Gangbangers? Who in the NBA is in a gang? Why wouldnt you consider that racist? Is what happened in Washington a common occurrence?

When Black athletes are caught in a negative episode, their actions are always made out to be representative of the whole. In addition, the actions are usually breathlessly exaggerated (peep the commentary whenever there is an NBA fight vs. MLB or NHL)

In my experience, the term "gang banger" is used for any idiot of any race, creed, or color, who makes it a mission to either be a part of a gang or at least give the impression that one is part of a gang even if they are not.

There is no racial connection to the term whatsoever.

Now, given Arenas' retarded personality, one whom some embrace as funny for whatever reason I will never know, I don't consider him a gang banger. I just consider him an IDIOT.

Speaking of which.. 60k owed to mckee? Another reason 70% of athletes going broke!

absolutely, carrying guns into the lockerroom is just stupid, no other way around it... carrying guns period is stupid, but hey, that's a broader issue we don't need to get into here.

for Crittenton's part, $60K to him is worth a LOT more than the same amount to Gilbert Arenas... i think he's the main culprit of this whole mess... it was just a matter of time before his wise ass sense of humor would rub someone the wrong way.

Arenas was foolish for bringing the guns into the Arena but I don't think he deserves more than a 20-30 game suspension. A knife/shiv can do more damage than a unloaded gun. I Media making a big deal about nothing. In the real world people own guns, gamble, and cheat on their wives.

but it's not nothing... it's against league policy, which could lead to a void contract situation. Even 20-30 games suspension is not nothing. That's HUGE.

if they take gilberts money away by voiding his contract, it will be a BIG deal.....cant say the media is making a bid deal out of nothing on this one.

lets say you were in your office and a coworker walked over to another coworker and laid 3 guns on the desk and said pick one, then they faced off.....even the gun not being loaded, you dont think it would be a big deal if you witnessed this happening in your office?

I can imagine it. This story is just blown out of proportion. Bringing the guns too the Arena was 100% wrong but at the end of the day what was he going to do with an unloaded gun? Throw it at him?

He'd only get that much because the media has run wild with it. They painted the situation as if Arenas and Crittenton were on a street corner and pulled out loaded pistols on each other. I own a glock(legally) and it is pretty much useless with no bullets in it.

The melee in Detroit was a millions times worse than this could ever be.

Arenas is a douche for trying to mess with a young kid like Crittenton over what amounts to be a large sum of money to the kid & then trying to bully him by showing him his guns... this guy needs to grow the **** up... when WAS signed him to that obscene contract i knew they were making a huge mistake... u don't tie your entire franchise's future to a guy like that.

I think you're missing the point.
Regardless if it was loaded or not, its a) against league rules, b) a violent threat.

You comparing an office environment to a NBA locker room? This is likely isn't the first time Arenas brought guns to the arena. Arena's punked Crittenton and Crittenton caught feelings. Once again situation could have easily been diffused except Crittenton was feeding into it and playing right along with Arenas. If Crittenton had been the adult in this situation with a guy who is clearly not mature we would have never heard of this story. Again this was the same fool who loaned Arenas the 60K in the first place so I think they are a little closer than the media portrays.

I have no issue with him being punished for breaking the league's rules. I have an issue with the media portraying the situation as a shoot out at the O.K. Corral.

An unloaded gun is as much a threat as a rock.

Who ever said it was only Arenas' fault? They'll likely both be suspended.
And yes, what difference does it make if its an office or an NBA locker room?

What may be worse is the DC investigation.

In Washington DC you must register every gun you own with the city even if you have registered the gun elsewhere. After you do so? YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE IT OUTSIDE YOUR PLACE OF RESIDENCE FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER!

So, just given that? He's probably in some serious trouble. That is discounting whatever MAY have occurred between him and the scrub. Of which we don't know and will never know most likely.

Just the gun law violation itself could possibly land him time.

The fact that the NBA and the Wizards are deferring to the DC authorities (name your agency there are plenty) shows how serious it is IMO.

Just the possession of the firearms within city limits is enough for serious action by them. I would think, and sincerely hope I would think, that they won't sway to him being a pro athlete or celebrity or whathaveyou. It's a city of high ranking politicians. You bring a gun into that city you need to get taken down. At least...that is my understanding of it.

These guys basically live together for more than half of the year on the road. The locker room environment is not the same as the office environment. These guys have their little cliques or whatever and obviously Arenas and Crittenton were cool with one another.

i think Arenas is gonna get jail time over this... 3 guns = 3 separate citable offenses... he's toast... his flippant attitude over this isn't gonna help his cause either.

i think Crittenton will get a lesser penalty, but he can also probably see some jail time.

i'm not familiar with gun laws so if im wrong then too bad

i understand what gilbert did by having the 3 guns in the locker room is breaking the NBA laws, but is it breaking any other laws if he has a license for them and did not shoot the guns or anything?

I see Gilbert pleading guilty and getting a ridiculous amount of probation(5+ years) and alot of community service.

Plaxico could have probably avoided jail time if he didn't stone wall the D.A. for a year.
