The thing I don't like is how behind it the media is. They're always wrong. We gave up a lot for not being able to wait ONE YEAR for JJ and Eddy to expire. If we strike gold, fine. Otherwise it's a really bad move.
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

Let me ask you what was really the alternative to doing this? Would that alternative offer any more assurance of providing a Championship caliber team? Cuz in this scenario we could conceivably end up with two top tier talents next season. what other scenario could offer up such a best case? We don't have a pick this year, hoping for a top pick in 2011 would mean waiting and losing big another year to see if that kid could help us in 2012. Outside of picking up these great FA's what else works short of having to wait 2-4 years? LIke it or not this big risk is the best option.

Entirely true. Have to pay through the nose for a possible quick fix. 2 to 4 years is too long. Been hearing that since 2004.

"I thought it was a good bet, but I'm not going to limit it to just this year. In other words, this puts the franchise in a position where it can build a contending team. That's what the goal was."

"Where we got it to [before the McGrady trade] I thought was realistic, but to add this onto it is a little more than I thought we could do. I never said we were after two max [players], and I didn't know if it would add up to that, but this could now, I guess."

"I don't know who is going to be out there. I know what the free agent list is, and as soon as we get to it, we'll be prepared," Walsh said, "and if you don't get 'em this year, then maybe I won't be here but it'll be better for the guy coming in next."

From http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/13615/walsh-exceeded-his-own-cap-clearing-expectations

So all I'm saying is that if you are getting hyped for this "2 Max FA" plan we supposedly all want, we are getting hyped off of words that aren't coming out of Donnie's mouth.

If we don't get the 2 max top FA in 2010, then we didn't need to trade Jeffries. His contract expires next year....as does Curry's. We could have kept Hill and all of our draft picks. This seemed like the smarter way to have gone at the deadline since the other teams were demanding way above market price. Jeffries has only 1 freaking year left at $6.8 mil.

Also, I am concerned with Donnie's remark that

"if you don't get 'em this year, then maybe I won't be here..."

Why would he leave when he was signed for 4 years and has only been here less than 2 years?
IMO, I think Dolan was involved in pushing to accept the Jeffries trade at any cost, and Donnie is fed up with Dolan. Just speculation but Donnie is known to be conservative - he isn't an "All in" type of guy gambling with giving picks with virtually no protection. Anyway, it is done so now we can only hope and pray.

what Donnie is doing here is leaving open the possibility that we don't necessarily end up with Lebron & Wade or Bosh... he's focusing on the "flexibility" word, which basically means he wants to keep every other option open... but i think every Knick fan at this point is completely invested in the expectation that Lebron & 1 other top FA will be coming here this summer, otherwise this trade was completely unnecessary.

stop trying to hedge your bets Donnie... it's too late, you're already All In... no turning back now... either u win the whole pot or you go bust on this final hand.

He made his bed and he needs to sleep in it. It bought him 2 years. July is now right around the corner.
One other thing. I don't think Ferry is going to let Lebron walk, he will consider sign and trade if he can't extend him (Same applies for Wade, Bosh), what do the Knicks have to offer? I don't see anything, they are down to a bare minimum, if that.

don't forget about Eddy Curry's valuable expiring contract this summer.

We need 2013 protected up 5 to get rid of Curry's expiring. Kidding aside, he is available big body, he better get some burn, let's see what he can do with consistent minutes, maybe we can get a couple of top 2 protected picks in the draft

u know as well as i do, he's going to find himself alienated by MDA next season just like he was this season... he won't get any play... that's just an albatross we're gonna have to eat unless we trade him in some desperation trade for Gilbert Arenas if we don't happen to get Lebron or Wade to come here this summer... oh gawd, that gives me the shudders even thinking about it.

Maybe, if the Knicks are lucky, they can unload Curry is they include 17 first round picks!

I have a sense he will get minutes, sergio and Tmac will get him the ball. That was the issue with Duhon. Let him get used to the minutes, he will screw up a couple of times, but he will score and rebound, If he blocks shots hell is about to freeze over,

Curry's out til March recovering from knee surgery & then he'll still need to rehab & get his game legs back... i highly doubt he'll see much of any action for the rest of the season personally.

eddy curry will never play another game for this team and rightfully so. his contract will be valuable this summer with some teams scared of the cba lockout and economic teams. some team will dump a long-term deal on us. we just have to be smart and get the right one(s).
