He has intimated he wants the money. With that, he loses the leverage. Denver does not make an crazy proposal if it thinks they can end up with nothing. Until Melo shows his mettle on this issue Denver has the leverage.
Eventually they will trade him but on their terms.
Melo has actually intimated every possible scenario.
1. He only wants the Knicks; he is open to signing with other teams.
2. He wants to be in NY; other places could be fine, like NJ;
3. Winning is most important, the money is secondary; the money is very important
4. He will opt out at the end of the season if he isn't traded; he might extend with the Nuggets;
5) Blah! Blah! Blah!
I think this is CAA trying to get more possibilities and more money for their client-Melo. They have spread a huge amount of false leads and false info and the press are their pimps, writing stories about every rumor they hear from unnamed sources. Melo is trying to play neutral because he is not allowed to publicly demand a trade to only one team - Knicks.
I don't think that Denver is really interested in trading Melo right now. Maybe right at the deadline but maybe they try for the playoffs this year??? They probably hope that Dolan/Isiah get involved and Dolan gives them the entire Knick's team plus 1st round picks. A similar scenario to what happened to us last year when we "had" to trade Jeffries and Hill, so why not again. I just really hope that we don't buckle under pressure and do another crazy trade at the last minute.
The difference between fiction and reality? Fiction has to make sense.
