only automatic advancement was japan since they won it in 2006. they lost 2 games already but it they get an automatic semifinal placement.

the US have a killer pool in the semifinals - japan will have to only beat korea.

Korea already won their pool & split 2 games w/Japan... i think Cuba is also in their 2nd round pool.

i think pharezone just called all asians ugly. that's messed up man. tms is one of the ugliest people on earth...but not all asians look like him.

That was an ugly series to watch.

the base running was horrific in the last game, but both teams play very good defense & have good solid pitching... Korea also won the Gold at the last Olympics so don't sleep on how good they are... they don't even have their best hitter w/them this year, Seung Yeop Lee... he was their big bopper in the last WBC but isn't playing in this go around... contrast that to the Japan team who have several major leaguers on their roster, as do the Venezuelan, Dominican, Puerto Rican & American teams.

yeah, the us has to play the winer of pr vs dr/netherlands, right?

as for the setup?

how about the way UEFA champions league works with random matchups or something to set up who you play?

each team gets one game at home. however, to avoid ties, runs scored on the road are worth an extra run.

so if you win at home 1-0 and then lose on the road 1-0 (or vice versa) you play sudden death every half of an inning until a run is scored, even if on the road?

now that would be cool.

btw, dr should be winning (based on one thing i saw) where ramirez (i think) was somewhat robbed of a home run earlier by the wind. that was wierd. he and the pitcher both thought it was gone.

no, the semifinal round is 4 teams in 2 pools, with another double elimination.

then the winner of both pools face off in the championship in LA.

Starting pitcher was great. Yeah, Korea was missing on hitting throughout.
