Carmelo and Parker are definitely apart pf the convo becuause if we miss out on Lebron/Wade and we manage our cap right this summer, (spening about 10 mil to add a few more pieces) and saving the remaining 7 mil of the 2nd cap slot, we could conceivably have another 17 mil when Curry expires (max-cap-slot, of course it all depends on the new CBA aswell) that we could use to obtain Melo outright as a FA. This money wouldn't be available if not for the trade with Houston. Now dont get me wrong, I thought we gave up a pick too much at the time, but what's done is done and we are still in a good spot.

yes I agree......

I think CP3 Mayo and Ellis will all fit better with Bron then Tony Parker though and Mayo
or Ellis can be had now.....

I see Bron playing PG in this system!!

Rings true for me:

Knicks getting Amare now reminds me of when the Celtics traded for Ray Allen.

At the time, Celtics traded the #5 pick in a decent draft for an aging Ray Allen on a big contract and the C's were coming off a horrible season. No way they are a contender at this point. But they knew they had a chance at KG. One more major piece and they were golden. They lucked out.

Same with us. We are def not a contender now. But we are def closer and have a major piece in a huge offensive interior presence. We also have a chance at landing another major player that will make us an instant contender. And this move helps us. Lebron or even waiting till 2011. And if you remember, KG had 0 interest in going to the C's. He had to be convinced. And that Ray Allen deal was a huge part of it. Even right after the deal he was hesitant.

So I think this is all worthwhile. We are in a position. I cant ask for anything else.

For all the people who are thinking "the Knicks are not a contender now. This is all BS. We are wasting time and we should save our space until we know we are a contender". Most of the time its a huge long process. You dont become a contender instantly overnight. That is ludicrous. Its a step by step procedure. And the thing about this move is we still have plenty of flexibility in one more max spot. So you have to like this.

Roll the dice, hope for the best. At least we have a decent shot I think in living the dream

He makes a good point, they could have atleast explored some sign and trades. A couple of second rounders and a exception is better then the Goose egg.

The proof of the value in DW's moves are clear to see. These theoretical S&T's you keep bringing up would not put the team in contention to get Lebron or Wade. Also we still have the cap space if neither guy comes. Also we still have a pick next year and the 2012 has some protection. That's not the worst deal for us. The risk was worth it.

this coming from the same guy who told me we'd have enough assets to trade for CP3 this summer.

in case you hadn't noticed, i was actually in favor of going after Amare... i even prefer him over Chris Bosh, i've made that point several times but i guess if the point doesn't suit one's argument it's convenient to ignore it.

so to set the record straight once again, i'm happy we got Amare, but this doesn't justify the T-Mac trade to me... not yet... we need to land the other big fish... if that happens, i think Donnie made the right move... if it doesn't & we end up using up the cap on the Mike Millers & Raymond Feltons of the world, then i'll think he made a mistake... before i know the final results i can't say Donnie failed or succeeded... not yet... apparently some of you already think Donnie's plan was a huge success.

Well, to be fair, there's no guarantee that Amare signs if we don't have enough cap room for a chance at LeBron/Wade/Carmelo/etc...

what's Melo have to do with this? what Amare knows about Lebron or Wade's intentions is anyone's guess, but the point if if neither of those 2 sign here, what was the point of the T-Mac trade?

The trade for Tmac was very well worth the gamble, especially because I don't see much in Jordan Hill.

The CP3 dig at me is stupid! Tell me is it all said and done? Just keep this on topic. The main argument wasn't if you liked Amare or not. The issue is did Walsh do the right thing regardless of Lebron or Wades final decision.
Many of us feel the Knicks had no CHANCE to convince the top guys if he didn't have the 2 Max slots. DW looked at his options and decided this was the best route. He's one move from paydirt but it's not under his control. I think he's made a great case for Lebron or Wade to come and his moves made this possible.
