* Don Chaney believes Lampe, despite having no inside game, could crack the rotation next season if signed. "How the league is going now with big guys going away from the basket, he should be able to take advantage of the current status," Chaney said. "Now the way teams play the pick and pop, spotting up for 3s, bringing the big guy away from the basket, that's a huge advantage for him." Chaney isn't afraid to play rookies like our former coach.

Well if these rumors are true then I would be more then happy to see Lampe in an NY uniform this summer and then on the squad this season - but did you see Chaney's remarks about Sweetney? He didnt even give him much of a good outlook on getting minutes next season. Now maybe thats just the way he is talking now...but if I were the Knicks I would spend more time developing these young guys then wasting major minutes on role playing veterans.
When the Knicks introduced Mike Sweetney yesterday at the Garden, Don Chaney ranked his new No.1 pick ahead of incumbents Othella Harrington and Clarence Weatherspoon in the one area in which his team needs vast improvement: scoring in the low post. OASIS Get a grip man and stop hating!
I dont call that hating I call it being realistic. Wehn the Knicks traded for McDyess Layden and Chaney thought they were saved, he was ranked above everyone else ont he team - he has been a bust. When the Knicks drafted Milos Vujanic, they claimed he was going to be a star, but he isnt in ny now and shows no signs of desire to be here. When the Knicks drafted Frank Williams he rotted on the bench with the likes of Postell and Knight. But hey - if pointing all that out is hating then you can say whatever you like. I just dont think everyone should jump all over Lampe and Sweetney just because they got drafted. It is exciting that we might have new players, but Chaney didnt touch Williams who is supposedly good. I simply stated that they MUST play these guys over the vets in order to build a solid future. That isnt hating Playa - hating is pointing out that Spoon has no legit skills and a pack of hot dogs on the back of his neck

OasisBU, good post. But after the 99 championship run and Sprewell saying a year later, "get me some size"...This year's draft is 4 years in the making and a damn good starting point for rebuilding based on developing young talent. Couple the fact that Chaney's contribution in getting players to their career best performance should be a clear signal that this organization is heading in the right direction.
Chaney had to build player confidence considering the psychological damage he inherited from the previous fiasco. I can't think of too many coaches having their work cut out from the very start compared to what Chaney was dealt. That's OK cause when its all said and done NY's improvements would have been well worth the wait.

It will take a while for this team to gel and it will take more players as well. But they are on the right track with these picks, but as has been mentioned on this board and in many articles - this is only the beginning. I have faith the team will be good eventually.

Frank Williams problems was "CANDY"! The reason why he was so useless was dude was eating candy for his diet, yea CANDY BARS ETC... Then knicks strength and conditioning coach found out about it he put him on a strict diet and he showed some flashes at the end of the yr. Now with his "former" head coach in college there to keep him honest, this is his yr to show what kind of game he has. NY (the city) and media play just blew the young man away. That's why I always say everybody can't play ball in NY CITY PROFESSIONALLY. S. Haywood m. Ray Richardson and those was for drugs, this boy was "ODING" on Candy Bars.

pike , sweetney is a oakely with a bit more muscle.
Sweentey can't bench press 185 pounds more than 5 times, believe it or not. i am 5' 9 and i can lift 185 a lot more than that.
get your facts --------------------------
Troy Bell failed the strength portion of his workouts by only benching 185 pounds 17 times (had to do it 20)... if Sweetney can't bench 185 lbs. more than 5 times... we're in BIG trouble! lol
