Can we officially name it rebuilding? How long it will take to get back into elite of NBA?

Fans, really don't realize how low we were under Laymas. We still think that we were a blockbuster move away from winning. We still seem to beleive in the Isiah Thomas way of making an immediate splash, even though it doesn't work when you don't have assets. We finally have a GM that is ridding us of our funk and replacing it with short term contracts and young players and for some reason we don't like it. We still don't realize that you can't build until you tear down. We are still in the teardown phase. It will take time.

So you see it.

You see what I am saying.

Cool.

Meanwhile, just as a very far outlier in all of this: We do have a handful of intriguing youth, a couple of decent players that can be S&T'd, and ~50M in expirings.

If there is an opporunity to be had such as the Celtics of two seasons ago? We can and will go for it.

It just would not be in Isiah fashion I think. There would be three bonafide max talent players coming back for all those assets.

Whether or not so many players would be available for cost cutting and youth? Who knows, but, it just also illustrates that Donnie has put us in a position of power: If the opportunity is there it doesn't have to be about 2010 it can be about now through the Feb 2010 deadline. He could easily turn all those massive assets into an EC powerhouse just like that - if those "three players" are indeed there to be acquired.

And that's the biggest thing with Donnie: We have so many options with how we are currently structured.

That's a breath of fresh air. Whether or not he succeeds is irrelevant and unknown at this point. The fact remains we are in a great position to take any known path into building a winner for the 2010 and beyond seasons.

It can be a quick recycling of endless assets... it can be a 2010 major FA splash... it can even be a 2010 "Pistons-Esque" landing of several very good players all at once.

Hey, isn't the perceived thought on the Pistons championship team that they had no real superstars just four very solid players and a decent bench?

We can do that too.

I'm not judging this body of work until at least the late summer of 2010.

this is not an allout rebuild in the classic sense... Donnie is not dumping contracts for picks & any garbage expirings... he's dumping contracts for veteran players who he thinks can still contribute towards the success of the team in the present... rebuilding on the fly while still trying to compete... not exactly the same... that said i applaud his efforts up to this point but he still has a lot of unanswered things to live up to in my eyes, mainly on why he passed on trading Lee & Nate at the deadline last year when he had the chance... he needs to make sure he doesn't lose those 2 assets for nothing in return, cuz that would be disastrous in my eyes.

Nate and Lee being retained past the deadline could prove to be a backbreaker. Yet I won't comment yet for we thought when Walsh passed on the "Zach for LAC 2nd Rounder" trade that he shat the bed. When the Memphis deal of doom for Zach came around (jarics 2011, a 1st rounder maybe going their way) we really thought he screwed up. Yet, he found a way to get back in bed with the Clippers and get us 2010 expirings for Zach.

So, I still hold out hope he can do the same with Nate and Lee - maybe revisiting a Nate+Jeffries for expiring trade. We will see.

Thing is...now that it's 09/10 -- those 2010 expirings are going to be harder to come by.

And a Lee S&T is going to be very tough to handle unless the team he goes to can just absorb a lot of his salary.

he's painted himself into a corner w/those 2 guys now... we're no longer in a position of strength cuz every team knows we aren't really serious about retaining those guys longterm... everyone knows Donnie's got his eyes clearly fixed on 2010 & the FA blitz that year... Donnie's gonna have to pull some major strings to get full value in return for Lee & Nate now like i've mentioned before.

I think it's a rebuild to the fullest extent that we're able to go. Realistically, the only true keepers are Hill, Douglas and Chandler - two draft picks and a good young player that was already involved in trade discussion. Every other piece on this roster is either expiring (and will be allowed to expire) or pieces that are definitely available in the right scenario - whether we can move any of these players is the question. Even Hill, Douglas and Chandler could go in the right deal. I'd say it's a rebuild alright.

Finestrg - What about Gallo B Free?

It ain't a rebuild. It's a makeover.

Marv - if the Knicks can hire a Public Address announcer with some respectable ("where have you gone John Condon?")chops perhaps we won't need to suffer through the silly pronunciations every single time Gallo B busts a three.

One more thing, Gallo B is the key.

Marv - Mike D'Antoni made a comment about Danilo Gallinari hitting 29 consecutive jumpers during a recent workout to test his condition.

Just imagine what having El Gallo available at the three spot could create in terms of possibility.

You gotta believe

you don't know how much i believe.

one game i attended last season i watched danilo during warmups. he put up over 20 shots form various spots all about one step inside the 3-point line. he did not miss a single one. i have never, in my long years of compulsive basketball viewing, seen anyone do that. he's a freaking phenom, and if he's healthy, as i suspect and pray, we are in for a treat.

Ray Allen does this on a regular basis

This alone gives me a warm feeling inside.

If Isiah had realized there wasn't exactly a stampede to sign Curry and Jefferies and limited them to being short term mistakes it would be a much prettier picture.

Yes I'm blaming the past regime.

As long as we can avoid handing out any more terrible long term contracts or competing with non existent other teams to give away the farm for a Curry I am willing to be patient.

James Dolan is a lot of things but cheap isn't one of them. NY is a great place to play.

Hope springs eternal in a land where Shandon Anderson (FOUR seasons) and Howard Eisley (3 ) used to roam..
Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

"What's A Stunt Groom?"

Hope springs eternal in a land where Felton Spencer was once the starting center

(Ray Allen can kiss my orange and blue azz!)

Gallo B Free has so much upside that I think I'm gunna be dizzy looking up at those three's raining out of the sky

The more confident Mayor will be even better this season, 14 and 5 ain't a mirage - it is a modest preview from a modest yoot with multiple skills.

Jordan Hill plays at UNC and Tyler Hansbrough is sitting next to the equipment manager waiting for Roy Williams to give him a nod in the fourth quarter.

Darko gets Jerome James' shift spot in practice. Upgrade.

6'11 Chris Bosh and 6'10 Jordan Hill will be fun to watch playing side by side.

If Bips says it is so.....it is so

Actually that's a compliment to Gallo by the way. I think Gallo is a great shooter. If he can be 1/10th of Ray then we are more than lucky. It almost seems like some NY fans have given up on any type of development coming form Wilson and gallo. I think they will probably improve just like other teams rookies and first year players.
