I'm with you guys. There is absolutely ZERO chance that David Lee sits out.. none. The guy doesn't have a market so he can't complain about any contract offer he receives from the Knicks because that is his ONLY offer he has. He won't be sitting out.

You're right he's not sitting out because the Knicks will give him 8-9mm to play
would this be the disrespect your talking about? Letting him exhast all other options then giving him a one year deal higher than anything else out there? Lee gets a wad of cash this year and the flexibility to go test the market if he really thinks he's a $10mm guy.

Lee has been a victim of bad economics. Had he become a FA last year or 2 years ago, he probably would have gotten some type of offer. I am not sure if it still would have been what his agent is asking for. So that being said, his agent carries some blame here too.

Walsh has simply played the waiting game as is totally within the way the rules are written. If someone had come through with a realistic offer, then maybe Donnie would have blinked. The fact is no one did. The fact is NY has not disrespected Lee they have just respectfully disagreed so far. Sooner or Later, Lee's agent will agree to a deal. Otherwise would be insane!

But according to your reasoning, why on earth would he play and risk injury for $8 mil this year when he can get a contract worth at least quadruple that amount the following year? If he's playing for the qualifying offer of $3 mil and if hypothetically he could get $32 mil next year, that's a $29 mil difference and in your opinion that is worth sitting out over. However, if he's playing for $8 mil this year, then it's a $24 mil difference and thus not worth sitting out over? You lost me.

Because 8mm is his market value. 8-9mm $ is enough to retire with just in case of injury 2.5mm is not. It's a stupid conversation--David Lee will get paid here and he wont take the QO--David lee is NOT playing for the QO--so everything else is a moot point.

And believe me if there are ANY S+T possibilities that have even a 5% occurrence--the Lee side will take it down to the last minute before signing--this is where the Knicks hold his pants.

If I was a player in the NBA--I would look to lobby for only two years of a rookie contract and an additional player option. Guys are leaving too much money on the table

Is this really a widespread problem though? David Lee is one restricted free agent. Is Sessions not signing for his worth? Is Nate not going to get his worth? If there is one Ben Gordon or David Lee every year then i'd say the system is working. You can't design systems for the edge case.

If the NBA gives players an option on year three, then the players have to give something to the owners.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

a player option on year three would only happen if stern got another year added to the age limit, i would imagine. as kam said, the players would have to give something up.

Well if he plays for the QO, he will have earned about $12 mil for his career by the end of the season. I doubt he'll have many retirement concerns

Sorry Bonn to date D Lee has made 4.5mm in 4 years.

Hopefully he will average 18-13 this year and get 11mm per year from some other club. It will show our flawed strategy. I laugh at these guys calling D Lee a poor basketball player--he is by FAR and away our best player its not even close.

My bad if that's correct. I assumed the QO was comparable to what he made in prior years. Still no chance he sits out.

Sorry I took the same stance when we did not draft Amare Stoudemire--anyone who knows my posts history long back understands where I am coming from. I ended up right there and unfortunately I think this over-conservative approach will bite us and I dont like the young players we have drafted. So what do you want rah rah sis cuum ba?

yeah but now you’re even ruing passing on rubio?? you were absolutely hating on that possible pick before

i think the sessions pass really threw you over the edge. i wish i could have a stance on that guy but i saw him so little that i really don't have a feel. but i understand about 17-10-5!

i'm still in the "slurp" camp, with a shot at some big ass names in 2k10 dominating my thinking. i'm not upset at anything we do that detracts salary a year from now, and i think we're gonna land a big one.

What do the Knicks do if JD sang out of tune,
Would you stand up and walk out of MSG?
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
about a bunch of bums and coach D'Antoni.

Oh, I get by with a little bukkake with my friends
with a little bukkake in the Alba thread
Mm, that is until Walsh gets out of bed

What do I do when no defense is a way
(Does it worry you to be in the paint?)
How do I feel by the end of the day,
(Are you sad because you can't get Allanfan'ed?)

Oh, I get by with a little bukkake with my friends
with a little bukkake in the Alba thread
Mm, better than takin Brown-Saunders to bed

Do you need an free agent
I need a back page to love
Could it be anybody
I want somebody to love.

Would you believe in a love at first sight
Yes, I'm certain it happened with Isiah and AfterSchoolSpecialBury
What do you see when it comes to playoff time
I can't tell you but at uk.com we whine,

Oh, I get by with a little bukkake with my friends
with a little bukkake in the Alba thread
Mm, gonna try to take Kate Mara to bed

Do you need an free agent
I need a back page to love
Could it be anybody
I want somebody to love.

Oh, I get by with a little bukkake with my friends
with a little bukkake in the Alba thread
