We really don't need to focus on Duhon anymore, cuz he's not the source of our problems. It's getting Jamal and Nate to a similar level of effectiveness. Nate in particular, since he comes off the bench to take the point. I'd like to see him continue to improve on his decision making. He can be so dynamic as a penetrator, that i'd like to see a bit more of that from him. He can use penetration to break down the D and setup others. If we spread the floor and let him operate I think he can drive at will.
Jamal I don't think will ever get to the point that we'd like him to get to. I think he's just not wired to drive and has mental lapses which lead to taking tough jumpers. IF he could just think drive and attack a bit more each game it would make such a huge diff. I remember he had a stretch when he was going strong to the hole and he was either scoring on floaters or getting to the line and it was a good thing to see. He's got to work that back into his game. It can't be just 3pt'ers.
The difference between Duhon and the others on this team is less about playmaking and penetration and more about understanding the pace of the game. When to speed it up and when to slow it down. When to calm things down and reset etc. It's the nuances that separates Duhon from even Steph. It's a difficult thing to learn. I think we will see slight improvements in this area from one or both, but learning the PG position for a scorer is a difficult thing. Long-term maybe you have to look for a back-up(true PG) to Duhon, or move Duhon to the back-up for a young stud and then eventually you will have to move one of Jamal and Nate. If you want balance I think they are both very similar players. HOt and cold, can take over games, can hurt your team, can play the point and SG. We may be better off with one of them and a bigger SG that can play some serious d.
