Randy Foye got 4 million and is a much better player. Shannon Brown is probably the most athletic or one of the most athletic guys in the league. Giving this guy a deal would be a huge mistake. Let's just go with what we have right now. Chandler, Buke, Douglas, Walker gives us plenty of options.

Playing with the Lakers makes a lot of guys look much better than they really are, see Devon George.

The reason I think we're interested in Rudy Fernandez and Shannon Brown is because the players on the current roster are all injury prone (except for Toney Douglas).

I would tend to think it comes from Brown's people.

I remember we had that Spanish guard from last year who claimed the Knicks were offering him this or that, and the Knicks had to come out and say it was not true.

Brown is just trying to leverage his contract up with the Lakers. He probably knows that LA won't give him $4M/yr, but he will get some good $$ from the Lakers ($3M?) and stay on the team he has won two rings with.

The problem with tht theory is that if they were to say that a "4 million offer has been made" they paint themselves in a corner. If LA comes back and says they aren't interested in him any more and then he signs elsewhere for less then 4 mill then the credibility of the agent comes in to question. Risky move.

Wonder how things went with that Spanish guard from last year- I forgot his name, but I wonder where, and for how much he signed.

I'm not even sure if there is even a 4 million dollar offer on the table- more likely 2 years for about $5M. Hollinger had this tweet a couple of days ago:

Unless Knicks plan on using the Matt Barnes Imaginary Exception, looks like most they can offer Shannon Brown is $2.6 mil in Yr 1.

I have no idea about the Exception thingee, but it seems pretty clear to me that we cannot pay anyone $4M/yr. at this point without a trade, and why would the Lakers, who are looking to get rid of Sasha want to take on someone from the Knicks. I also know that the Knicks would probably not release any actual $$ numbers at this point, so I still have to think that the $4M number comes from Brown or is a misunderstanding by the reporter.

When listening to Hahn it sounded as if the Knicks and Brown's camp had been in discussions for a while but that there was no offer on the table. They might have discussed figures and the reporter may have made a mistake and thought an offer had been made

I just hope that people will like me

When you see time pass like this with no deal--you have to think using NY as bait for LA offer.

.... bait that LA may possibly refuse to bite in this case as well.

You think he would have entertained a different team (NJ?) that actually had the cap space to drive up the price.

As of last Thursday, Alan Hahn said on Knicks Live that we haven't officially made an offer, contrary to what's been reported..We'll see this Thursday night on the next episode of Live if there's anything new to report on Brown or anything else.

EDIT: I defer to Bip who already had this info above.

The Knicks' chances of landing free agent shooting guard Shannon Brown are just about over.

Mark Bartelstein, Brown's agent, told The Post the Lakers guard is "leaning'' toward returning to the Lakers to go for a "three-peat.''

Brown is expected to make his final decision Thursday.

"The Knicks did a great job selling Shannon on everything and their vision for him,'' Bartelstein said. "They did a great job but the chance to go back and win a third championship for the Lakers is a tough thing to pass up. He'll make a final decision (Thursday).''

You just know that something is wrong when it doesn't materialize pretty quickly once a purported offer comes out.

I think it was beneficial for us both, The Knicks and Shannon Brown whose agent is Mark Bartelstein. Donnie has a good relationship with Bartelstein as he is David Lee's agent. We are trying to get Rudy Fernandez and if Portland saw we might get Shannon Brown, they could come down to accept a reasonable trade. Right now, Portland is asking for the moon.
