See, that's why some peoples idea of building for 2010 is so dumb. They think it's important to avoid building an actual team at all costs for the sake of that .0001% chance of getting LeBron.

If we use this pick on a good player, it's a good move. Simple as that.

Agreed.
Not to mention there's no guarantee the pick will actually be used by us. With all the crazy trades that happen during the draft, adding a late 1st or early 2nd is nothing but a positive asset.

No way, the Knicks grab 29 just to pick up McClinton. Screw Chad Ford.

Chad Ford's latest:
-- And with the Knicks buying the Lakers' pick at 29, I have them taking Florida State's Toney Douglas. GM Donnie Walsh is a big fan of Douglas, who is a great shooter and a terrific defender -- sort of a poor man's Ben Gordon. DaJuan Summers and Derrick Brown are other potential targets for the Knicks there.

If we are going to give up Lee at some point, and it would seem that we are, getting a guy like Brown, who has has better length (a crazy wingspan) and strength (3rd in the bench, despite a long wingspan) than Lee, as well as an outside shot and great finishing ability.

I rarely start a thread, but did one on Brown a few weeks ago. Seemed like a good, grounded kid in an interview I saw him in. I only know him from clips, scouts/analysts, and his Combine results, but he seems to be an intriguing player in terms of what he brings to the table. DraftExpress talks about his defensive ability, which is something that Lee detractors might find attractive. He has also improved his shooting, and based on his combine results on the bench press, he obviously improved his strengh- another DE criticism.

I don't know enough about Douglas, although his numbers look good. The fact that they are looking at older players like Douglas and McClinton, as well as Henderson indicates a "win now," we are not going to wait for young potential to develop, attitude, IMO. That makes you think that they would take Flynn over Holiday, if they have a choice of those 2, and that they might not be that interested in Rubio.

I don't think Chad Ford said anything about McClinton.

ESPN News reported that Ford and Katz believed they were looking at McClinton. Now he is saying someone else?

Reporters have no idea. They throw out a few names so if they are right they look good.

I hope we get Josh Heytvelt with the 29th pick. He is 6'11" that can run and shoot and is a very good shot blocker.

I want Patty Mills or Dante Cunningham at 29... or if Austin Daye is really sliding he's someone I'd want too.... or draft Nick Calathes because once he comes to the USA he's going to be good

2010 is not just about the big FA class. It's about starting over. It's about flexibility. It's about putting an end to recycle expirings out of fear of losing that roster spot because you're over the cap making you snatch up TRASH like Francis, Jalen, Zach, Marbury, Crawful, Curry, and on down the list of total failures here.

Anyone who can't see beyond "It's LeBron or Bust" just isn't thinking about it clearly.

We were going nowhere with what we had, you could not continue to add to what we had and hope it would work, the bottom line was it was finished and had to be torn down. That's what we are doing.

We threw our hats into the 2010 ring at the same time. I don't quite see the problem.

So we can't get picks b/c we can't start until 2010? Why was it OK to do it last year but not OK this year?

BTW, this pick isn't even worth a million dollars. It hardly has any effect on anything besides us getting another asset. So please explain why this is bad?

We should be looking to build a team at any time. Yes, keep next year in mind. That means don't take back big contracts. It does not mean stop aquiring picks and young players who are cheap in the NBA market.

yeah... next year our best bet is probably to S&T and we're going to need young, cheap assets to accomplish that

pick should be used to stash someone overseas be it Beaubois, Calathes, or half a dozen other dudes

That's the kind of pick we never make and San Antonio does every year.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

What? Where did I say we couldn't get picks? Where did I say acquiring this pick was bad? Where did I say we couldn't try to acquire young talent today through the draft?
