I am more impress with the A/T ratio for him. Man maybe he should be running point on the SL squad.

He was for many possessions. Also his mid range shot looks like butter. This kid just has a world of talent--as in superstar type talent.

Vegas: Curry So-So in Debut

By: Yannis Koutroupis Last Updated: 7/10/09 8:58 PM ET | 4867 times read

Adjust font size:All eyes were on Stephen Curry at Cox Pavilion as he made his professional debut against the Houston Rockets. The crowd was eagerly waiting to erupt in his support but instead they spent most of their time booing the officials as Curry picked up four quick fouls in the first ten minutes. At the half Curry had just two more points than he did fouls, scoring six points on 2-6 shooting from the field. He finished with 16 points, but needed 14 attempts and six trips to the foul line to get them.

The Rockets used a lot of size and athleticism against Curry, mainly rotating the bigger James White and Garrett Temple on him. The two were very physical against Curry and it was extremely effective, which is why Stephen doesn't expect to see anything different from here on out.

"I'm sure it's going to be a point of emphasis for all guys down the road," admitted Curry regarding the physicality he faced on Friday. "I've had that kind of attention in college and I'll handle it fine. It's all about being comfortable."

There is a lot more than just the Golden State Warriors' summer league team here in Las Vegas. Also in attendance is the team's general manager Larry Riley along with head coach Don Nelson. Both were pleased with what they saw from Curry, although his final stat line was far from impressive.

"It looked like he settled into the game pretty well as it went on," stated Riley. "I'm sure he had some nervous jitters to begin with but he showed some real confidence as the game went on. He understands the game to a certain degree and he's going to keep learning it more and more. I thought overall it was a good performance for him."

View Yannis Koutroupis Archive Curry is far from a veteran at the point guard position, even though he was the primary ball handler at Davidson this past season. The Warrior coaching staff wants Curry to use this time to continue his development as a lead guard since he will be expected to handle those duties along with Monta Ellis once the regular season begins.

"They want me demanding the ball, being a point guard," explained Curry. "Defensively they want me running through ball-screens and locking down my man as well as being able to help."

Stephen finished with just three assists largely because of his lack of familiarity with his teammates and some cold shooting. As the camp continues his assists numbers will undoubtedly rise because of the style of play, which he's already fallen in love with despite his short time with the team.

"They told us the first ten minutes we're not going to run any plays we're just going to run up and down, play off your teammates," said Curry. "That's fun for a player to here, for you to just take the ball and go make plays."

I want to see them let Leo Lyons go 35+ minutes for a couple of games--again he looked like the best player on the court. Big athletic mobile diverse and very skilled--he's a steal

8-22 FG (29 total points)
3-8 3s
10-11 FT
6 boards
3 assists
2 fouls
2 steals

I dont think 8 had much value in this draft it just kind of leveled off after 6 maybe 7. I will say the Warriors have two very exciting young players in Curry and Randolph that we could have. If they really had the choice to move Chandler for 5--what was the risk? It looks like the talent level is a LOT higher here than Orlando. I think Joe Dumars might have had a pretty good draft when we look back at it. He's got a lot of good skilled players there. There were some guys picked later in the draft--Summers Budinger that very athletic combo guard the Mavericks got all looked real real good. This draft mightve been WAY WAY better than procrastinated. The games that I have watched here have been so much better than Orlando. Maybe picking 16+26 wouldve been better than 8 once Curry was gone.

That is like if Crawford played in summer league, stat line. It's nice he got to the line but we all know he can shoot. Is he getting his shot off clear? Cause his first two games stat line is pretty bad % wise.

This guy I liked for us at pg and he was rumored, Beaubois: 34pts, 12-21, 7-12 3pt!, 5 rebounds, 8assists!, 9 fouls

All the Knicks had to do was draft Randolph last year and they would have a burgeoning star. He's just turned 20 and really he is proven all over the court. For gallinari to come even close to what this kid can do all over the court isnt even close.

That's why it is a complete joke. He only dished out 3 more assist. He is doing what was obvious of a small shooting guard trying to pretend to be a point guard. Shoot first and ask questions later. 22 FG attempts my goodness.

Evans is going to be incredible. He was the second best player in the draft. I don't think the Knicks believe that or they wouldve flipped Chandler for 5. Turns out they couldnt get Evans there anyway but if they were so hot on Rubio or Curry--it's right there. It's pretty simple deduction. Evans wasnt on the Knicks top 8 board[which is insane] and they did not believe he would go top 5 because the math with Evans in the top 5 adds up to one of Curry Evans or Rubio at 5.

or perhaps they did a little more math and figured one of those guys was going to drop to 8 along with Hill and didn't want to compromise Chandler.

I don't think Hill or Chandler is anywhere near Evans. Just depends how they felt about Curry and Rubio becaue Evans went 4. They must like Chandler better than Rubio and Curry

I think Knicks pretty much knew Evans was going to Sac and couldn't get a top 3 pick.

Did WAS really offer the 5 for Chandler or was it just discussed? Cause the deal with Minny seems better and WAS could have waited on the Hughes/Chandler deal until the trade deadline.
