Let's keep it real simple.
Yes, the Knicks should find a new head coach
No, the Knicks should keep Mike D'Antoni

I would have expected more from a basketball town.

I think if you have followed this team for your entire life and understand basketball you know it is time to move on. I am not sure why you think this is a knee jerk reaction. There were posts negative posts about D'Antoni when he was rumored to be the choice for the Knicks. Posts about his teams sometimes practicing for as long as 45 minutes, and about how he wouldn't go to Chicago or stay in Phoenix because they wanted him to emphasize defense more. There were also posts and links to articles about his struggles to communicate with players and his fear of confrontations with players. I know because I posted links to all of those articles and I wasn't the only one on here doing it. He was never the right fit and if you are just coming around to that now great. If you want to keep excusing his faults don't accuse others of having a knee jerk reaction when every single fault of his that was documented before he came to NY has appeared and hurt this team while he has been here. I am not even bringing up his style of play which has never won a championship no matter how much talent was in place.

Really depends on matchups and seeding whether the Knicks should be 'expected' to go past the first round. If the Knicks can get 4th seed or above than yes. If they get 5th seed or below than no, I would not expect them to go past the first round.

I didn't word that sentence exactly right. I was saying that if they make the right moves, they should have enough talent to get further in the playoffs than a first-round sweep. It depends on a lot of things, but I expect to see significantly better than 42-40 and a first-round sweep next year just based on continuity. In essence, Mike gets the last year of his deal as an audition year to see if he can win or not, and if the same thing happens and the team doesn't make any progress, he'll get booted. Wanting him fired now is a knee-jerk reaction.

Papabear Says

Yes, we must replace him. Will people say he really didn't get a chance to run the team at full season? Well look at the players who he didn't really give a chance. Anthony Randolph and Hill who was traded to Houston to name a few. He is a stubborn man who refuse to change. Melo and Amare are defensive risks so we must build around them good shooters and great defensive players and a Big Big defensive and good shooting Center.

I voted yes

I hope Isiah comes back to GM and coach.

Then I can wash my hands of this team and live a happier life.

Phuck Dolan and his diva. They are perfect for each other. All style and no substance.

See you guys in a decade

I'll post what i wrote in the other thread

"for the last time please hire Rick Adelman just look at his profile: http://www.nba.com/coachfile/rick_adelman/index.html
key points:
-Known around the league as a basketball teacher with an ability to mold a team’s style of play around the strengths of his players
-Adelman’s trademark offenses have finished among the top five in the NBA in scoring on 12 occasions over his head coaching career. He has had three additional teams rank in the top-10 in points per game
-His teams have also shown a great balance on the defensive end of the floor. When matched with pace of play, Adelman has had seven squads (four with Portland, one with Sacramento and two with Houston) finish in the top-five in scoring defense.
games played-1561 games won945 games lost616 winning percentage.605
please dont give me D'antoni's record with Phoenix to support him. Look at his record with Denver and with us.
Adelman is a proven winner through time
Adelman>>>>>> D'antoni"

if Dolan can pay Jerome James to sit down, he can pay D'antoni to leave

good record. Just like Dolan's new baby with his 16-34 record in the playoffs. I love our philosophy.

Maybe Adelman would play Sheldon Williams and Anthony Carter more so we could beat the Celtics.

Phuck Adelman. I'm ALL IN for Dolan's "VERY GOOD FRIEND" Isiah to return.

Briggs was right.

I forced myself to care about these playoffs and this team. Silly me. Melo is still Melo with his Diva playoff disappearing act. Amare is broken and took the money. Walsh can do better and will and so can MDA. I wish them both luck.

Maybe like a good crack head I will pick up the pipe next fall. I hope not

dj is the smartest guy on this board. Easy.

Any coach deserves at least one year to develop a team. D'Antoni coached two different teams (pre/post Melo) in the same season.

Fish - how was being a Yankee fan until George got suspended and woke up and let his baseball people run the team?

I agree - and Dolan is going to subvert many long time fans. Its hard to root for this team when its run by an obnoxious imbecile.

I think you can clearly see that Dolan still has all the trademarks of an addictive personality - he is the one that can't wait to rebuild - he wants his instant fix.

It's a cliche that people use.

It's like when they say "once in D'Antoni's doghouse you never get out". Yet pretty much everyone that we've seen go into the doghouse has eventually gotten another shot. They are simply cliche's.

Wait - who got into MDA's dog house and got another chance to play here? I can think of maybe one and that is Toney Douglas. Nate, Darko, Larry Hughes - all gone. Marbury & Curry too.

Did D'Antoni trade them.

Toney Douglas sat on the bench and got another shot.
Nate sat on the bench and got another shot
Darko, did not deserve another shot
Larry Hughes sat on the bench and got another shot.
Billy Walker was on the pine for a good portion of this year and got antoerh shot
Roger Mason sat all year and got a shot
Mozgov started, went to the bench and then got another shot
Did Curry deserve a shot???? Why even mention him
Marbs was the one guy(as much as I hate him) that seemed to have gotten the shaft.

All these other guys, Darko, Curry and Randolph had many a rumor about work ethic circling around their heads. Just because it didn't work out for some does not mean that D'Antoni puts guys in the doghouse and then forgets about them. The majority of these guys got a chance to play within the system.

I just hope that people will like me

Douglas didn't get out of the dog house until Walsh traveled with the team to evaluate the players and coaching staff on the March Texas road trip that year. Toney got lucky that Walsh was still healthy enough to travel.

still working that?

what if Walsh went on the trip to watch TD play after they both agreed it was time?
