had a physical done in preparation for his return to the team -- the only one that was on his radar for the upcoming season.

"I didn't want to be anywhere else. I didn't want to go anywhere else," Jeffries said. "This is where I wanted to be. I think we have a chance to have a very good team this year."

While the fans' last memory of Jeffries was his layup rejected by Kevin Garnett in the final seconds of Game 2, as the Celtics went on to sweep the Knicks in the 2011 playoffs, the coaching staff must value the plus side -- literally -- that Jeffries delivers to the team.

Last season, Jeffries' numbers proved he was effective on the floor, especially while playing alongside Amare Stoudemire, albeit in only about 250 minutes of action. On an individual basis, Jeffries was plus-87 points (in comparison, Ronny Turiaf was minus-11 and Shelden Williams was minus-29), and ranking the Knicks' power forward-center combos, Jeffries-Stoudemire was the best at plus-62. In comparison to Turiaf, who started most of the time at center, when Jeffries was on the court the team played more efficiently, and Stoudemire shot a higher percentage.

That positive feeling Jeffries got from his sideline bosses encouraged him to don the blue and orange once again.

"That's why I came back here," he said. "I think confidence in this league is the most important thing. You have to have confidence from the coaching staff and from your teammates, in order to build that up in yourself that you're a good player."

During the offseason, while enjoying time with his wife, Jenny, and young daughter, Evangeline, Jeffries visited the Impact Basketball facility in Sarasota, Fla. four days a week, under the leadership of top NBA skills development coach Joe Abunassar. He also entered the 11th year working out with his personal trainer, Jason Riley, who boasts Derek Jeter and Ryan Howard as his premier clients. Jeffries said his focus was to maintain his weight level and also reclaim his "offensive groove," as he calls it, that he felt he found two years ago in 2010, before he was traded from New York to Houston The first-round playoff sweep stung him even more and added motivation.

"For me, personally, I think that you want to come back and don't want to leave that mark -- what you've done here in New York and what you are here in New York," Jeffries said. "So me, personally, I want to have an impact and be in a situation to help this team win basketball games. As a team, we know that we're way better than what we showed in that series [against Boston]."

Even though the NBA has a shortened training camp, Jeffries says that everyone did a really good job of staying in shape and he expects Melo, Amare and Chauncey Billups to play off each other better this season. Jeffries said he's going to continue to help the Big Three space the floor so they can be in the right spots to take their hot-zone shots. That was the main reason Jeffries' plus-minus was so strong last season. Most importantly, as the fans, players and even the coaching staff can all agree on -- confirmed by the team hiring Mike Woodson as an assistant-- it all comes down to D.

"Defense is an effort level that you have to give, and if you give that effort level consistently you could be a good defensive team," said Jeffries, who is prepared to guard the two through five positions this season. "We have the right pieces; we have the guys do it. It's just giving a constant effort to be able to succeed there."

The Wizards are close to agreeing to a contract with free agent guard Roger Mason Jr. that would bring the D.C. native back for his second NBA stint in his hometown, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

having jeffries back is extremely valuable to team chemistry. he knows the system, sacrifices his body on defense and i think he can actually get back to a point where he's not terrible on offense. people remember the turnover against garnett at the end of game 2, but forget that he was our second highest scorer in that game and played extremely well up to the last play.

i'm glad jeffries is back.

obviously it'd be nice to have a better starting center, but with the chris paul derby still in effect... that's just not happening.

people hoping dalembert signs here for the mid-level need to get their heads out of the clouds. dalembert will get $7-8 million per season from someone.

I don't think many really thought that the Knicks were going to get a guy like Dalembert. However, it would be nice if they attempted to address the position in addition to the Jeffries signing.

People need to look past his terrible offensive game and underwhelming stats and realize his value. He does what doesn't show up on the stat sheet. He is probably better than anyone we can get at center on a cheap, one-year deal. I for one like Jeffries and his versatility. I think a full season in a lineup with Melo, Stoudemire, Billups, and possibly Hill will really be a nice fit for him. As a full-time starter two seasons ago playing extended minutes he was generally decent.

He just is forward, hes not a center. He doesn't

block shots,
grab rebound,
not big enough body to guard centers,
not talented enough,

his inability to NOT score, will miss point blank layups, shoot from any range, shoot free throws,
will lead to team's playing a semi zone with help d 4v5
leads to defenders cheating

Donnie Walsh is smiling, nice job isiah and dolan

when i say forward I meant tweener, cant guard or score on both forward positions.

However, defends some PGs, and plays good team defense because of his foot speed. If Jeffries can play center Lebron, Durant, could play center!

I'm sure Lebron would be a well above average center on defense actually.

no S@!#$ what cant he better compared to Jeffries. And Allen Iverson is a Center disguised as a pg that likes to shoot and has no defense or shot blocking.
you can't be for real, if we can't get better I am thinking we will be a laughing stock stock of the year and will hurt our confidence and any FAs signing next year....

Jeffries isn't a bad signing. However, Jeffries shouldn't be seen as the solution to the Knicks size problems and he shouldn't be their starting center. Grunwald is in a bit of a tough spot. Not many veteran big men are going to roll the dice, sign a one year deal and hope that D'Antoni plays them so that they can get a bigger contract the following season. I am pretty sure Shelden Williams won't. I also don't think Derrick Brown would stick around if he was unrestricted.

Well for one thing he helps the team when he's on the floor. If you look at the stats the team played better when he was on the floor and that was a RUSTY Jared. He hadn't been used since he was traded and that long layoff hurt his game. If you remember MDA had really boosted Jared's game when he was playing with the Knicks. He'll never be great, but he had some very impressive moments offensively and I think there are few bigs as versatile defensively as Jared.

Jared may not be stellar at shotblocking or rebounding, but he gives effort and does effect shots. What gets ignored is his help D and his quick feet. He takes charges and he is good at covering ground to give help, which is much needed in MDA's style of D. Let's also remember that Jared is a small part of the bigman rotation and we still have to find other players to fill in.

KG is an all time great defensive player. It's not like KG was some scrub. KG made a very good play and got his hand on the ball. At least Jared was trying to do the right thing. Walker was wide open and if his pass got thru Walker scores easily. Besides it shouldn't really matter what happened on one play last year. This team needs help and Jared isn't the reason we lost to Boston. He's a role player and just one of the bigs we'll have on the roster. I expect that Jared will do well this year and provide needed help on D.

I still think the Knicks would like to add another big. Hopefully someone with more ability offensively. Having Jared is a smart backup option in case we can't get anyone.
