i'm not trying to side with the "haters" here, just saying they got a right to post their opinions & others have a right to disagree w/them... but to deny them the right to express their views, as long as they're presented with some form of backup reasoning, at least in my opinion, is wrong... there seems to be a gang mentality that exists on forums & people that post controversial opinions that might not necessarily agree with the popular norm tend to become outcasts... it's easy to always tow the company line & agree with everything the franchise ever does, & then try & sound "reasonable & intelligent" by mocking anyone who goes against it... then when things don't turn out well for the franchise, to turn around & put those who presented their doubts on blast by saying they're just a buncha non-fans who only wish harm on the franchise... is a poster like misterearl any less of a troll than someone like playa is accused of being just because he chooses to disguise his venom & inflammatory comments in flowery language reeking with condescending self importance?

Sorry, no offense, but I can't see where you're coming from on this one. Of course, playa doesn't get the benefit of the doubt and there are absolutely instances where his reputation proceeds him. In that particular thread, however, any of the other posters would've had the common sense to not post like that, so there's no comparison. If most of the people here had posted that, I would've assumed their account got hacked. From playa it was plausible (and, sadly, almost expected) and in extremely poor taste.

As for telling people to shut up and stop posting their opinions, nobody has ever truly meant that, as far as I can tell. If that's what you and bitty want to perceive is happening, I can't stop you from thinking that, but that is not what anyone here actually wants. I don't think anyone has problems here with people disagreeing. Actually, people here seem to love to argue (their poor girlfriends/wives). But, it should be noted that if you have an uncommon opinion, you're going to have to do more work to defend it and, at least, give a reasonable explanation why you feel that way. That is NOT an unreasonable expectation. If you can't defend your position, how can anyone else be expected to relate? When people try to go back and forth with playa, he simply ignores any point/question and continues ranting. That's not a discussion. That's the main reason playa has been blasted before, IMHO.

Now, I know you feel differently and that something else more sinister and gang-style is going on or whatever. I don't agree. If you still feel that way, can we just agree to disagree? I already put playa on ignore, at bitty's request. I also don't see what misterearl has to do with this and that seemed like a cheap shot towards him, when he wasn't involved in this thread.

when people take digs at those who are labelled as "trolls, haters, bitchy ass whiners, etc." by the masses it's not a cheap shot, but pointing out how another poster's words are regularly laced with condescension & arrogance is a cheap shot on my part? you are defending a poster who regularly takes sarcastic digs at specific posters & then feigns innocence when called out for it... i just hope you realize that.

& i wasn't referring to you, but there are some guys around here who think they got a right to tell others not to express an opinion... if you read up on the forums in different threads you see the typical suspects throwing insults at anyone who has been critical of the T-Mac trade... you see the same people who have waffled from posting threads saying we'd be stupid not to re-sign David Lee this summer do a complete 180 & praise the trade for Anthony Randolph saying it was a smart move, & then go on to rag on those who have stuck by their guns all year in being critical of the T-Mac trade... you see some grade school schoolyard sheit going on where anyone who's opinion goes against the norm gets lambasted & alienated, as if this was a damn popularity contest rather than a forum to discuss opposing viewpoints... you see anyone who dares utter a single negative word against the Knicks' MO automatically be labelled a "hater" because they don't spend their waking nights worshipping a very questionable decision that's been made by management, & instead of reasonably discussing why some people may feel different, they completely minimalize people's opinions by saying it's just more of the same "bitching & moaning"... these same people try & pass themselves off as the "reasonable thinkers" but they spend more of their time degrading other people's opinions than presenting their own.

again, i'm not trying to defend playa's opinions, but he's got a right to express them, just as you have a right to disagree with them... i'm not gonna rehash that discussion from that particular thread here... i already told you i don't see why anyone would have been offended & that it was a worthwhile discussion to have... we obviously see things differently with that one so we'll just agree to disagree... it's OK to disagree... it's NOT OK to tell others not to post their opinions just because they don't agree with you... that's my point... it's not hard to ignore someone how that there's an ignore feature.

I was going to not respond, but I did want to note one piece: I wasn't defending earl, just wasn't sure what he had to do with the discussion. Looks like the discussion has expanded well beyond what it originally was. While I understand what you're saying, I think that's something completely different and I don't really have a full opinion on the ragging you're talking about. As for the other pieces, we agreed to disagree, so I'm not going to comment much further.

Marv what you failed to realize is I knew he wasn't coming that's why I started the thread. Everything else that other people said was just plain foolish !

playa i'm talking about bigger picture here. why people are quicker to react to you in general.
