"It's not what you say, it's what you do" - Mandrill

knicks1248 - with all due respect, Malik Rose and Q Rich did not spend and part of their Summer in Africa, teaching basketball fundamentals to less fortunate in Dakar, Senegal, with the Basketball Without Borders Program.

Turiaf also helped deliver some 500 bed nets as part of the Nothing but Nets program to help prevent the spread of malaria, the No. 1 killer in Central Africa.

Hasheem Thabeet said he was stunned when he was told that every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria, which is transported by mosquitos.

"I wished we could have spent some more time delivering more nets," he said. "There are a lot of people in the U.S. that take their life for granted. They just don't know how many people have needs out here in the real world."

Leadership, dude.

Hey... i'm not knocking the dude, not saying he isn't qualified to lead us, as a matter of fact, he sounds like a great locker room dude.

I'm just thinking man...where did I hear this before.

This guy seems like a great role player. When I look at this roster, it's a combination of layden, IT and MDA's plan.

High character guys= layden
Long athletic guys who can play multiple positions= IT
Fast pace guys who can run and shoot 3's= MDA

the hell!? ... this is Donnie's plan. How you would ever group Layden and Isiah into the same sentence boggles my mind. And MDA is the coach, not the GM.

Donnie hired Mike knowing full well what kind of players he needs to be successful. He finally got the chance to put that team together for his coach. That's what good GM's do but also he made sure to address team needs not necessarily based on Mike's likes or dislikes. He is building a good and balanced team any coach could win with.

knicks1248 - not qualified to lead "us"? He is not leading the UltimateKnicks forum, Turiaf is ALREADY leading his brother Knicks by connecting with his team mates and through his charitable his actions in the off season with Gallinari and Randolph. That, and his quote, is good enough for me.

what are your three main criteria for team captain?

Amare is the captain. The rest of the guys are co-captains. Everyone on this team will lead. Go Knicks!!!

The title of Captain is given by a coach to a player- hopefully a player who is also a leader.

On a team, a leader, by definition, is somebody who others on the team will listen to, follow/emulate, and come to for counsel.

You can have an official, designated Captain/leader, while also having other players who are leaders in their own ways. You would expect Amare or Felton to emerge as leaders this year, but there is no doubt in my mind that Turiaf will be a kind of spiritual/emotional leader on this team.

No actual need to name an official "Captain" at this point, IMO- MDA should let things evolve at their own speed.

None of our holdover players have the experience to be leaders at this point. I've said before that I believe Gallinari will eventually be a leader, and I think that Douglas, if he produces, has some leadership ability, but both a few years to go before they can be considered team leaders.

No man is happy without a delusion of some kind. Delusions are as necessary to our happiness as realities- C.N. Bovee

Felton, Amar'e and Gallo. No doubt in my mind that's the top 3 guys. With Duhon n Lee gone Gallo will be able to shine. He's already been very vocal and is bold enough to be a leader.

I always liked it when the team votes for the captain. Let them go through training camp and have the team vote for 1 captain.

What makes you think Felton is a stopgap? Do you really think the Knicks are going hellbent on Chris Paul?
