Thanks. I have a ways to go though. I also had to make some adjustments. I have to really really minimize what I eat at night now. Last week, I weighed myself every morning just to see what's going on. For a few nights earlier in the week, I had carbs at night, and I ended up gaining a little weight from it, so I stopped that, and ended up getting back on track.

That's going to be my next adjustment. Just watching my carbs. I'm certainly not going to to do no carbs. I need to keep the carb count a little lower though. And probably no carbs at night.

Carbs fuel your mind... so my advice is to eat the majority of your carbs in the morning, some at lunch, and very little at dinner. You'll lose more weight by cutting the carbs completely out, but when you inevitably break that diet you'll gain the weight back and then some.

Yeah you're right. That's why I'm changing my eating habits into a lifestyle I can go with for the rest of my life. I definitely don't want to be the type that loses a lot of weight and then gains it right back.

It's why I'm allowing myself to be stupid every once in a blue moon, because in a normal mans lifestyle, he/she can f' up every now and then, and they should. You just have to be able to take the hit afterward and prepare for the hit beforehand.

BTW, are you back in work now supreme?

Yes and no... I have a short-term, full-time contract to do a Department of Transportation grant application, but once the month's up I'm back to square one. And I've waited tables and such

I'm considering going out to be a po-lice right now though... financial crimes interest me (not to mention I'm PISSED at these assclowns that marginalized my education/investment) and the positions that interest me require two years policing experience, which I don't meet, but every other requirement I do. The US Department of the Treasury has many financial crimes bureaus and any fraud unit will have a finance slant to it as the motive for that stuff typically monetary...

So, the county I've spent 3 of the last 4 years living takes application early August so I'll go for that pretty hard unless one of the 8,236,245 apps I've sent out bears fruit.

And thanks for asking

Keep your head up. You never know when you'll get a call from one of those 5 trillion jobs you sent an app too. And I hope the police thing works out for you. I know a couple people on this board will instantly become your enemy though. lol

You're doing the best you can though. You'll get the rewards soon.

246 lbs. I had a rough and shaky beginning of the weight, but I suppose even though I only lost a pound, I managed to recover. At least I'm back on track though.

I've been doing a lot of research on this weight loss stuff because I've been considering reducing the cardio and start doing some weight lifting. I realized that while lifting is good, it's probably better I stick to what I'm doing. I couple of articles have said that you burn proteins (Hence, you lose muscle) when you do too much cardio, but I don't buy it, for this reason. Proteins are a last resort (Something I already knew), in terms of your body needing something to burn when you're working out. So for a guy like me, who has a lot to burn and takes in what seems like a proper number of carbs, for now, I don't think burning too many proteins is a problem. Or maybe I'm speaking out of my ass on this topic.

Regardless, I'm losing weight, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I do agree with Briggs on one thing. It's very hard to find certain threads b/c of all of these Alba threads.

Two things about bike riding. It's fun if you just want to enjoy yourself and see the town or site see or whatever. And that's a good workout too. However:

1) At the gym, the bikes are kind of boring to me and it also hurts and itches my ass if I sit on those bike seats for too long. A real bike ride is better so you can stand on the peddles for a bit, but...

2) No matter how much you convince yourself, you're still going to be cruising and breaking and you're going to need to slow down and stop if you go on a real bike ride. I feel that takes away from the workout.

3) I absolutely would take a cycling class though, just to see what it's like. Unfortunately, I'm always working when they have classes of any kind at my gym.

Like I said, biking is cool for once in awhile, but it's definitely not number 1 or even two priority for me.

My priorities in terms of excercise, in this order, are:
1) Gym cardio
2) House chores, which is mainly yard work, like mowing the lawn, edging the lawn, cutting the hedges. Damn right you burn fat/calories from doing that in the hot sun.
3) Basketball (When I get a chance.) Although, if I play long and hard enough, and if I have work that night, I'll skip the gym.
4) Whatever else.

^You're all wrong on the cycling.

Biking is fun because you go fast, go far, and you get a fun work out. Try sprinting up some hills and then you coast and sprint another hill. It's so awesome.

And you can ride through traffic and it's like an adventure.

Nice work man, I have moved to a healthier lifestyle myself since graduating from b-school in may and have dropped 20 lbs - 12 more to go to hit my goal of 200.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Marv. Maybe I'll be Cherokee Parks when I hit 200 instead of Big Country.

Oasis, nice job! What have you been doing to lose weight in terms of eating and excercising?

Thanks DJ: Trust me, I know how easy and wonderful it is to do that. Believe it or not though, eating chips wasn't my biggest concern. It was eating fast food. I ate it all the time.

Did you know a reason fast food is so addicting is b/c there's so much cheese in it? In cheese, there's actually morphine, which is a type of opiate, which triggers our opiate receptors in our brains, which causes addiction. It's literally the same deal with heroin, just not instantly as drastic, but in the long term, it's just as dangerous. Just in different ways.

To top it off, sugar and caffeine is also in your fast food meals, which are also addictive substances. All 3 of those together = ugly combination.

Well I went to the Dr. in May and learned my cholesterol was above 300 points - family history of it being high and mine jumped 100 points in 2 years. So I decided to get healthy and I am also on a statin.

Diet wise I cut out a lot of cheese, still have it on occasion but not often. Cut out butter, cook with only olive oil. Eat vegetarian meals, meat wise I stick to chicken and turkey, red meat only once in a while and I try to get as many fruits and veggies in as I can. Limit eating out to twice per week, usually one lunch and one dinner. Allow myself to have things I want if I have been good for a week - so when I go out I usually eat what I want within reason and dont worry about it. I also dont drink a lot of alcohol and I make sure I am getting at least 8 cups of water per day.

Exercise wise - I have a courier job right now since I just graduated from business school and cant land a serious gig - I walk 1-2 miles during the day and then I hit the gym 4 days a week. I do 30 minutes of cardio on a regular basis during these 4 days, try to make 2 days running and the other two low impact cardio. I lift weights usually once per week and sometimes twice - just do a circuit and dont lift heavy, just trying to keep muscles and not lose too much. I do about 30 pullups with the weight assist set at 80 lbs, do 40 crunches, 40 leg lifts. Stay at the gym for about an hour.

I wouldnt say my program is anything special, its just trying to eat healthy and get exercise - not overdoing it so it has been easy to follow and maintain. From time to time I slip and eat bad but I get back on track and have had some great success. My cholesterol is down to 134 and the 20 lbs weight loss has me feeling great. I would like to get to 200 and maintain it and at that weight I might be able to get off the statins.
