He is a great pick-up at the 29th spot. Totally under the radar. I never heard him mentioned by any sports commentator. He fits perfectly into D'Antoni's transition game (as does Hill). Douglas' strength is in transition. His main drawback is his height (as a SG). Also, I am not sure about his passing ability. He could be good? Anybody know??

Just think, a few years ago he drafted Mardy in the 29th spot. Now we have Tony Douglas at the 29th pick. This is a huge improvement.

The thing I don't like about Douglas is that he's 23 and was a super senior... the guy can play for sure but I'm not sure if he'll excel at the next level because he didn't flat out dominate with his age, experience

That said I do love the pick a whole lot more than the Hill pick... and I'm not mad at that pick, just not excited

yeah he did

I stand corrected

TMS, as Mistearl said and I read it in an article earlier, they really liked Douglas and bought the pick ESPECIALLY JUST FOR HIM! The article went on to state if he wasn't there we had a taker for the pick for a first rounder next year. There is then no truth to the rumor that Minnesota F'd us with the Mcklintock selection at 28, as Douglas was the pick all along. Oh yeah, it aslo mentioned how he stopped working out for teams, guess we gave him a promise as other GM's said he was impossible to contact for workouts.

In hindsight I like him better than Mcklintock. He can score just about as well but is much much better on defense. Which is why I see him as an upgrade over Nate (and no mental issues as well.)

He's not a PG but he reminds me a lot of John Starks. A Hard nosed 2 way player. Not the best athlete, but plays harder than his opponent. He is really streaky on offense but on D he will guard both guard positions.

He did play PG his last year (or two) in college though. I know his assist numbers aren't good but read the system there doesn't rely on the PG to distribute quite like a regular system (or something like that).
You saw he was fastest and near fastest in two events at the combine as well as bench pressing for 15 reps. That sounds like a strong and quick guy to me...

With this selection, Nate daGr8 has played his last game as a Knick.

Hope to trade Nate for a trade exception and a future first so his salary is totally off the books for next summer.

Hope to trade Lee for at least one real asset and one expiring contract in a S-n-T.

Meaning we just freed up a lot more cash for 2010. Not having to pay Nate and Lee is huge, while replacing them with rookie wage scale players who may be 80-90% as effective.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

I think that's a big leap of faith.

PresIke & EMS, thanks, i think i needed that reassurance... i'm gonna give this guy an open mind... admittedly i don't know jack about his game, just what i see on these YouTube clips looks to be an able scorer... winning ACC defensive player of the year is very encouraging cuz we definitely needed more guys who can guard someone on the perimeter... i just hope we get something back in return for Nate now like a pick in 2010 & an expiring contract at least... maybe offer Nate up to OKL for Earl Watson & a protected pick in next year's draft since we do still need another PG?

Would you be just as happy if we can use N8 or Lee to get rid of fishlips and/or slimfast commercial wannabe Curry?

i wouldn't be happy if all we got out of trading Lee was getting rid of Curry or Fishlip's contract, but at this point if that's the best we can do i'd have to accept it... if we could get rid of both those guys using Lee & Nate, i'd be happy tho... that would give us the cap space to sign 2 max FA's in 2010 w/o any problems.

i agree. lee and nate are good players but with limitations. if we've replaced them at rookie scale w/hill and douglas, and use their contracts to off-load curry/jeffries for expirings (& picks???) then donnie's hit a home run for 2k10 imo.

I was just pondering over how we could get our hands on Rubio or Flynn (if the coach even has interest in Flynn). Maybe we could work a three way out as we can send Lee and or Nate along with cash and Mobley's insured contract. That might have more value to another team, but still allow us to parlay that into Rubio. A thought anyway...

Flynn wasn't on our draft board according to Walsh so he's definitely not gonna be the guy we trade for... it would be Rubio probably... i think an offer of Mobley's contract along w/Wilson Chandler for Brian Cardinal's expiring & Rubio might do the trick if Rubio really is serious about not playing in the NBA next year

the only problem I have with that is simple... Donnie could have packaged Nate with Jeffries already and now you're going to have to take back more garbage because Nate will make more

here's where i'm not so sure about that - any team that would have taken nate at the february deadline, or a year ago, would have been anticipating paying him at free agency - and without knowing how much another team might offer him. this way, if we sign him first, teams might be more interested because they'll know just what they're into contract-wise.

I think this is a guy who is going to have some trouble with his lack of length and athleticism. He doesnt really shoot it that well--defending 6-2 shooting guards in college is a much different ball of wax than defending athletic 6-6 225 2Gs. His As to TO ratio is poor. I don't see his physical attributes or skills that equal a good NBA player. We should never promise anyone--there were better players there.

I just listened to him on Mike Francessa's WFAN page... Douglas sounds like a really decent kid. Not that that means too much, but he sounds like someone that is going to put the effort in and treat people with respect and I think that matters for at least a little

I liked Derrick brown--that would have been target 1a at 29 for me[if something from the heavans did not fall] and lo and behold a monster falls to us and we skip it. The biggest thing we lacked is just mental and physical toughness. You have the BE player of the year there a guy who was putting up 20-20 games killing people--and we see what kind of success the Landry's the Millsap's etc.. are hvaing in the NBA and this guy may be Better than both of those guys. he has vice grips for hands hes cat quick for 275 underrated athletic ability a leader mentally tough--all the things you want on a team like this that has lacked those intangibles. All of s sudden you ahev Hill and Blair and we really have no worries about David Lee. This guy is a Shaq from the PF position. How he fell from the lottery to 37 is reminiscent of Carlos Boozer and imho we passed on the same type of thing. I was shocked he was there. Im sure more people had exposure to watching him play--adn by God did the Spurs hit the jackpot. They retooled with Jefferson and Blair.
Realistically if there is one person who is ready made right after Blake Griffin no questions asked its Blair. Go get rebounds and he will!

Blair's knees scare me... but maybe the 29th pick is worth the risk. Personally, I would have went for Dante Cunningham. But if Douglas killed his workout and coach thinks he can eventually be an upgrade over Nate and that means the team doesn't resign him, I'm okay with that.
