You are right TMS, agreed
150%

One of them great pick players at #5 was the Sonics 1987 pick of Scottie Pippen (hall of fame eligible elect 2010)
Same 6 ring Scottie Pippen whom was draft day traded by Sonics to BULLs.

Of course NewYork Knicks gave up the #5 pick in a deal to Seattle in 1986, same Knicks ill luck of today.
Knicks can't historically get anything right again until they win 3rd francise NBA Title.
Right we'll see that in our next lifetime, I hope I am wrong.

our overall track history in the draft hasn't exactly been anything to write home about, so who knows maybe DW is right in going this route... July 1st is gonna be a huge day for Knicks fans either way.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

you make it sound like guys like David Lee are once in a generation type finds that come out late in the draft... we're talking about TOP 6 OR LATER here, u telling me it's rare to get great players in that range in the draft? stop talkin' foolishness.

The point isn't if there are diamonds later in the draft every year. The thing is how to you come close to being sure to find someone GOOD-GREAT. There are so many draft flops each year, so why would you want to put yourself in that position verses going after known productive players. It's much harder to quantify who you're going to get. Say you need a PF? Can you guarantee that the diamond in this draft will even be a PF? We have specific targets and we have the chance to go after them and convince them to come here. I like that better than just waiting and hoping on a non top 5 draft pick which may or may not pan out.

You really really think the next champion or STUD Allstars of NBA came from FA and deals from known productive players eh ?

I dont and cannot agree with that even partially.

Champion teams always drafted good/great players and eventually had chance to get to level and compete in NBA finals.
The Lakers did it with J.West. Early Celtic teams can't even compare since they won so many titles with Bill Russell.
Knicks finally won with Reed, Frazier and Bradley with Debusschere being lone star acquired in trade.

Same with Bullets whom competed on two titles with Wes Unseld and Elvin Hayes and winning once.
Same with Sonics whom won once with really no stars others Downtown Freddy Brown homebred sonics. Gus Williams star guard was
acquired in a trade.

The early BUCKs championship team acquired Oscar Roberton hall of famer but won a title with original draftee stud name
Lew Alcindor (aka Jabbar).

The Early Celtics and Laker teams won with BIRD, Mchale; Early Laker teams won with Magic, James Worthy and acquired Jabbar.
The 76ers was one of the few teams of that era whom acquired few stars in their prime with DR J. and Moses but with all their
great seasons and role players won 1 NBA title in their long runs.

NOW Look at recent decades champions. Other than Kobe & Shaq whom was traded from their original teams all those champions
from the Rockets with Allstar Hakeem, from Jordan's Bulls to SPURs Duncan and Robinson all won with the draftees of
these players coming out of college.

Even HEAT got into the ring thing with Dwayne Wade when Shaq joined and by the way when LAKERs won 3 it was cause Kobe and
Shaq got pieces around them with the coaching.

You can mention the Celtics know having anyone other than original drafted Paul Pierce not winning until Garnett & Ray Allen got
there. But not too many teams dont' win with 3 Future probable hall of famers like Celtics got.

Now look at Boston? Won 1 NBA Title with Big-3 & out.
They got those players 2 of them KG and Allen came from NBA Journeys and I doubt they will ever win again as Celtics on the
fact that their NBA title window is almost close shut.

Now some will fire back and say well if players can be found that good past pick 5 then what's the big deal? While a point can be made our Pres/GM qualified at what pick the player will be a "GOOD PLAYER" and he didn't go past 5. Obvious reason why he chose such a parameter He's saying the only chance a player can equal the potential signings this summer if that player is picked 5 and above. <------This is what makes his statement ludicrous.

Dont forget 2nd rnd picks like Sam Cassell whom won 2 of his 3 NBA rings with Rockets of Hakeem O.
All Rockets Hakeem had was Kenny 'jet' Smith and some late 1st round journeyman Otis Thorpe. But
the chemistry their gave them 2 titles in a 3 year run as NBA Champions.

Fact of matter is Rockets super stud HAKEEM led the show. You have to have that.
No single team is going to acquire a top 5 or top 10 player in a trade until that player
is old or hurt Or not the same player anymore as we've seen with T-Mac (Knicks), once top 10 player
for awhile in NBA.

Fact of matter is Knicks need their own leading man.
Fact of matter is NY needs to mimic success of every team in NBA.
