Ask Not What The Answer Man Can Do For You, Ask What You Can Do For The Answer Man
knicks1248 - hold up, Mark Jackson is not suggested as the "better" option. What I am suggesting is that Jax could easily have produced a 3-14 record with the same roster of vagabonds. Work with me here. Jax also would not have been bound to any strategy that mandated a shot should be taken in 7 seconds or less. You said, and I quote, "even when someone has it going down the stretch, there's a dumb shot waiting" and I agree with you. Now, lets ask ourselves, is that "dumb shot" a by-product of a professional basketball player being "dumb" or given way too much license to hoist?
Stated another way (with tongue firmly planted in cheek) is "Basketball IQ" only restricted to players, or does it apply to stubborn coaches chained to a "one size fits all" system?
Contrary to pointing fingers at the sizes of players brains, I implore you to consider strategic options. I agree with you 100 per cent point on the goal to get 5 or 6 guys in double figures. THAT is basketball in its purest form. "Hit the open man".... Now consider, what would you rather watch with this crew.... "7 seconds or less" or, a hall of fame calibre lead guard like Mark Jackson demanding constant motion, passing, back-door cuts, and disciplined teamwork with a Princeton style offense?
Why would Jaz run this type of offense? (As oohah will attest, "Much fun!"), because THAT is how he played.
If there must be pain and suffering, why not at least be creatively flexible about it? Gimme the new guy!
Q. knicks1248 - Who would you hire at your company, the guy with 10yrs exp, or the college grad with no exp.
A. The guy with no experience, or college, except for a year as an apprentice with Lottomatica Roma in Italy
What do you have to lose?
