Chandler, Williams, Turiaf, protected 2014 draft pick (plus $1m more somewhere) is not "free".
Not sure why people keep responding as if I'm saying the Knicks can't create the space to sign Melo. I'm not and haven't and keep saying so.
All I'm saying signing him as a free agent will cost them no less than 3 current rotation players and maybe more.
good gravy. this is like the jordan hill trade all over again.
guess what? if you want to add a (really, really good) player to a 15-man roster, most likely you are going to have to get rid of a player or two. that's why there is a salary cap and that's why there is a roster limit of 15 players per team.
you're right, melo won't be "free"... we'll also have to pay him in dollars which aren't free. he'll also win us games which aren't free.
we get your point - we won't be able to hold onto every single player on the roster.
but what you don't seem to get is that this is about protecting the core and adding melo to it. if you lose one piece from the core, in chandler, and add melo - you are doing pretty well.
