with Yao's max contract they are pretty much out of it. Even with no Curry they are at $40mm. That doesnt include Hayes, Lowry, Budginer or Scola. Once you factor in draft picks and roster holds it would be hard for them to get a high earner. Dont see how they can without giving up a whole lot. Most likely they will wait one more year till Yao's deal expires along with a few others

at 39 mil they can get one max guy. hypothetically speaking if the choice is getting Bosh vs re-signing Scola and picking up the option on hayes dorsey than I'd imagine its bye bye Scola Hayes and Dorsey.

YOou ignored the other factors against the Rockets for signing a max guy that fish stated. Roster holds, draft picks. It is unlikely they would be able to afford a max guy.

brent barry is an analyst on nba tv
i believe pops mensu was waived a week ago
mcgrady will surely be renounced if he is even on the roster at seasons end
brian cook will likely not be back either.
keeping kyle lowry won't be the difference between putting a star next to yao
chase is making 2nd rd pick money which is likely less than a mil.

noone else to account for

the stop underrating David Lee movement 1. FIRE MIKE 2. HIRE MULLIN 3. PAY AVERY 4. FREE NATE!!!

Roster holds...for each empty roster spot unoccupied under 12 a charge = the rookie min is given to the cap. Next years will be almost 500K per slot. That's about 2.5M. With a cap of 54M that leaves 12M to sign a max player. Probably not enough.

ok but 12 mil does include them in the free agent discussion esp if that team continues to play as well as it has.

hayes is a team option
dorsey is a team option
lowry is QO

those salaries are not counted because the rockets don't have to pick up the options. so when you subtract the ~ 6 mil in team option players you get 39.7 mil
