Brandon would have been a good asset on a
rookie contract, and an immediate upgrade on any of our point guards... he would have been as close to getting something for nothing as we could get.
Centers are in short supply but take a long time to develop. If our goal was to make our team look like a decent home for an upcoming free agent this off season, we would have been much better off with Jennings/Lawson over Jordan Hill. Jordan Hill might take longer than his rookie contract to actually mature into a usable piece... best possible scenario for him I think is a good Center but after his rookie contract is over... at which point he'd be competing against other free agent Centers available that year.
To me, this was a critical mistake in our draft strategy... knowing that we needed to make our team look good this year to entice a free agent, we still drafted a Center, and Centers typically take years to develop. Drafting a PG would have been the smarter decision considering they have a much higher chance to have a positive impact in their first year.
Rose is not the answer.
