So long Renaldo,

I'll miss your little dance when your teammates score...

And the way you sit on the bench...

Party on dude.

Another Isiah situation screwing the Knicks. A #20 pick and we get a 2nd rounder for him...2 years from now.

On the surface I can't understand the trade, so I'm assuming there is more to it. Briggs is right, how many more guards do we need?

I'll assume that this was made for some other reason. Possibly some maneuvering for moves that we are not yet aware of. Or possibly it's something simpler. We all assume that when D'Antoni spoke with the players they were all over Marbs and saying "we need to get rid of Marbs right away". What if the players actually didn't mention Marbs and instead mentioned Balkman?

Just a thought.

I don't really understand the move from the cost cutting perspective though. Knicks saved about 1.2 mil cause they actually threw in 575,000 in cash to Denver. If they bought out Marbury's contract for its value less the LLE (or whatever Marbury could command on the open market) they actually could've saved a little more. And from a luxury tax perspective, they would've used the buyout amount, so it'd be the same net savings on luxury tax.

I hope they're not planning on keeping Marbury

if we are getting rid of balkman because he likes to party, hasn't improved his game and doesn't take practice seriously, will Zach, Marbury, Curry and JJ1 be far behind?

Bobby Jones could be groomed to be the new James Jones. Play some D and shoot some 3's. He did play a couple of game for the defensive minded, team oriented Spurs. That should say something... or that should say something about me trying to rationalize this trade. At the end, these guys don't have guaranteed contracts and Renaldo wasn't going to get much burn with the addition of Gallanari and the improving Chandler.

DraftExpress All-Orlando Pre-Draft Camp Teams
June 15, 2006
Solid as a rock would be the best way to describe the best perimeter defender in the 2006 draft. Jones wasn’t the flashiest player in Orlando, but he got the job done for his team every single time he stepped out on the floor by doing all the little things. Using his terrific height (6-7) and length (6-9.5), Jones shut down every single player he was asked to match up against, doing a fantastic job not only staying in front of his man, but also intimidating him enough with his quick hands and excellent strength and hustle to force him to give up the ball with his sheer peskiness. When given the opportunity, Jones looked quite content going down to the post to help out on the glass or even rotate over for a blocked shot on a smaller player.

Being the type of player who serves as the glue for his team rather than the catalyst, it took him some time to adjust to his teammates on both ends of the floor. He was fairly passive offensively to start things off, making some nice passes in transition and not really looking out too much for his own stats, but got better each day until his best performance in the last day of the camp. It was here that Jones showed off the fact that he shouldn’t be considered a strict offensive liability at the NBA level, as he looked for his shot more often, slashed his way to the hoop, scored on a pretty floater and a pull-up jumper, and generally made the right play almost every time he touched the ball, including making some more unselfish passes. Jones’ perimeter shot wasn’t falling for him at this camp as a whole just like it didn’t for the most part during his college career; he’ll have to work on his unorthodox shooting mechanics that never allow him to find a consistent release point. For the role he projects playing in the NBA, though, Jones showed his value here as well as at Portsmouth and likely solidified himself somewhere in the 2nd round. The strengths he brings to the table along with his high character and excellent intangibles will almost certainly land him an NBA job this coming season.

I'm as skeptical of management as anyone here, but I'm guessing that it would be wise not to look at each move in a vaccuum. That this is a process where a combination of moves will make us better and that each individual move should not be expected to bring us instant success. Now of course like everyone else I have a threshold where eventually I need to see return from these signings and trades, but right now I know these guys have been here 3 months and with Isiah's devestation it will take a variety of moves and strategy to fix this.

i'm guessing he wouldn't have gotten much playing time next year as Chandler & Gallo seem to be the guys who will be getting his minutes... it's a shame he didn't work out for us, i thought he coulda been a pretty decent asset in a run & gun style game... ah well.

Get creative. I don't think the Nets want to lose Nenad for nothing.

I like the Taureen Green pick up. This guy is a solid pg. He has the ability to knock down threes on a consitent basis. His D-League stats will show you he is very capable f filling up the stat sheet with his ability to get assists and score. I wanted him and stated in the past that he would be a an excellent pick up for the Knicks. Roberson I felt was a mistake I don't think of him as a very good player.

I thought their goal was not to add any salary...We can't make it happen without doing that, unless they want to take back a Malik Rose style contract. Should be a savings relative to their luxury tax to not take on Rose and just let Kristic walk though.

I agree. Balkman was one of the players, I felt, would have benefitted from this new offense.
