When we kept Jones and cut Nichols, I thought Isaiah made a bad decision. But the way Jones is playing lately, I'm not so sure. Jones is a good guy to have on the bench.

Regarding Isaiah's trading a 2nd round pick to get Nichols, I thought he had an understanding with Nichols agent that he'd play a year in Europe. The problem came when Nichols fired his agent.

The mistake was never keeping Jones; it was keeping Jerome James, Malik Rose, Q-Rich, Jared Jeffries, etc.

You are only finding that out because Isiah is forced to play him, that could be said about Chandler too.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Exactly. Put it this way:
Odds of getting a good role player: Maybe 25% (just my estimate)
Odds of getting a good role player with picks you don't have because you tossed them down the toilet: 0%

It doesn't take a genius to figure out which odds are better!

Didn't Billy Joel sing, "Darlin', I don't know why I go to extremes"? Clearly some have that philosophy, or at least are arguing like it. It doesn't make sense to me either. Especially when there's still useless sludge on the roster.

Mismanaged assets? Give me a break! Who gives a rat's ass about a second-round pick? Second-round picks are routinely cut by NBA teams. Second round picks are bought and sold, and used as trade throw-ins all the time. It not a big deal at all. It means nothing.

If Nichols was ready to contribute to an NBA roster that would be one thing, but he isn't. WHO CARES?

***

Islesfan is the most transparent shallow person in the universe. The only reason he cares about Nichols is because he was cut by Isiah, giving him another meaningless thing to harp on like a special-needs parrot.

"Isiah Bad! Bawk!"

If Nichols was on the team Islesfan would mock and dis Nichols just like he does all the other players on the Knicks.

***

And here is where I get superstar from: So many guys here were comparing him to Allan Houston and the like. Many said he could be better. He was made out to be much much more than he is or is ever likely to be. There is no disputing that fact. A search feature would reveal all.

He ain't Allan Houston boys. He might not even be Byron Houston. At least Jackie Butler is a borderline NBA player. Say what you want about Fred Jones, but he has been a legitimate NBA player since his first day. Not so Nichols.

The mismanagement was on Nichols' part. I bet his agent is having a good chuckle now too.

Mismanaged asset? Kiss my asset. Get over it!

Amen!!! They complain when we win they complain when we loose. You are right!! If Zeke helped an old to cross the street they would swear that he was trying to rob her. I enjoyed the game tonight. Did anyone else enjoy the game??

Papabear

No, they didn't because they aren't great fans like you and me.
I just hope that people will like me

To make room for Varejao on the roster, the Cavs waived rookie forward Demetris Nichols. He played in three games, shooting 1-of-8 from the floor. Nichols is a project the Cavs took on at the start of the regular season by picking him up off waivers from the New York Knicks. The Cavs liked him, but he was expendable because he has a nonguaranteed contract.

''He has potential, but he's probably not ready now,'' Cavs coach Mike Brown said. ''It would be great for him to get some experience in the D-League or in Europe.''

No, Panos is more Renaldo than Milos.

Exactly, Nichols should have just gone along with the play and played in Europe. If the Knicks did not want him, they would not have traded a second round pick for him. If he had gone to Europe, IT would have made a spot for him by next year. In fact, I think next summer the team is probably going to think long and hard about waiving JJ1. We showed last night that the team can get by with him as the backup center, plus we have not even played Morrison yet. Nichols screwed himself because he thought he was ready for NBA action and he is not. I fully believe that after 2-3 years of seasoning, he will be a solid player, but he should have did the Europe thing, enjoyed the experience and came back next year. Now his going to have to bounce around the d-league unless he gets picked up by another club.
