Nate the Traded?

Just heard from someone with intimate knowledge of the situation that the Knicks will send Nate Robinson and Jared Jeffries to the Sacramento Kings for Kenny Thomas.

The trade shed Jeffries' $6.8 million salary off the 2010-11 payroll, but it loses one of the Knicks' most popular players. Robinson will be a restricted free agent this summer.

Thomas' contract expires in 2010. It is yet another multiple-for-one trade, which opens up yet another roster spot and adds yet another expiring contract.

Donnie the Dealer has been busy today.

Did we definitely not do it? Alan Hahn is reporting it like we did and he's about as close to the Knicks as you can get

Yeah, we didn't do it, I guess, LOL.

I guess the Kings wouldn't give up something with Kenny.

I dunno, the Knicks needed to seriously consider this and I guess they did.

Now we got Jeffries contract still AND have to face re-signing Nate? I guess there's always the draft day trades to make moves though. As long as Jeffries doesn't go down in a heap again as he's prone to doing.

Thank God! That was way to high a price to pay for 7 mil in cap space

We wouldve lost any chance at the playoffs if we lost Nate for crp. Resign Nate.

We could have lost any chance at building a winning team in 2010 if Jeffries goes down or nobody looks to trade him - and we are now pressured to not just re-sign Lee, but sign Nate, and if we do and still have Effries/Curry - we might not even be able to score 1 max guy if we hold onto everyone else we have.

So, well, it might be a hindsight situation where it was best to part with the talent to ensure the 7M cap space (Effries) -AND- not having whatever we pay Nate (6M per?). So it's kinda a 13M hit roughly in 2010 by not doing this.

Still, there's the draft, the summer, and next years deadline, and if we pick up a 2010 pick along the way somewhere then the 2010 draft, to get moves done to clear the space we want for July 2010.

Still, it's one offer that was turned down. Let's hope there's another we can get for Jared Jeffries.

Yeah, the other deals today wouldn't have made any sense if we traded Nate. They were a wash in terms of money and were basically made to give us a push into the playoffs.

walsh learned from the Randolph deal. He could have gotten more for Zach. he's not giving anymore players away --- no more charity.

on the other hand, those trades would have made it easier to afford to lose a guy like Nate. Thank god we didn't though. Nate is my favorite player

Really? So if Randolph stayed here, continued to gun away like a selfish moron breaking offensive plays, sat out 6 weeks injured, then punched out Admunson in a Knick uniform.... Donnie's phone lines would have been burning up with a better offer?

Come'on. The guy got traded for absolute trash twice already in his career and to be honest with good reason.

If Mobley had been healthy you'd seen a much better Knick team as we were basically down a starting 2Guard and you probably wouldn't still be thinking we could have gotten more for Zach.

We dumped Zach and Crawford at JUST the right time.

I hope we're not saying we had a chance to dump Nate and Jeffries at just the right time and failed to. I hope not. Kings should have given up something back though - a pick - a young player - something there.

Man that would have been a bad deal and spoiled what was looking like a solid trade deadline for us. Hughes sucks but he can play defense at the 2 guard spot, which is something we lacked. Wilcox is a very nice player to add and see what he can do. We have been talking on this board about acquiring Wilcox for 2 years, so it will be interesting to see if he can produce in MDA's system.
