You should check out this article in the denver post. They seem to be pretty high on Gallo.http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci_17493230?source=rss
Most of us were high on Gallo too! How could you not be high on that guy? But this thread is about whether he is immediately a better player. Hard to tell after 2 games.
I'm not suggesting that Gallo has undergone this dramatic transformation. He wasn't posting up in NY, he wasn't going coast to coast, and he wasn't making nifty passes in transition. When he did it was the exception to the rule. What struck me was that he was doing all of this right after arriving in Denver. I'm curious as to why? The article CrushAlot posted seems to suggest coaching.
And I agree that it IS coaching. I just don't agree that it's a knock on MDA. I posted this yesterday also in another thread. MDA is a open book on what his philosophy is and how he coaches. He has a system, he has his pride and he is somewhat inflexible. I don't see those as being bad things. We hired MDA knowing that's what we were getting. Whether Phil Jackson has Gallo, MJ, Kobe or Renaldo Balkman he would try to fit them into the triangle offense. It's what these dudes do. But unlike Phil Jackson, MDA at least had teh balls to take on a challenge instead of only going to teams that had two mega-stars on it. I am NOT saying MDA is better than PJAX just pointing out differences in attitude.
I also posted somewhere yesterday that I would have liked to see Gallo bring the ball up more when he was here. But I think it's unfair to say Gallo was misused here. If Gallo has any value it's because of MDA, before taht he was just another soft white euro with stiff legs. Just ask the people on this board, that blew their collective tops when the kid was picked.
