Seems like more & more of you are willing to trash the plan to get under the cap in 2010 in favor of targetting players like Vince & G Wallace right now. I think it's time for everyone to man up & pick a side... either u wanna keep dumping bad contracts & target cap flexibility in 2010 to go after guys like Lebron, Bosh, Wade, Amare, Dirk, etc., or you wanna go for the quick fix & cash in on another starphuch type trade to try & win more games right now in order to target the playoffs this season. Which is it cacas??? Man Up & be counted! y'all can pat urselves on the back all u want & have bragging rights if ur way ends up bringing this franchise more longterm success than the other side... i don't wanna see any gay-azz hedging type answers like "well, i wanna get under the cap in 2010, but i also wanna trade for Gerald Wallace right now"... sorry doodies, that don't cut it.
Be patient, dump bad contracts, accumulate draft picks & get under the cap by 2010!
The hell with cap space, I'm sick of the losing... I wanna win now!!!

I'm for being responsible with the contracts that we take on 2010 or no 2010.

that's the only thing u need to decide... i'm putting u on the pro 2010 list, cuz that's basically what the plan is calling for.

How are we defining the Anti-2010 group? Because, to me, this poll should have another option- and that is for folks who think all this talk of 2010 saving us is garbage.

I posted a thread about this 2010 being a myth, and that we are 5 years away.

I don't see how we can build an attractive/strong/complimentary foundation for LeBron or anyone else available in 2010 AND to have cap room to offer a max deal.

The best course of action this franchise could take is to trade every attractive asset we have before the deadline this year for draft picks and ending deals/young players, and lose games like no one's business and position ourselves to win the lotto.

Then, maybe we'll be on the right footing.

Unless we are so good as to trigger sending the pick to Utah this year (protected to spot 22, which last year was Orlando with 52 wins), there is no point to winning, except to improve the value of players we should trade.

basically by ur words ur in favor of the 2010 plan... forget about Lebron & the other names... it's about giving us options & developing our youth while being responsible w/the cap... otherwise u don't give a rat's arse about the cap & are willing to take on more bad contracts to try & win now... it's not that complicated.

Caproom gives you the option

a) of having serious talks with a free agent since you can offer him a competitive offer. The other team will have to take you serious and discuss possible sign and trade options or risk losing their free agent for nothing.

b) having caproom gives you options

- trades don't have to be equal in what salary is going out and coming back
- you can be a 3rd party facilitator and receive picks and such to help make trades happen
- 2011 is one hell of a free agency yr as well

c) Donnie didn't start on his first press conference with emphasizing caproom in 2010 for nothing. It's not only for the free agency valhalla of LBJ, Dwyane and Bosch. It also provides a clear cut argument to help clean house, to avoid being bogged down by big contract while we're not going anywhere. Even without the marquee free agents given our roster and record it's a good move to give yourself a timeframe in which you'll become flexible with your salary cap again and be more in line with the rest of the league. 2010 is for giving ourselves a Mulligan with hopefully some better results. LBJ, Dwyane and Bosch make it an easier sell to the public.

thank you sir.

Oh, I also want to man up that I think the Balk trade was stupid.
Second round picks are usually players that never see minutes in the NBA (yes, I know there are about 20 exceptions that you can name). You don't trade someone on a rookie contract that has proven he's effective for 15 mins a game for a second round pick.

The Balkman trade doesn't make sense on paper. He must have been some kind of negative influence behind the scenes. I know there are worse offenders still on the team, but Dolan's not yet ready to pay them to go away, while Balkman was an easy move.

the "Anti-2010 plan" consists of what -- continuing on Isiah-style, trading expiring contracts for B-grade talent with suspect body parts or work ethic, never positioning oneself to land an A-grade difference maker?

continuing on Dolan style is more like it... Layden & Isiah both making boneheaded trade after the next in a desperate attempt to get to the playoffs every year when it was clear this team needed a major overhaul after Ewing was on the decline... seems to me some fans are perfectly content to continue on that route because they're just sick of watching this team stink, so they'll take a playoff appearance w/no realistic shot of winning a title over building for the longterm & targetting real franchise calibre talent.

The kiss my ass thread is in direct response to a couple of threads that take the EXTREME POSITION that I said can kiss my ass.

Come on with the misinterpreting thing. Go back and read the threads. Nobody misinterpreted anything. Maybe you left some things out when you wrote the threads. Probably for entertainment purposes. I can accept that. But I did not misinterpret the weeks and weeks worth of posts by many posters who talk about salary dumping for 2010 and nothing else as if there is nothing else to be done.

Look, I'm all for trying to get under the cap for 2010 (I'm still not sure we can pull that off) but at the same time, I dont want to sit on my hands waiting for a savior. Walsh himself said he wants to put a competitive product on the floor while still keeping an eye on 2010. How can Walsh put a competitive product on the floor and at the same time tanking for draft picks? And what Free agent will want to come here to play with JJ2 and Q? Remember, we are not the only team trying to get under the cap by 2010. Detroit and Dumars are more attractive than we are just on pedigree alone.

I still believe a Wallace for Curry trade can be made without hampering our target of 2010. Wallace is just replacing Curry's contract. Its up to Walsh to work diligently to move Craw/JJ2/Q'a contracts off the books. But Wallace's presense will make the product more attratcive to a FA.

So in essence, Yes I want to shoot for the goal of getting under the cap for 2010, but we still need to look for creative ways to improve the team in the meantime so a Freeagent would deem us an attratctive destination.

need some more definition around this.

what do you do about expiring rookie contracts? namely lee & nate. re-sign them or let them go? up to what would you re-sign them?

who's on your roster in 2010 that's gonna entice a major FA?

Let them go. I think you get a pick if you don't resign a restricted free agent.

I'm against the notion that 2010 is some magic target to fix us. I think we have a much longer and tougher road to trudge through.

But, being against the 2010 plan doesn't mean I want more of the same.

TMS, take me off that list. I'm not pro or anti. I would love to get LeBron, but I don't want to make so many sacrifices that if we put ourselves in the position to get him or Bosh, and don't. We'll be screwed after that.

I'm pro smart management and pro flexibility. Have the ability to sign LeBosh and if you can't get them, have the ability to make a great team regardless. Prepare for this without gambling.

Walsh knows what he's doing.

hmmmm, so I guess if we get younger and cap ready, we'll still have to keep a couple of veteran role models in Randolf and Crawford.

The President of the Universe (A wholly owned subsidiary of Cablevision, Inc.) has decreed that all self appointed experts must report to the Hall of Self-Appointed Authorities and turn in their uniforms before midnight tonight.

New, generic civilian unitards shall replace previous garb. One size fits all!

This Rule holds sway until 2016, at which time cap friendly basketball will be allowed until 2023 and the next Universal General Election.

The resurgence of traditional hard nose championship basketball has been postponed until 2059.

Please don't shoot, I am merely the messenger (doesn't pay that great, either)
