Can we all just chill for a minute & respect the dead...

Don Sr. left an amazing NYC B-Ball legacy on the asphalt of the Garden (the one in CI not 33rd) & on the hardwood of Lincoln. For those of you to young to have Seen Eric, Donnie & Norman do their thing before baby boy Steph took over, you really missed it. "Bro" day tournaments in Coney Island are legendary & I know alot of people here like to talk ish like they know but so few actually do understand the game from a player's perspective or from the angle of a fan on the chain link fence (where you cant scream "hey Marbs you friggin suck dude" like you can from the safety of section 404 <<no diss to DJ,just tryin to make a point>> unless you got the balls to back it up).

Anyway, take a moment to pour a lil' liquor out for a true B-Ball patriarch...5 for 5 five sons, five playground legends

What makes you think that you of all people can tell anyone what is and isn't out of line? I think it is safe to assume the worst from your keyboard. Maybe this is a good time for you to apologize to Stephon for your cowardly 'cokehead' comments.

Yeah, because one has something to do with the other. Thanks for proving that your only problem with what I said is that you have an agenda.

Yes, your dragging Mabury and the team's events into this the night his father dies proves that I am the one with an agenda. Now you of all people have accused me and called me out as having an agenda. Goodness sakes.

I'm trying my very best to be respectful of this situation for at least a couple of days, so why don't we just avoid each other?

Take it easy Islesfan.

oohah

If you really wanted to be respectful, you wouldn't have called me out in the first place over something you agreed was a possibility.

The fact that you agreed with what I said, but still had to use it as an opportunity to call me out for things I have said in the past, that have nothing to do with Mr Marbury's death, just shows how much of an agenda you really have.

You've dragged me into this much farther than I would have liked.

Have a nice day oohah.

Isles allow me to interject and say he tries to put someone on blast again because as you said he's agenda driven and once again takes away from the core discussion at hand. If I were you I'd stop responding to him.

Nice post, and I agree. There's no need for the usual bickering here.

Then word got out that Marbury lost his father Don during the game, but wasn't told about it until afterward because the Knicks didn't want the word getting to other family members second-hand, particularly on the 11 o'clock news.
That doesn't make sense. They could have told Steph and allowed Steph and the doctors to decide when/how to tell the rest of the family. It sounds more like poor post-hoc reasoning to justify their actions

I agree. It does not. If that's the reasoning it's not even a valid thought because family members would have been calling each other with the news well before the 11 O'clock news.

However, unless the family requested that MSG not tell Steph (which I would find very hard to believe or understand), the only reasoning I can come up with is MSG did not want a public display - disruption of the game - whathaveyou stemming from the news.

I don't know if we're ever going to get the exact full story but the chain of events is becoming painfully clear now.

*Father suffers heart attack at half time, gets escorted to an ambulance, gets rushed to the hospital, dies either en route or at the hospital.
*2nd half resumes, steph is not informed.
*game ends, steph is informed, throws a tirade in the lockerroom, gets escorted to a car, gets to the hospital.
*(potentially) Family member calls WFAN and blasts the Knicks for not informing Steph and other family members immediately.

IDK - again, who really knows what's fact and what's speculated. I just know that something wasn't handled properly and it's leaving a pretty nasty feeling in my stomach.

Only with the Knicks would someone's father dying turn into a controversial issue. I hope the whole thing goes away as far as when Steph was told about the incident, but undoubtedly, it is going to become a hot issue once the NY media starts asking tough questions about when the coaching staff became aware of the incident. This team is really cursed at the moment.

This team can't handle anything correctly. What a joke of an organization. It's a crime that Dolan owns the team.

Again, RIP to Marbury's father. My condolences.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Stephon Marbury played the second half of New York's loss to Phoenix on Sunday night unaware his father had been taken to a hospital, where he died before the game ended.

Don Marbury was taken from Madison Square Garden to St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center during halftime, reportedly because of chest pains, but a family member advised a Knicks official not to inform Stephon Marbury at the time.

Stephon Marbury learned of his father's death from a family friend minutes after the game.

"It's a terrible thing that happened to him and his family last night," Knicks coach Isiah Thomas said Monday after practice. "For any parent watching their son or daughter perform, and to have something like that happen, anyone who has kids would sympathize with the son and you also sympathize with the family."

Thomas seemed a bit emotional while speaking for less than five minutes, and wouldn't discuss how long Stephon Marbury would be gone. Last month, forward Zach Randolph missed three games following the death of his grandmother.

"We as a family, the Knicks family, we'll give him all the support and try to be there for him and his family through this terrible time," Thomas said. "We just went through it with Zach and his family."

Marbury has endured an especially difficult time, on and off the court. He has been booed at home since skipping a game in Phoenix following a clash with Thomas, and an aunt died last month.

"I can feel his pain," Randolph said. "It's been a tough year on him, I feel real sorry for him and his family. Fans booing him, and his father passed during the game. It's tough for him right now.

"He lost his auntie a couple of weeks after I lost my grandma, so it's tough."

The day after the aunt's death, Marbury said his mother had lost eight siblings in the last five years, adding that "my mother's a mess right now." Don and Mabel Marbury had five sons and twin daughters.

The Knicks play Wednesday in New Jersey, without a clear solution at point guard if Marbury hasn't returned. Reserve Mardy Collins didn't play Sunday because of a sprained left ankle, and Thomas hasn't used Nate Robinson in either of the last two games.

"We'll continue to remain strong within the team and stay together," Thomas said.

I don't believe it that's how it went down. I believe the family member didn't want Steph to know after his father's situation became a lost cause. Like his father passing away before the game was over and probably at that time the family member chose to keep the news from him until the game was over. What about as his father was being led out now that is when he should have been informed by Knick officials. Why not say who the family member was? Why unindentified? Why was another relative so pissed the following morning going on air against Knick officials? Why is Steph irate with us according to the relative.

What did MSG know and when did they know it?

My condolences to the Marbury family.

The question now for Steph after he deals with this life changing event, will be is he ready to be a man, or will he drift further into obscurity?

Was he contacted to inform that his father has exited MSG due to not feeling well? They didn't have to be Trapper John MD. with the situation just let him know his father's health is of concern.

This is not meant to be callous but I hope Isiah doesn't use Marbury's absence as an excuse for losing.

of course he will as will the few remaining optimists... they used Zach's grieving to excuse away the slow start to the season, they're gonna use Marbury's absence to explain away losing now... there's always a reason to point to to explain away 4 years of ineptitude & bad roster management.

Marbury deserves as much time away from the team as he needs to grieve for his loss, but the team has to go on & play hard regardless... they can't look for any reasons as to why they're playing so poorly & so inconsistently this year... if i'm Isiah i would put a big mirror in front of every locker, including my own, w/a message that reads "accountability starts here".

Well, Marbury is a key loss but then again there are many people here who would gladly waive Marbury so this shouldn't be used as an excuse.

We jut don't know what happened. But I could imagine the father died on the way to the hospital and relatives told MSG to let Steph finish the game, with Marbury being angry regardless, thinking relatives shouldn't decide for him what he should know and when, putting MSG "in a damned if they do, damned if they don't" position.

It simply makes more sense than that MSG withheld pertinent info for obscure reasons. It wouldn't make sense for MSG to lie about it as it's so easily refuted by the family.

I am friends with a number of Steph's relatives. Old and young. There is absolutely NO anger towards the Knicks organization in reguards to this. It's being mumbled by other people (fans). Not the family.....at all. Funeral is Tues. Then I'll know 100% what's good. From what I am told it's a nonissue.

I am sure you can pass along that all fans feel for him despite what we think of the Knicks and his game and more than appreciate the community man that he is regardless of our attacking his game online.

Also, I am wondering if you saw or know of the assertion that a family member phoned WFAN last night and was ripping the Knicks for their handling of the situation and that Steph was saying he was done with the Knicks.

If a family member did indeed say to let Steph play out the game that makes me feel a little relieved in regards to MSG but I still gotta wonder why anyone would make that call...I just don't understand. I have read that Don had been ill for weeks and that his falling ill at the game would have caused great concern. Life is far bigger than basketball I don't feel good knowing Steph was allowed to finish out the game when he could have spent time with his father.

Well, whatcha gunna do I guess. It's a real crappy situation all around.
