MDA couldn't guarantee him playing time, now he is shutting down Kobe in the second round.

“He’s going to be ready to play and I won’t hesitate to use him,” Dallas Coach Rick Carlisle said before Game 2 of the series Wednesday night. “He’s kept himself ready. He’s played a lot of big games in his life because of the two championship runs in college. He loves this kind of situation. I don’t know what the minutes will be, but I know he can help us.”

He can help a better team than us, but MDA couldn't guarantee him minutes.

Good thing defense isn't important.

and once again, the 5mm salary to a team like ours with needs other than at the wing is sacrifice we had to make. The Corey Brewer experience was not going to happen. where does his minutes fit?

We don't know Fields stinks up against Ray Ray until AFTER the fact.

I'd rather groom Fields and get swept then blow 5mm on the Corey Brewer Experience and perhaps lose the series 4-1 or 4-2.

considering that Poo Poo Platter that was Melo's supporting cast, Brewer would have played HUGE minutes in the postseason. He has talent. People forget he was the best Florida Gator on the back-to-back Champs featuring Al Horford and Joakim Noah

Oh - you mean the 5MM option which we could have declined this summer? Or if we had a real coach, and Brewer actually looked good, we could have kept and then traded at the next deadline, perhaps for a center?

That's why we released him, and not MDA's dislike for defensive minded players.

I have to agree here. I'm not as high on Fields as some but he earned his spot. Corey Brewer has not been a good NBA player. This is a case of throwing poop on the wall and hoping it sticks. Could Brewer have helped? Maybe. But he has nothing in his NBA career to merit time over the guys who had already been here. Armchair QBing

and and if Billups did not get hurt.......and and......if Amare had not hurt his back, and and if Shawn Williams was not playing injured, and and if Toney Douglas did not hurt his shoulder, and and if JJ makes the pass, and and if Walker learns to not plow over everyone, and and if MDA was more defensive minded, THEN Brewer in the role of defensive stopper on the court MIGHT have made a difference.

And your really throw Fields under the bus after he starts all season long?

Sorry, hindsight revisionist second guessing by fans thinking they are privy to enough information and themselves had the better way is funny as hell.

Likely, Brewer plays, nobody is impressed and we argue over to realease him. Meanwhile he is out 5mm contract. So we did the guy a solid favor by getting him to a team that was willing to pick it up.

Knicks have a reputation of not screwing with players. Ok, GOOD players!

I can't argue his ineffectiveness nor I believe any his effectiveness in a knick uniform because too much has to happen.

Mavs are a top 5 team all year long and bought some insurance with him. Good teams can afford to do this.

I think a guy like Brewer is a solid good player and yeah I think he could have helped. Would he have turned our season around?

If Fields was having confidence issues would bringing along Brewer helped? We know the result after the fact but what if fields had a great series? What if the experience helps fields going forward? What about making commitments to players we already have and develop them as we so long to do?

We complain we don't develop players but fans really don't have any patience.

But doesn't the coach deserve some blame for not even letting him sniff any minutes? If we want to defend someone, we can defend them to death and always play devils advocate. We/he might have the same excuses after next season if injuries happen (which they always do) and a bad passes happen and if non-defensive players don't play defense and if Happy Walters wants another favor ... but excuses only go so far and he will be fired.

I just think that Brewer deserved a little burn to see if he could possibly have contributed chemistry-wise and defensive intensity. We can't look at previous years/teams/experiences as proof of how a player will do on a new team. Many players find a resurgence in new surroundings.

I guess the answer is "no".

He did not deserve a look. He was not in our plans. In retrospect we had enough new players coming in and perhaps due to salary and both Field, walker and Shawn Williams all in front of him it was not in the cards. Before we knew our playoff foe and before injury. It was before Lando smacked the wall.

The benefit of hindsight is beneficial.

I agree that "Blame" is over rated but that depends on how you define blame and what is it's reprecussion.

I like MDA and think that he is a stand-up guy but he is a bit too stubborn. I believe that for him to succeed next year he will need to reduce his stubborness, take on a defensive coach (I'm would love lawrence frank), make it fsol (fifteen), hope Donnie's moves pan out - which is a crap-shoot, and alot of luck just like any coach who wins without a great team. Things have to fall correctly.

It will be a tall task and this is it for him. If he fails this year even if none of it was his fault, he is a gonner.

Are we just going to ignore the fact that Donnie has a relationship with Brewer's agent and that agent knew he had a longterm deal for his client and we weren't going to guarantee an extension. So Donnie did him a favor. Stop saying this was MDA, when it wasn't. There was NO WAY we were keeping Brewer!!!!!!! The guy had a better situation and his agent didn't want his client to miss out on that deal. Donnie wasn't going to destroy a good relationship with an agent over a player he wasn't going to extend anyway. Once again, this had NOTHING to do with MDA not wanting to play him. NOTHING!!!!!

Were the Knicks going to commit to this kid and give him the contract he got from Dallas? You know there's no way they were going to do that. Donnie tried to trade this kid IMMEDIATELY, before the trade was even finished!!! SO what the hell are you laughing at? Show me how i'm wrong!

If Brewer woulda played and we saw what he could and could not do in MDA's system, then and only then could one determine what his worth to the knicks was.

I think the issue is with the coach's rigidity and willingness to only commit to certain types of players. When you have the Knicks depth issues, know that you are going to face Wade, Bron, Pierce, Allen..., in the playoffs you have to be able to see the merit of a guy like Brewer as a coach.

A 5 million dollar tryout? Then cut him screwing him out of 5mm? GM's know whats up with him. He's a good player nobody disputes it. The assumption is MDA is all close minded and a fool. In hindsight you can inject that the Corey Brewer Experience would have turned around the season.

Who do you want, Fields or Brewer?

You think its good business to screw a kid up cuz you might need him in a series and you think your prized rookie might wilt and your two star player get injured in 20 games and you prefer to go with Shawn Williams instead who busted his ass all season? And of course you don't know he hurts his hand!

How would keeping him, playing him and trying him out have prevented him from getting a similar - or possibly better- contract in the off season?

What does Fields have to do with Brewer?

Why give up an asset simply because your coach 'can't find time for the guy'- the same way struggled to find time for AC - who almost singlehandedly won our only play off game because he refused to play MDA's 'Defense Ain't that important' method of losing basketball.

AC played because Chauns got hurt. Brewer is a wing. Carmelo is a wing. Fields is a wing. Shawn Williams is a wing.
Choices have to be made AT THE TIME YOU HAVE TO MAKE THEM.

The dude has a 5mm team option. He don't fit into our plans. He fit in hindsight in a playoff series based on what we discussed.

The Mavs pretty much understood at the time there was a high probability they'd have to play thru the Lakers and Kobe and Caron Butler's injury left them needing. They are on a higher level than us and are all in to make a run this year with all the pieces in place. They take on Brewer and go over the cap is what a team like that should do.

We don't have a center. Mavs have two. We need a pt guard and a starting center. Not a 5mm wing to "see what happens".

Remember, Brewer was ours before Carmelo played a game. Fields was the 2nd best rookie in the league. Shawn williams was killing it. Think about the team at that moment in time.

You know, in hindsight you are correct. Fields hit the wall, Shawn got hurt, BIllups got hurt and we needed an athletic wing to play defense. But like I said, at that moment in time.......Thats my point of contention. Not that MDA is just all arrogant (all the time).

I'm still failing to understand your reasoning? Shawn Williams a wing, yet how often did MDA send him out at the 5?

The point is Brewer was an asset with a defensive flavor. Whether we had Fields, Williams and Carmelo ahead of him - the fact is MDA would often play a lot of 'prototypical' wing players at the same time.

This is not MDA as arrogant as it is his failure to have an open mind about giving guys a chance to play.

We can debate whether Darko & AR were divas and didn't try. Brewer never had a chance to have his Anthony Roberson moment.

Say goodbye to Corey Brewer
