wow it is true pharz..

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2010/02/17/monta-ellis-talk-warriors-turned-down-memphis-offer-of-oj-mayo-salaries/

* Trade market’s suddenly exploding today, and if I’m the Warriors, I’m a little worried about the sudden money flexibility developing in Clipper Compound. Anyway, thought W’s fans would like to get in on some of the chatter, even if it’s involving what their team DIDN’T do…

-Yes, the Warriors are apparently serious about holding onto Monta Ellis through tomorrow’s trade deadline, unless they’re knocked over with a monster offer.

They’ll keep listening. They have some interested teams. They’ve perked up interest by holding Ellis out last night and now tonight, explained by his minor knee injury.

But, by all indications, so far the Warriors aren’t eager to trade Ellis, even if he would be interested in a new location, if they’re beginning to realize he’s not a perfect fit with Stephen Curry and if Memphis is very interested in acquiring Ellis.

According to multiple NBA sources, the Warriors rejected Memphis’ intriguing offer of OJ Mayo + contract-filler.

This deal was first offered at the start of the season and possibly is still on the table, in Memphis’ view, and still rejected by the Warriors.

Now, unless there are humongous chemistry issues with Mayo, I don’t know how the Warriors could do much better in an Ellis deal.

(Well, I could think of one way–if the W’s could lure Rudy Gay from Memphis. Gay’s a restricted free agent this summer, so if Ellis remains a Warrior through the deadline, Gay is the name I’d remember for a trade in July/August.)

Mayo is 6-4 and listed at 210 pounds, 20 or 30 pounds heavier than Ellis, easily. He’s explosive, long, and a truer shooting guard with some ball-handling skills who would seem to have a better shot at blending with Curry.

But Mayo, of course, is far from perfect: His defense, according to one source, has been “dreadful” this season, and he does like to have the ball in his hands almost as much as Ellis.

You can see why the W’s wouldn’t do this:

-Ellis sells tickets, period.

-His chemistry with Curry might not be great, but you have no idea how Mayo would click with Curry, either.

-If the Grizzlies are offering Mayo around, how great can he be?

-The Warriors can’t bring themselves commit to either a fire sale (dump every big contract) or a roster upgrade (trade expirings + young players for solid vets), so they’ll stay in their normal tread-water, scared middle ground.

-Yes, this deal would dump the remaining $44M and 4 years left in Ellis’ deal, with not much long-term money coming back, but if the W’s want to keep Mayo, they’d have to pay him eventually the same kind of money.

Again, much ado about something that won’t/didn’t happen. But thought some people might be interested to see what’s out there.

you wanna try and trade me? watch this.

i think that's asking a bit much with all the trade rumors.

i can't tell if you're being facetious or not but this is my exact problem with hill. if the trade rumors are bothering him so much, how can we ever expect this guy to nail a shot when the game is on the line?

he's not that kind of player. and he's a rookie who has not yet been given a defined role. with trade rumors on top of everything else, i don't expect much from him. it's gotta be tough being a rook, 8th pick in the draft and being rumored to be shipped.

if he's not that kind of a player and trade rumors are going to bother him then i was exactly right in saying i wanted nothing to do with him before the draft. i don't need players with a low motor on this team.

i would love to see him get more minutes and i hope he proves me wrong because i think he's going to be here for a little while so i want him to play well. i just don't see it happening and i think little things like trade rumors bothering him only enforce the point to myself.

lol... dude i dunno how many games u've seen Jordan Hill play in but one thing he definitely DOES have is a motor... he's 1 of the more active bigmen prospects i've seen in a long time.
