He has intimated he wants the money. With that, he loses the leverage. Denver does not make an crazy proposal if it thinks they can end up with nothing. Until Melo shows his mettle on this issue Denver has the leverage.

Eventually they will trade him but on their terms.

Melo hasn't done anything wrong, he simply hasn't yet decided for himself which future he prefers. Ultimately, money is worth FAR LESS than the most precious commodity any athlete possesses: time. If Melo wants to make the best use of that, then he needs to stop worrying about money. Let CAA worry about it since their share will be less, but Melo in The Garden wearing rings is WAY more valuable to him than cash money. He needs to stop thinking about his extension and focus on his PLAN for the prime of his career.

How many millions does a family need? Certainly not more than a few hundred million. If I had $100 million and I invested conservatively, my principal would be protected and growth assured barring unforeseen financial calamity. Surely he knows some private bankers who could assure him of that.

Melo, take some Valium and wear earplugs to any meeting with CAA and that douche WWW.

Regarding the Nets: Puhleeez! Prok already went down this road and saved face before he got burned. He is already a billionaire. Status is more important to him than Melo. If he knew Melo would sign, then OK, maybe. But he already knows Melo won't, so there's no legs to this rumor. It's just the puerile Denver FO desperate to shake loose extra stuff from the Knicks.

Denver knows Nets value Melo more than Knicks. Similar to Knicks valued Amare more than other teams.

Knicks have its franchise player. Nets need theirs and would pay more.

So Nuggs are smart to re-engage them.

Melo can simply tell Nuggs he is not extending with them, or the nets. If he tells them he is willing to opt out or extend with Knicks then Denver has a choice of getting SOME value or none. Being Spiteful to Melo gives them no value.

Knicks look at Melo not as a franchise player and place a lower value on him.

So don't blame Donnie, and don't blame Denver. This falls on Melo. He wants his money. He sees it as his money. And he should, its on the table.

Amare has shown qualities Melo has yet to demonstrate. Nets want to go there thats their problem. Im very happy getting melo at a decent price but if not Im good.

I fear more we pay big for him. Then its its a starphuch.

Melo has actually intimated every possible scenario.
1. He only wants the Knicks; he is open to signing with other teams.
2. He wants to be in NY; other places could be fine, like NJ;
3. Winning is most important, the money is secondary; the money is very important
4. He will opt out at the end of the season if he isn't traded; he might extend with the Nuggets;
5) Blah! Blah! Blah!

I think this is CAA trying to get more possibilities and more money for their client-Melo. They have spread a huge amount of false leads and false info and the press are their pimps, writing stories about every rumor they hear from unnamed sources. Melo is trying to play neutral because he is not allowed to publicly demand a trade to only one team - Knicks.

I don't think that Denver is really interested in trading Melo right now. Maybe right at the deadline but maybe they try for the playoffs this year??? They probably hope that Dolan/Isiah get involved and Dolan gives them the entire Knick's team plus 1st round picks. A similar scenario to what happened to us last year when we "had" to trade Jeffries and Hill, so why not again. I just really hope that we don't buckle under pressure and do another crazy trade at the last minute.

Has Melo said these things? To me it sounds like he is interested in going to the Knicks possibly. Possibly interested in resigning with the Nuggets. Possbily signing with another team he is traded to. It sounds like his worst crime is that he doesn't know what he wants

I just hope that people will like me

Bottom line, Denver wants to much no matter who they talk with, and everybody knows it.

Nobody who should has taken leadership on this.

Melo's agents want don't want him to opt out. It costs them big.

Denver is doing ok really. Until he opts out they are fine.

Melo has not shown his true colors yet.

This is like E-bay. Somtimes you over pay to get what you want. Sometimes you way underpay. It depends on who is bidding. Supply and demand. Denver needs a market.

Way to much to speculate. Thats what makes it fun!

I never said that Melo said all of these things. I wrote that Melo "intimated".....I could add "Melo has intimated and reporters using unnamed sources have written"
Basically what is said in public doesn't mean anything. What happens at 3PM on Feb 24 will tell the story.

Reports have surfaced that the Nuggets and Nets are talking again about a trade to send Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey.

But a source with knowledge of the situation tells Alan Hahn of Newsday that the Nets reemergence is not genuine.

"The Nets are out," the source said.

Hahn writes that the Knicks are not confident that Denver actually knows what it wants from a deal for Anthony and offers his opinion that it is "amateur hour" in the Nuggets' front office.

Nets at this point could be doing nothing but entering the fray for two reasons:

Steal Melo if things break down

and

Donnie is making sure Nets don't get sweet heart deal.

But the real question is what will Melo do? Nets don't matter unless he extends with them.

Gotta get his guy:

The Nets are talking with The Trail Blazers about trading Harris for Miller and more players. I honestly believe The Nets are out of the hunt for Melo.

I agree...

My gut says at this point it's NY or Den.
