The point isn't if there are diamonds later in the draft every year. The thing is how to you come close to being sure to find someone GOOD-GREAT. There are so many draft flops each year, so why would you want to put yourself in that position verses going after known productive players. It's much harder to quantify who you're going to get. Say you need a PF? Can you guarantee that the diamond in this draft will even be a PF? We have specific targets and we have the chance to go after them and convince them to come here. I like that better than just waiting and hoping on a non top 5 draft pick which may or may not pan out.
You really really think the next champion or STUD Allstars of NBA came from FA and deals from known productive players eh ?
I dont and cannot agree with that even partially.
Champion teams always drafted good/great players and eventually had chance to get to level and compete in NBA finals.
The Lakers did it with J.West. Early Celtic teams can't even compare since they won so many titles with Bill Russell.
Knicks finally won with Reed, Frazier and Bradley with Debusschere being lone star acquired in trade.
Same with Bullets whom competed on two titles with Wes Unseld and Elvin Hayes and winning once.
Same with Sonics whom won once with really no stars others Downtown Freddy Brown homebred sonics. Gus Williams star guard was
acquired in a trade.
The early BUCKs championship team acquired Oscar Roberton hall of famer but won a title with original draftee stud name
Lew Alcindor (aka Jabbar).
The Early Celtics and Laker teams won with BIRD, Mchale; Early Laker teams won with Magic, James Worthy and acquired Jabbar.
The 76ers was one of the few teams of that era whom acquired few stars in their prime with DR J. and Moses but with all their
great seasons and role players won 1 NBA title in their long runs.
NOW Look at recent decades champions. Other than Kobe & Shaq whom was traded from their original teams all those champions
from the Rockets with Allstar Hakeem, from Jordan's Bulls to SPURs Duncan and Robinson all won with the draftees of
these players coming out of college.
Even HEAT got into the ring thing with Dwayne Wade when Shaq joined and by the way when LAKERs won 3 it was cause Kobe and
Shaq got pieces around them with the coaching.
You can mention the Celtics know having anyone other than original drafted Paul Pierce not winning until Garnett & Ray Allen got
there. But not too many teams dont' win with 3 Future probable hall of famers like Celtics got.
Now look at Boston? Won 1 NBA Title with Big-3 & out.
They got those players 2 of them KG and Allen came from NBA Journeys and I doubt they will ever win again as Celtics on the
fact that their NBA title window is almost close shut.
