Yeah, the difference is the last 3 or four years Marbury has always played the good solider coming to a season and Blow up between games 5-16 in some way.

The problem with Mike D is he already nows Marbury, so it's like basically a convic showing up to the same judge for two different cases.

it's like clockwork w/Marbs... he's got the good soldier act downpat before every season begins, always saying the right things, how he's excited about a new system & a new head coach... how the latest acquisitions are gonna vault their team to a championship... everyone on this team has done that... Marbs sets himself apart tho w/his ridiculous behavior & constant distractions off the court w/the media circus that follows him around everywhere he goes... that type of distraction is not a help to a new head coach who's trying to develop team chemistry.

What has MARBURY done DURING the D'ANTONI/WALSH regime that he is the reason for all thats going wrong. He had no say in the benching. God forbid he came into the CLEAN SLATE ERA as a good soldier and now everything is his fault.

SO, did Marbury ask for the DNP's and the INACTIVE's or was that a decision that D'Antoni made and its all MARBURY's fault?

there's nothing on the apparent surface that marbury did this year.

i'm assuming that d'antoni is reacting based on a combination of:
• his past exposure to marbury in phoenix
• the positive responses of phoenix players to marbury’s departure
• his knowledge, like all nba people and fans have, of marbury's reputation here over the last few yearss
• his observations of marbury's impact on his current teammates

So Big Snacks, Zach, and everyone else has a CLEAN SLATE but not Marbury? A move like this even caught Walsh by surprise. This is just more personal than business. If that is the case what makes him any better than IT? Just for the simple reason he is standing his ground? Well so is Marbury but again he is the culprit for standing his ground. His past has him in trouble this year, but Zach has been the perfect citizen during his tenure in the league? This just doesn't make sense from a basketball stand point. If he is really moving on then the roster would have to be blown to pieces. All I want to see is the best we have on the court and that is not happening! All we have in D'Antoni is a younger LB.

nobody else on the roster appears to be universally disliked like marbury. nor disliked by all his former coaches. steph has made his bed by alienating a long list of former and current teammates, coaches and gm's.

Being liked has nothing to do with his actions on the court. When he starts bringing the drama THIS YEAR, then lets begin to ALIENATE him. At this time D'Antoni has no reason NOT to put him on the court. His past transgressions have nothing to do with a CLEAN SLATE. Hell, even Walsh had the idea he was going to get some minutes.

i've said on either this thread or another that i would have been fine with MDA playing steph as a reserve this year as long as steph responded. but i also would have been fine with just axing him. not this way ,though. you gotta get him the F off the team if you’re not gonna play him.

EWING33BXNY, my basic disagreement with you is this - steph has done enough damage in the past to justify not giving him a chance this year, you are correct that he has seemingly done nothing wrong so far this year. but he's s**t at the kitchen table so many times that people don't want to sit down and eat with him any longer. certainly mike d. doesn’t. very possibly a good number of his teammates don’t either. they have that right imo. and steph created all these conditions himself.

The NEW HEAD COACH brought the distraction to himself by playing Marbury MAJOR MINUTES in the preseason then keeping him on the bench during the regular season. If he would have made this decision from the start then I would have gladly STFU. Plenty of Marbury haters (not all) were loving the fact that he came off the bench, contributed and played his part during the preseason. Now that he is not in the rotation EVERYTHING is his fault. I just don't understand, sorry!

i don't think there's drama between the members of everybody's favorite 60's motown band, the d'alsh tops...but it's just a little concerning that the communication isn't as open as initially thought...

i'm guessing this will blow over quick and steph will be sitting at home soon. but if steph actually laces them up and plays, then one can assume that the d'alshes aren't exactly on the same page...

i never said it was his fault, at least not this year... i told u already it doesn't matter if it was his fault or not this year... the point is it doesn't do this franchise any good to have him playing games for us any longer... he has to go, it's pretty simple... u just don't wanna accept that as a reason, which is ur prerogative but it's a valid reason nonetheless.

well a coach has a right to try out any combinations and rotations he wants in the preseason and then make his decisions during the regular season. but i do agree with you that MDA handled this very poorly. he and walsh are apparently not on the same page or (unlikely) are collaborating on some coordinated juice-card flexing of both marbury and the media.

My whole heartburn with this is I thought MANAGEMENT was going to start doing the right things. I have been a KNICKS fan for YEARS and its just terrible to see this ONCE PROUD FRANCHISE become the punch line for all jokes through out the league. When Dolan brought in Walsh and then D'Antoni followed I thought we were on the way to becoming a RESPECTABLE FRANCHISE again. Honestly I can care less where MARBURY plays this year, I will root for him either way, this was just a situation mishandled. AND once again this FRANCHISE looks foolish when that was not the case before.

no doubt, i hate what things have come to as well dude... & u gotta admit Marbury's been a huge part of the reason why this franchise has become such a laughing stock... it's not entirely his doing but the circus that follows him around is definitely not helping matters at all... the sooner we get rid of that nonsense the better.

Marbury is not the ONLY NONSENSE we have to get rid of though. I think all this would not have mattered if he wasn't our best player and what D'Antoni is trying actually works!

Isn't it funny it took 4 years to people to hate on Isiah and about 3 games into the season for everyone to jump on Walsh and D'Antoni? I find it hilarious.

I also find it hilarious, but as someone said on another site, knicks fans have a bipolar personality... LOL... Talk about beating a dead horse. Really makes browsing these forums painful...

the timeline as we know it...

- walsh says everyone gets a clean slate
- walsh asks steph to come into camp in great shape and compete for the starting job
- steph comes into camp in shape
- d'antoni names duhon starter right away
- steph plays all of preseason, about 20 mins a game
- season starts and steph is dnp-cd
- 2 days later he is inactive
- walsh says he doesn't know why steph was benched

the new york knicks - where disfunctionality happens...

worse happens in many other organizations. For refrence, look at the hawks during the Joe Johnson fiasco. One owner takes his money and leaves town he didn't like the trade at all. he and Knight were not even on speaking terms.

I am sure I can name many others, but this happens with professional sport franchises...

sure it does. but again, i think from knicks fans' POV, they thought this type of ish was over. it looks like mike pulled his juice card and walsh was sleeping at his desk for the past 5 days. meanwhile steph, surprisingly, has done nothing wrong in this situation.

A couple of things with this:

Are Walsh and DAntoni really "at odds" or is that media garbage?

What do the Knicks ever expect to get in return for a 22M dollar deal? Other than 22M worth of someone else's malcontents. If such a deal happened, we get crap back, multiple players, and Donnie "I don't do Buyouts" would have to waive 1 or 2 players to get such a deal done.

Why on earth was this not handled early in the summer where any other rational franchise would have done it?

...The only way you trade Marbury is if a team way under the cap wants to unload a 7M-8M per year player, with multiple years remaining, and can absorb the rest of Marbury's salary. Why that player would be good - you know anything other than a Darko - is confusing at best.

In the end it's yet another sad chapter surrounding Marbury and for the first time in his career it has absolutely nothing to do with him. Now it's the coach and GM (supposedly) disagreeing with how to handle a player.

You know we had a real opportunity to close out two bad chapters in Knick history this summer. Marbury for nothing - there is no harm in dumping a player in his final year when you want nothing to do with him and he realistically cannot help you win enough to warrant keeping him ---- and the Zach and Clippers deal where the final word on that is the Clippers apparently rescinded their 1st round pick demands, Walsh somehow was not informed of this, and the Knicks never called back and the Clipps went with Camby.

You add in an injured and questionable Gallo - and a relatively crappy player in Duhon...

....and you wonder how we could have already potentially made four mistakes --- two of which that ultimately would have had us on a much better path.

Instead we have now wasted time and opportunity and this may reverberate for as much as a full season --- putting us a full season behind in our much desired rebuild.

Kinda leaving a sour taste in my mouth but it can take up to 3 years to turn a team around so Walsh still has time to make good on his early mistakes. Also as I said how much of the supposed friction is true and how much is the media hoping it's true.

Regardless it's tough to watch this play out in a way that ultimately did not have to happen and likely in everyone's hindsight should have been handled over the summer.

good post cosmic, but really it is not a problem. If not for this drama seeking media and bipolar, miserable fan base, this would be a non issue.

marbury ass glued to bench, phased out, and either quitely released or traded later if feasable.

Focus on ways that this team can get better, and back the coach and Gm that are trying to get the job done.

Instead the media spends time trying to drum up BS, and fans spend hours whining about MSG, how bad we are, how bad walsh and D'antoni are and how marc jackson would have been a better choice..... WOW .... go figure this friggin city.. LOL

Marbury doesn't exist for me. When i watch the next knicks game, i am looking to see if they have better ball movement, if chandler is improving and if they are grasping the system. Also I am hoping gallo will play. I don't spend my time worrying about marbury and hoping walsh and D'antoni look bad, so that I can look like a genius in saying we should have brought in marc jackson or some other no experienced guy to get manhandled by this crazy ass city..

TKF, I wanted Mark Jackson.

Maybe this city would have manhandled him, but think about it: Jackson is from St. Albans Queens, Bishop Loughlin, St. Johns, New York, Knicks rookie of the Year, an All-star in New York, then he was completely turned on by the city and chewed up and spit out.

Then he showed up and kicked our asses for 10 years.

My point is Mark Jackson understands the dynamic of New York. He is New York. He would have been prepared for the media, the fans, and the drama. LB had been gone too long, he did not realize or did not care.

D'Antoni obviously does not have a firm grasp on what it means to be a coach in NYC and have every breath analyzed by the media. He did not realize that what he did in training camp could haunt him in game 1. He thought that he had a honeymoon period. He did have a honeymoon but in New York the honeymoon only lasts until the first loss. From watching his dealing with the Phoenix media I think he is a bit too reactionary for this town. A coach here has to stop reading the papers, and keep his cool. You can't start cursing the fans in game 1.

I hope he succeeds, because I really onnly care about the Knicks winning, but he better start learning fast. Because he has never seen anything like this before!

oohah

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

All due respect, TMS but you can't bring yourself to admit that the Knicks got worse when Crawford arrived. They basically went from a team fighting to make the playoffs to the biggest laughing stock. As one columnist pointed out when do people begin to look at the guy who was a main focal point on two teams that have posted some of the worst records in their franchise history. Also, both teams seem to play better when he was not in the lineup. Marbury is part of the problem but to me Jamal is the bigger problem because people still believe this guy is capable of being a better player. Good game Bad game Jamal.
I don't like to play bad rookies , I like to play good rookies - Mike D'Antoni

oohah, all of that is ridiculous man, with all due respect. All of this understanding NY is hogwash. Other than the Yankees and the giants recently, this city is full of self aggrandizing, loud mouth, obnoxious fans. If this were the yankees who won 4 championships over the past decade and a rich history of winning, then I can understand, but the knicks haven't won shyt!!! shyt!! not since what 1971/72? We haven't wont a damn thing, so all of this, learning NY, understanding how to play in NY.. Is just hogwash...!!! We need a culture change not just as team and franchise, but as fans!!! Learn to be patient, less judgmental, less agenda driven, and lets stop being so quick to turn on our own..
Then he showed up and kicked our asses for 10 years.

when? like the time we knocked their asses out of the playoff's with spree and Houston? or like his second go around here when we got him from toronto, chris childs busted his ass in the playoffs?

come on man. The knicks are not as great as a franchise as people in this city want to believe. We had some great moments in the 90's, great moments, I am proud of those days, but lets be real, what have we won? I am open to a new way, and new thinking, I know as New yorkers we feel we are these superior basketball fans, but honestly, I think have some knowledgeable fans, but they are the minority in NY. We have more fans who know less about basketball and more about being ignorant and beligerant and they feel because we had a team in the 90's that plodded , fouled acted tough and foolish at the same time, that we know what it takes to win. Ah, hogwash.. time for a change, a complete change. I am all for it, and I am willing to be a patient fan. Trying to find fault with professional, competent men like walsh and D'antoni is ridiculous, the remarks and pictures referring to walsh age and competency are childish and classless( I am not accusing you of this) and it just shows what type of silly, childish, entitlement filled, bipolar fan base we have here in this city..
