Last offseason was all about upgrading the team to finally take the steps towards the playoffs. While the main objectives were missed, the team still upgraded its talent. But so far this season, the results have been the same as we follow past scripts into another losing season. This with coach Mike D'Antoni playing his 3-point system when it clearly doesn't suit his team. As the losses and bad showings keep mounting, management will have to make a decision.

This was supposed to be D'Antoni's make or break season and so far he has shown he will stick to his system even though it doesn't favors his roster. Should the Knicks fire D'Antoni?

Yes, his system clearly doesn't suit us. Can't win only shooting 3's.
No, we have to get him better players to run his system.
Its too early to tell but I'd fire him if we are 7-10 games under .500 after 25 games.
I'd let him finish the season and then make a change if we don't make the playoffs.
He is untouchable. He will guide us to the promised land.

Does anyone seriously think we should let D'Antoni finish the season still?

His one page playbook charade needs to end its run on Broadway. D'Antoni got thoroughly schooled by a better coach. Rockets, with absolutely no star player, and two starters out, were constantly moving off-the-ball, posting up, swinging the ball around the perimeter to work the weakside, running out the clock once they built a big lead.

MSG has gotten cheap. D'Antoni has a 4 yr deal $24 million deal. I dont see him getting fired. I see Walsh not getting his contract renewed though.

It's definitely too early. Lets give him the whole year to figure it out, since the last two years were irrelevant, even if he still got up to coach to some of the players we still have. Lets wait since he clearly is just a few plays going his way to win again, even if we still keep finding new ways to lose to "bad" teams. Give it a year to see what happens, even if we may not even make 25 wins. (Yeah, this team is too talented for that, but again, we thought they were talented enough to beat lowly teams.)

Meanwhile, we have lost our fifth straight game, with Coach D'An arms folded while no sign of adjustment is shown. Our opponents? Sixers, Bucks, Warriors, T-Wolves and Rockets.

Sadly D'Antoni will wish he was fired once those boos start raining down upon him.

i don't think he's the right coach for this franchise at all, but DW is invested in this guy... IMO he's going to get at least a few months before DW even thinks about pulling the trigger... by that time all the excuses in the world won't be able to save him from his W-L record w/this roster.

he only has 1 more year left after this season, no? i can easily see him getting axed if he doesn't get this team playing better by the Allstar break... Dolan completely bought into the 2010 plan & is expecting results THIS season, especially after we just spent a boatload of money & assets bringing in the new guys on this roster... if MDA can't get the job done this year, Dolan is going to lose patience & order DW to hire a new head coach... scary thing is he'll probably want Isiah back.

That happens and NBA is dead for me until he is fired again/ Dolan is forced to sell the franchise. Really, there are levels of masochism a Knicks fan can endure but Isiah being brought back would be a disgrace beyond basketball. To think we are in such a hole and the possible course of action is extremely worse says a lot about how ugly our situation is.

KNICKSFAN,
I want to change my vote. Something has changed on this team since the beginning of the year. Please start a new thread with the same title, say "#2" and let us vote again.

Look- I like MDA & I like his style of play- wide open, fluid.

I also thought he was the best choice when he was brought on board. I've defended against the charges of no defense, and I think the team has clearly been better on the D this year.

However, maybe I am reading too much into it.

But after they lost in Minny, I seem to recall reading that the team spent extra time on watching the game film. And I think in sports, you learn by doing, not watching. A coach like Riley would have had a hard, physically demanding practice.

I think MDA is too cerebral, and he needs to dumb down his system until guys start to execute, and he also needs to get some conventional plays in his play book. Simple things the team can run that look different, and are used to get baskets at key times.

At what point are supporters willing to concede that Mike needs to get fired?

Lenny Wilkens, JVG and Larry Brown as well. (Altho I don't like Larry Brown - too adversarial with mgmt)
