Webster has a broken foot and a new long term contract that far exceeds 2010 and Frye is something you take back for spot duty.
Webster's foot will get better and his contract is modest. 4yr/20mill that is by no means a salary cap killer and he would make a nice addition to the SG spot for us. Frye I agree with you on, but he's being brought back to make the deal work.
Webster was on the verge of coming back but went out again last Sunday after only 5 mins. against Toronto. He needs more time - the stress fracture in his foot hasn't healed yet. As far as injuries go, I'm no doctor, but I'd be willing to bet that it's not as severe as a back or knee problem. He should heal up fine. He did just get a new deal that's quite modest given his potential. A 22 yr. old (don't forget this is a young dude who came right outta HS and then hasn't gotten consistent PT since joining the league) with his 6'7" height, shooting touch and the new modest contract with the idea that he'd be given more minutes in a D'Antoni system than he's gotten so far in Portland - how could you not be intrested in that?? And I also think you're selling Sergio Rodriguez short too. Come on bro, "a scrub?" No way. This kid has nice ability and the right frame of mind when it comes to actually running a club and being the quarterback out on the court. Another guy that would greatly benefit from increased PT. I'm not saying he'd come here and be Magic Johnson but he can play. He's exciting and probably possesses some of the best court vision and passing skills I've ever seen. Now having said that, any potential deal with Portland has to start with Jerryd Bayless - you shoot for Bayless and be happy with Rodriguez if you're Donnie. Admittedly, Bayless is the better all-around talent and the guy I wanted the Knicks to draft. And Frye too - never loved him and his soft style of play given his impressive physical package but there's no denying that he's at least got some decent talent offensively. If there's one coach in the league that could figure out how best to use Frye and get the most out of him, it's D'Antoni. I betcha right now, D'Antoni would say that Frye's more of his type of big man than David Lee anyway, even with Lee putting up the good numbers.
