But on the open market someone will over pay and then the knicks lose him just like free agency in baseball someone will offer 60 and then you have to go find another big which you could have had for 9 million a year.

King1, which teams do you think will spend their cap space and overspend for Lee?

Keep in mind...teams with space that overspend next year probably eliminate themselves from the bigger FAs in 2010.

Most of the free agents for 2010 will resign with their own team. if all 30 teams save the money for 2010 and five of them move what does the other 25 teams do? I think you do it like portland get rid of the idiots and go build a team from there.

Exactly, no one is going to overspend for Lee, with the 2010 class on the horizon. Atlanta gambled with Josh Smith and was able to resign him for a reasonable rate. This is not a bad move by Walsh.

Don't you get it? The love affair is over. It's Knicks fandom. Gallo's the man now. It's all about Lebron and Gallo in 2010. Walsh promised it so it's got to be true. Knicks's basketball!

After seeing that Walsh and Lee's agent agreed to let the deadline pass without an extension, then I think that a deal can be done before the season is over, Lee really wants to see this team turn things around, he wants to be apart of it.
Contrary to popular belief, I think that Lee is one of those rare players who isn't in it to make a killing at the bank, he will take a reasonable offer by Walsh and stay with the team. Call me crazy but I do believe this will happen, it's a gamble but it will happen.

So now you want to throw away Knicks draft picks? They are not allowed to discuss any agreement during the season or face the wraith of Stern.

To give anyone on this team a contract would be rewarding them for the 23, 33 and 23 wins the last three years. I think this is a good move let Lee and the team prove they are winners, whats the point of giving these guys contracts if they prove to be losers.

Besides I not gonna give Lee a contract and jepordize a possible 2010 free agent signing.

DING DING DING! WE HAVE A WINNER.

Can Lee defend? If not, his upside is Zach Randolph. Once we overpay Lee, we're screwed. Lee deserves 7mil to start and he should play Defense this year if he thinks he is worth 10+. Players like Lee can be found every year, and in the 2nd round.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

If lee could defend he would be one of the top 3-5 PW in the league. If grandma had a dick she'd be grandpa. So, other than d you are saying that 2nd round has a bunch of guys like him. High bball IQ, superb rebounding, exceptional hustle, does not need to monopolize the ball to score, finishes with either hand, can shoot the jumper, great chemistry guy, best outlet passer on his team, shoots free throws better than most players in the league, WORKS ON HIS GAME AND ADDS SOMETHING NEW EACH SUMMER. Maybe we should just trade every 1st round pick we get from now on for 2nd round picks and pick up multiple guys like him every year if we can. Then we can trade them for superstar players, just gotta do like a 3 for 1 type of deals.

Paul Millsap, Udonis Haslem, Chuck Hayes, David Lee. Good players. Not lotto picks.

David West > David Lee

Yeah we know where the Knicks have been as a franchise. We know David Lee is their best draft pick since Patrick Ewing.

We also have a goal to get under the cap to sign some players in 2010.

I like David lee. 6 years at 50 million is damn good compensation for his skillset.

Top 3-5?!!?!?. He might be top 3-5 in the Atlantic conference. He has not shown he can shoot the jumper. Quite the opposite. Lee has turned into a good free throw shooter, not great. He is limited in his offensive skills.

You're overstating the player Lee has been. maybe you are making a prediction?

Kam's list of player's like Lee is pretty good. To that I will add Biedrins.

the 1 thing we should know about Lee is that he comes in every year w/a new skillset... who's to say he won't learn to be a good help defender someday? he's certainly got the desire & the work ethic to add that to his game in due time... he may never be an All NBA defender like Duncan but i think he can certainly improve his help D... what we really need tho is a shotblocker to complement Lee's game.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Udonis Haslem has a 54 million dollar contract and he is much better than Hayes and Millsap. David will sign for more than Millsap and Hayes combined.
